Why not just play an real bass, I can understand if your Jack White. you can raise the octaves with an effect pedal , Its really kinda fun. but to anyone with musical instrument knowlege you just look really annoying putting out a phat groove on a jazz guitar... I love this song and that bass line, but i really want to punch myself in the face now!
@Acrobatjonas it's actually baritone guitar. it's lower than your average guitar, but higher than a bass. and he's playing it because the parts sounds better on it than on a bass.
@Acrobatjonas anyone with musical instrument knowledge knows that an Epiphone Sheraton is not a Jazz guitar. Anyways, I was surprised as to how he was getting that sound, but why do you care about how he looks when he's playing the groove rather than just care about the groove itself.
@firefighter813x they dont have the fender logo because they not Fender. They are Nash guitars... they are made from fender parts but "road worn". Check them out.
This song was originally written by a punkish band called Frodus they're pretty cool too Thrice pwns all but seriously look them up on account of "If Thrice thought they were worth covering they are probably worth listening too."
using an Epiphone Sheraton for a bass? ive seen everything now! ive seen a no neck bass, seen a wahmmy pedal bass, but ive seen everything when i see a epiphone sheraton bass!
@SarcasticSunriseHxC It's cause the energy was all wrapped up in the fact that the album version is so raw and lo-fi. Agreed though, this one isn't as good.
@supersox40 this is not enough to reach this basstone, I'd say it's something like those amplitube / guitar rig thing set to emulate bass. damn sure I'm wrong!
Regardless if he's using an octave pedal or Variax... or if it is a baritone... All I know is that guitar sounds amazing.... could you just imagine the riffs that could be played if you owned it?
I can almost guarantee Ed is using a de-tuned baritone guitar...just...because he felt like it. I think it is in the tuning that "Firebreather" is in. There is no electronic pitch shifting. it's just way down to A.
he plays on the guitar because its easier to play this lick on a guitar than a bass and electronicly transscribes it 1 or 2 octaves down. u can tell by the thickness of his strings that he cant possibly get out such a low tune out of the guitar.
he doesnt play it because its easier on guitar. hes a bass player it would be easier for him if it were on a bass. no the reason he uses guitar is it gives him the sound that he needs for this particular song. he then tunes it down an octave and runs his line into a bass amp. this gives him the loose strings and low notes that suite the song perfectly
hella high to this one.

roydied15 2 years ago 2
maybe ed felt like using a baritone?... lol

@roydied15 I think it's a Baritone Guitar. It has a bigger neck and is tunned lower. It lets you play chords.

@kasinecz no it's not, thats an epiphone sheraton ii its got a 24.75" neck but still sound like a bass to me, and i dont know why... anyone?

hmm for the end of the phrases in the chorus,
I think its something like: 7-8-7-0-x
(if what happens at the end is a mute (x), and I think it is, why is teppei reaching so high up the neck?)
What do yall think? And no one tabbed this right at all, lol capo on the 2nd fret? Never would have guessed that..
OMFGallusernamesgone 2 years ago
i'm trying to figure out how to play this... especially the chorus, no one has it tabbed right
OMFGallusernamesgone 2 years ago
To: theattica and bottomgrooves.
Dustin said he uses Line 6 Variax in his guitars.
Mostly for alternate tunings.
Ed may be using it too.
Regardless if he's using an octave pedal or Variax... or if it is a baritone... All I know is that guitar sounds amazing.... could you just imagine the riffs that could be played if you owned it?
