These should only be given to people that are terminal. Here's how it goes, company makes very addictive drug and they admitted it years ago that they knew this. I've had vicodin (took for years and didn't get hooked), but i've also had morphine, and i could easily see getting hooked on that because it really does work and makes you very happy too -- and apparently oxycontin is much stronger. I take tramadol now, and would take vicodin again if i had to, but i hope i never have to go to morphine or oxycontin because i think it would be easy for me to get addicted. Of course if the pain is that bad, maybe addiction would be the least of my concerns.

Don't get me wrong, it is absolutely terrible that kids (and adults too, you know) abuse these pills to get high; I am a former heroin addict having gotten started on Oxycontin. You might not be getting high from what ever pain killer off of whatever medication you're taking, but that's from a combination of your medication and body - it has nothing to do with pain

As a migraine sufferer I can tell you that he is mostly right. When i'm in excruciating pain and take an oxy it diminishes the intensity of the pain, but the pain is still FAR greater and greatly overshadows the euphoria oxys create.

I have also sent you a PM explaining the diametric between legitimately using pain sufferers, and those seeking recreational use of the drug.. its just far more then 500 characters :P

@dawntenor, Everybody has issues, some have pain management issues to deal with, other have anxiety or depression to deal with. People continue to use these drugs because they work to alleviate their symptoms, one way or another. We should not judge anyone else. Most people use these drugs because they are trying to survive, again through depression or pain or else. We are here to help all patient regardless of how they began using these drugs. Prescribed by a doctor not not.

The abuse of this drug is becoming a fucking epidemic. Drug addiction treatment for painkillers in the U.S. has gone up 400 percent since 1998. Oxy's are basically one molecule away from heroin. @SpiritofVersaille - I feel most people are too concerned about the stigma attached to Heroin use, and would therefore refrain from using it. The thing about OxyContin and the like is... Most people think it's more sophisticated (I know that sounds funny) or don't attach so much stigma to it, so to use it a few times and that's ok to them. Before they know it, they realize they have a problem and here we all are.

A narcotic analgesic is never legitimately presribed to alleviate 'mental pain' , however they are frequently *abused* for that reason.
