At the local surplus store I have seen a bunch of these LED strips, If l hook up 12v to any of the wires l only get White out of each pixel. Will your controller be able to cause a reaction that will produce colord light on my strips or are the strips color specific?

30 bucks for 3 feet... come on the material costs can't be anywhere near that unless you get a micro controller too with the purchase (doubtful).
