When I type in the 192.168.0.1, I get no response, it says no server info. That was with Chrome, so I tried IE, with the same results....I cannot get a password page to enter anything. I also tried to reinstall, and never get past the *looking for router*, but the wifi is working perfectly, just can't secure it.........where to now?

@Chrisjaldin with the current bandwidth speed offered, by most providers, you wont notice, but if you get down to microscopic level, then yes, because each traveling packet will have an extra encryption packet attached to it.

r u talking about the guest login to the router?

if so there should be an option on your router's interface that changes the password for guest.

i am not sure if there is a way to find out if someone else is using the wireless signal, but there is a way to control the radius of where the network reaches.

best thing if you cannot is to reset the modem from a small button somewhere on the router. normally it needs a pin to press it.

you should also either call your routers company to ask them about default logins. or just try to google it.

you simply need to change those into a different user name and different password then the defaults, other wize people can login to your wireless WEB INTERFACE and change the configurations as they want.

So to be clear, there are 2 different passowrds:

1- is to access the wireless network

2-is to access the router interface to edit the router configuration. I think this is the one that confused you.

Hi, you told me to try the advanced security settings. If I type my modem's IP Default Setting in my browser, I see a blank page with the word 'Busy'. No D-link page or anything. I checked my configuration and it show the same adress in standard-gateway. I tried the IP adress from my pc but when I type it in my browser, all I see is a blank page. Or in other words, I see nothing.

First make sure you internet service is still active. The modem that your provider gives you have an internet light that should be on showing active connection.

second, you could reset the router by clicking a very tiny button on the back on the router. You might need a very thin pin to do that. hold the pin down for 5 seconds then unplug the router and the modem from the power for about 5 minutes.

once you power them again. Try coneting then.

is your wireless router connected to the computer via a usb? or you are doing things wirelessly? try it with a usb wire connected and see if that works

so your computer is connected to the wireless modem via that cord?

try the combo : guest / guest123 and some few more possible default passwords.

Not all user names are alike.

any combo of admin/ pass admin/pass123 administrator/password admin/password administrator/pass user/pass

if none is good, just call Dlink hotline. they will ask you for the model and tell you exactly what it is. you might need to reset the router. but try to log in first before doing that.

and make sure that my video is fully loaded and do not close the window so if the internet is not on you can still replay it on youtube.

Hey Richard, I'm having some trouble with my D-Link Router. My internet connection works fine when connected directly to my modem, but when I connect my Ethernet cord to my router, it won't work. On occasion, it'll work, but it's very inconsistent. What might I be able to do to fix this?

make sure your wireless is connected to your modem and that your modem is properly plugged in to internet.

you can do that too! ultimately is a cracker is determined to break your wpa he will push a little harder to get the wpa2 ! This is how i look at it.

try to call the manufacturer and ask them for their defaults. if you are not in the us lookup default passwords for your routers online.

you might also need to reset the modem. then try the defaults. it is a small button on the back of the modem. need a pointy device to press.

just disconnect the power off the router and the modem.

some router will automatically work without disconnecting.

if it does not work, that means you did something wrong. Redo the whole process again.

there is a button on the bottom or the side of the router, you need a pointy device such as a paper clip to press it for 10 seconds. This will reset your browser to factory configurations.

if you still could not find the default password and login, Call dlink dir300 and they will tell you .

sometimes it is not the same. you can get the ip here:

check under the router. if u dont find anything then:

FOR PC:

go to network connections-> right click the wireless network you wish to secure-> status-> details.

it is usually next to: IPv4 Default Gateway.

FOR MAC: click on the wireless icon "Top right"-> open network preference->TCP/IP and it should be next to Router.

or at times it is on the back label of the router

Yes you can setup a secure network for nintendo.

u have to go to configurations and check from there. it will ask you to detect a new network and then ask you for pass.

wpa is a stronger security, do that better.

i have worked with 2 Dlink routers, and i have had an overall good experience. Just some issue with Mac where at times the connection just shuts down and i have to restart. But his might be an issue from Apple's part. I havent tried to resolve it yet.

but with PC it is great.

-Admin can have more privileges then a user. sometimes they are both the same sometimes different.

-Restart your router by unpluging the power waiting 2-5 minutes then pluging it back. wait 2 minutes so it boots.

-Why would anyone invent Virus? plus your neighbor can use internet to access the net, download music and videos illegally and he got monitored then it is you ISP that goes to you not his. Also i can know what info u r transmitting over the net by stealing your Packets.

the internet is never secure. This is the inconvenience of convenience.

- i think D-Link are good routers.

- WEP & WPA are different configs for the same router, you choose any.

- The ip Address you login to is not a website, it is the page configuration for your router only.

-when you set up your router you call it whaat you want, to change the name you log back to ur router's ip and do it from there.
