Whether or not you think it's racist or anti-Semitic is not the point. The people being characterized by those toys probably do. It's easy to say something is not offensive when you aren't the butt of the joke.
AAAAHHHH My childhood just came flooding back to me! XD Omg...I watched this one frequently as a little kid and it feels SO strange to see it again as an adult. As kids we perceive what we watch so differently all I remember focusing on back then was colors, textures, and sounds, not so much storyline or characters. Now it all looks/feels different from before! Incredible.
Santa Claus never seems to get angry...well almost that is. Remember in MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET when Santa Claus got angry at the fake for drinking on duty the Thanskgiving parade? And the scene where he hit the psychiatrist Mr. Sawyer in the head with this cane? And in RUDOLPH THE RED NOSED REINDEER, Santa acted like grouch and was ashamed at Donner for having a red nosed reindeer for a son.
I have to ask----what are you getting at, specifically? Everyone always says stuff like that, but I don't understand what they're talking about. People seem to use the term "political correctness" without really understanding what it means. They seem to have this idea that every great classic that isn't seen as often as it used to be is "censored" for being "politically incorrect," when in reality that usually has nothing to do with it at all.
@Marbles471 "Isn't seen as often as it used to be?" They never show anything like this on the tube ever......I grew up in a time where good cartoons were shown all the time. Now, I see the fucked up shit they have for kids now and shake my head. Anyway, my comment was generally aimed at those mentioning stuff about anti-semistim and so forth. Don't take it so seriously, it's only a YT comment.
I watched this cartoon for the first time in God know how long earlier today. Norwegian TV channels air Disney cartoons at chrismas eve and this was aired when I was a tiny, little kid. I stopped watching after the channels started airing newer cartoons. I wasn't the same thing.
@pytko35:32 that is where the anti-semitically drawn jew is. He is the one with the big nose doing the hebrew dance and coming last, like he scares all other toys into the bag
@pytko3 Well, authors like Marc Elliot and Leonard Mosley wrote in their books Walt Disney: Hollywood's Dark Prince and Disney's World, Disney's anti-Semitism is well documented interviews with members of his staff. I'm just telling you what I read.
@67nairb Most of his employee's, including the nine old men and those that taught the nine old men, say that he was never an anti-semite. They say that his detractors came up with this vicious rumor, because they despised Walt's success and his handling of the employee strike. Walt never felt one way or the other himself, but then again, he was never directly asked.
Mosley's and especially Eliot's book are notorious hatchet jobs. No one takes them seriously.
Disney wasn't exactly a bastion of enlightenment, but he was nothing like the bigot and anti-Semite that the urban legends paint, or that Eliot and Mosley write about. There's no real evidence of that, and in fact there's plenty of counter-evidence.
The biographies by Neal Gabler and Michael Barrier are much more enlightening (although Barrier considers Gabler's book terrible.)
When my mom and I saw this cartoon, she always found the part where the gruff-voiced elf baritone sings "Tomorrow's Christmas day" at the beginning very amusing.
ppl don't realize that the word santa comes from the word satan, just switch the last three letters around. you're worshiping the a guy called nimrod in the bible. yall feed that heathen pagan garbage to your kids & they carry it on. blind as ever, yall deserve to be lost if you continue so celebrate all the pagan holidays, smdh.
I don't remember and I'm proud of it, I prefer the Christmas present, and not live in the past. It's Disney, here's my magic and wonder: coffee at midnight while I'm about to sleep and I'm trying to stay awake at night.
What a truly marvelous cartoon by Disney from 1932!! Simply amazing! Yes, the good old days when people could laugh at themselves and didn't feel the need to analyze everything to determine whether or not they should be offended. We sure owe Walt a debt of gratitude for all that he did to advance and later perfect the art of animation! He created a world of happiness and delight where we could escape to and forget about our troubles for awhile.
I think Santa Clause is the most famous house burglar in history. It's just that either somewhere down the line of word of mouth, someone got the word twisted, or while burglarizing people's houses, he occasionally forgot about the bag from the previous house he brought with him in the current house he was robbing and left it there in the midst of almost getting caught.
@hotelmario510 Let's not forget that the joke at 3:50, while it may not be p.c. by today's standards, is actually a reference to The Jazz Singer, which debuted just a few years before this cartoon. Also, the doll did manage to get a chuckle from Santa and the stamp of approval.
thank you so much!!! ive watched this every year since i was like 3 and our VCR broke so i couldnt watch it on VHS. i was so sad i wasnt gonna see it. Thanks!!
I'm embarressed, it seems i'm the only one that hadn't seen this...oh well. I loved it though, this is the kind of disney show I would watch with my gran when i was little...I think I'll find some where i can buy it. Then I can watch it with my nephew when he come to see me at christmas time.
This is great! What else can I say? Just watched this in bed on my iPAD... Gonna go to sleep now and think about Santa! Even though I'm 55 years old.... Just loved this! Thanks!
Seeing this clip makes me want to hold the door for others, share my driving lane with other cars, give up my seat or parking space for someone else, and say things like "thank you" and "please."
There must be some kind of subliminal message in the clip? Or maybe it's the essence of a bygone era?
I love thats most of the comments are in swedish, we are the only ones nowadays that still watch this every christmas eve. Länge leve "kalle anka" även om det är mer än bara det på julafton men ni vet vad jag menar....
Probably 15 years since I saw this. Some of the images and sounds really came at me - what great nostalgia! The elf painting the chess board really astounded me as a child

Love the bear at 5.24 I remember watching this when I was little I show it to my baby cousin all the time now she loves it and when the doll says mama she said mama that was her first word
Every time I watch anything made by disney I have to see comments about racism. What's wrong with you people? I loved these cartoons when I was a kid and I still do. I am also not a racist. Disney cartoons don't make people racist. Anyone who watched this as a kid had the joy of watching Santa's elves building toys set to Schubert's music. That's what I saw as a child and it's what I see here today. Racially insensitive? Maybe. But as a kid I saw Santa's Workshop. Nothing more. So fuck off.
I dont't know how it works for u guys but in sweden this airs every christmas at 3 o'clock with a bunch of disney clips :) , and I know that the whole show is in english but this is the best tradition at christmas :D, I love this!
@EstherTsivia He really wasn't; he just happened to join a group that was anti-communist/semite. He mostly joined because he interpretted his worker strike to be an act of communism. The group just happened to be against jewish people too.

So fuck off.

libaneskillen1 5 months ago
@libaneskillen1 Yeah, not such a surprise since Disney was a known anti-semite
EstherTsivia 5 months ago
@EstherTsivia He really wasn't; he just happened to join a group that was anti-communist/semite. He mostly joined because he interpretted his worker strike to be an act of communism. The group just happened to be against jewish people too.

Not that the little Asian dolls or pickaninny doll saying "mammy" is great either

@EstherTsivia
Given the hat, beard, dance and accompanying music, definitely a Russian/East European Jew.
I suppose anti-communist/Jewish, two stereotypes for the price of one! :s

Santa = satan
It's an anagram!
Also, the whole thing about him coming through the chimney is very symbolic because it's a fire place (get it).
