So the Isle of Man put almost half of its economic eggs in one basket, namely the financial sector, but doesn't seem to care if this sector collapses. What a strange little island!

i think it is you who is lacking in knowledge of the subject, what people are forgetting here is that the UK government and the FSA had frozen millions and millions of pounds of KSF's assets which ultimately led to the banks demise not least triggered it. i think revision of this subject is maybe something you should consider before proceeding to comment on a subject quite obviously out of reach for your intelect.

@iombank Just to point out. Most of the countries in the world dont ensure depositors 100% refund. Usually it's a predecided sum by the government or for example EU. You can't demand a 100% refund, banks are run as private companies. Private companies can go bankrupt, and bankrupt companies don't have money.

Nobody said the ordinary Isle of Man resident owes the depositors. It's your polictical and financial institutions who could be far more pro-active in undoing a wrong and not pursuing other jurisdictions who intefered with depositors on your isle. It was your bank which said there was no risk!

Well done and good advice. Shameful being caught between political entities who are just trying to avoid blame and responsibility rather than showing a leading way in preventing financial ruin for depositors, by shoring up their faith in the banking institutions and countries, by righting wrongs and showing masterful leadership in returning 100% of the deposits and giving people renewed faith in investing within their jurisdictions.

Every other country other than the IOM has paid back depositors in full. We were given 100% gurarantee from the Derbyshire Isle of Man Building Society and then Kaupthing who took over the Derbyshire. These guarantees have proved to be worthless. So many people's lives have been ruined by the actions taken by the UK Government and the IOM whose only interest is for protecting there own reputation.

Those poor unfortunates who are still UK tax payers have not only lost their savings in KSFIoM but are also paying tax into Brown & Darling's pot to help pay back the huge debt caused by the UK Govt. bailout .A bailout which KSFIoM depositors have been so cruelly denied by the Isle of Man Govt. who refuse to ask for help

Look at this video and the nvisit the web site - it is full of TRUE stories about REAL people who have had their money taken from them.

We trusted the bank, the island and the financial institution that is represented there -- we were wrong to do so.
