I think it is reasonable to assume at this point that your grandmother should no longer be driving after this incident, for her own safety as well as the safety of others. I am sad that this happened but glad that no one was more seriously injured or killed.

Unless there is a vehicle fault, someone needs to challenge her fitness to drive and possibly get her evaluated for dementia. I had to do that with my own mother a few years ago, and the doctor agreed that she was unfit. Painful as that was, it was far better than having her hurt or kill someone.

Well, he KILLED 10 innocent people (and was convicted) and injured more than 70 others at the Santa Monica Farmers Mkt. That driver got to live a long life while he cut short the lives of others...that's so sad, selfish and irresponsible of him and his family.

Why wasn't your mother driving? The young woman, who just had ACL surgery, is a LAFD fireman's wife and the crash tore her MCL again. The man with her is her father-in-law, a retired LACoFD fire captain who has been a rescuer on these accidents caused by poor drivers. Thinking this is a freak accident is delusional.
