Traditions are important. And knowing better than tradition has in some quarters become somewhat of an unsound sport.
Landmarks do change: sure the real bay has not been calmer since the shipwreck due to a miracle answering St Paul's prayer? Rivers have stopped flooding churches due to prayers. And once again: landmarks change. Peninsulas turn into islands and so on. So: one bay may be calm then and wild now. viceversa
