  • Is Matisyahu still a Lubavitcher? I read somewhere on the net he was involved with the Breslov movement?

  • Yup. That's what I've heard from friends, some of whom know him. Yea, Breslov!!

  • Which song did he start singing after the Shema?

  • "Shema Yisrael Adonai Elohenu Echad" !

I'm not Jewish... but I do believe in The G-d of Avraham, Yitzhak & Yakov (peace be upon them all). The one who created all that is, the lord of you & I. Lord of all that exists.

If I understand correctly, according to the RamBam & Halakha... I am not a koffr - a disbeliever or one who rejects G-d/faith! --which is interesting.

    say

"He is G-d, One and Only. G-d. the Eternal, Absolute; He begetteth not, nor is He begotten; And there is nothing like Him."

  • You may be Jewish. Research the topic of what makes a person Jewish or not. Key= maternal heritage.

  • SHEMAAAAAAAAAA YISRAEL!!! ADONAI!! ELOHANOOO!! ADONI ECHAD!!! WOOOOOOOOOO SHEMA!

anyway i just had my bar mitzvah today.

  • As I see it, singing Shema has called many Jewish souls to action. It has been good for me in my work as a social worker in a homeless shelter when I daven. If one of our immigrant women hear me, they often ask me if there is a rabbi nearby or a shul. Just a note: I hear others in the crowed singing Shema with him. I am sure this song had been previously reviewed by those that put on the event.

May his art bring many back to Ha'shem, who is now waiting to send Moshiac.

  • Bless you, Ariellejsa. Am Yisrael Chai.

  • Yes u say the shema, and cover your eyes with ur left hand.....

  • did anybody notice he is covering his eyes with his left hand?

  • what does he start singing after the shema?

  • "Barukh sheim k'vod malkhuso l'olam va'ed." This translates as:

"Blessed be the Name of His glorious kingdom for ever and ever." And it is customarily said in a hushed voice after the first part.

After this, he bridges into one of his songs. Oftentimes, he sings Psalms, written by King David. He sings them in English and in Hebrew, together.

  • The Hebrew word you are referring to is not allah. The world is spelled alef-lamed-heh, and there is no dagesh (dot) in the lamed (the L); therefore, you can not transliterate it as Allah. The only way a single letter L in Hebrew can be represented as 2 L's in English, is if there were a dagesh in it. Besides this, the vowels are different than the vowels for the Arabic word Allah. This word for course has the 2 vowels qamaS; Only the "ah" in Allah has a qamaS. This is inconsistency # 2.

  • Ok buddy.

  • waltyah you go =++=

  • Thank you, good bye.

  • notice though how he has his left hand (not his right hand)over his eyes...maybe to make a shinuy?

  • Quite possible! I don't know, though. Hey- you could probably posit the question to his website. I'd be curious to know, myself!

  • Maybe he felt it was ok because there was a Minyan in the crowd. As I mentioned, it was mostly Jews, due to it being a private fundraiser for Chabad (may Hashem Bless them!!)

  • yeah.. he rocked it

  • yah thats becouse he doesn't want to take Hashem's name in vain.

  • It was fascinating to me that he actually said the real Shema... I think it was really something that he was able to work up the right amount of Kavanah on stage to actually feel ok saying it. It was beautiful and I feel honored to have experienced it! We live in very dark times, and I feel that Matisyahu is here to bring forth a large Ohr for all of us.

  • Also- The reason I believe that he felt ok saying the actual "Names" was because this was a Private Chabad Fundraiser concert, and 95% of the guests were Yid!

  • lOOK UP THE WORD vAIN.

  • HOW ELSE COULD YOU PROCLAIM HISNAME TO THE NATIONS? iF YOU DONT USE IT, ONLY IN SECRET.

    vuvh-YOD HEY-YAV HEY 4 LIFE

  • It's not that the Jews are trying to "Hide" the names of Hashem from the other Nations, it's just a matter of one needing to be in the right, spiritual frame of mind when invoking His name out loud. Thus, the Names don't get said aloud much in public, only when a Jew is saying a Bracha (prayer). But if you listen closely, you will hear any religious Jew using the Names whenever eating or drinking anything, whether in public or private.

  • BAM!

  • If you link to this, please credit me: ©2006 Arielle JS Abrams. Thanks!

  • LOL MAYBE WE should credit Matisyahu?

  • In response to Monji112000- I am a photographer, and I deserve credit for having filmed this bit. If you use it, credit ME. YES, the performer deserves credit, but all too often, the documenter does not get acknowledgment for having taken the time and care to record and then disseminate the performer's craft.

  • Recorded on my Samsung 809 camera phone... quality not perfect, whaddya want from me? All I wanted was for the drunk guy next to me to shut up...

  • LOL - It was a nice video, I got the idea. :-)
