Sounds like you havn't had to commute in heavy traffic since 1975 either. All things else being equal, I'll take a vehicle with better braking performance, thank you . It might be said that if everyone left enough distance ahead of them for their old clunker to stop there would not be enough room on the highway for us all.
I have never had a car latter than 1975 and have never had an accident, if you learn to drive defensibly who needs them. Be aware of the driving conditions and of those driving ahead.
Slow down in heavy traffic and keep back from the car in front, talking on the phone while driving is illegal and just straight out dangerous.
