A more appropriate term for this vehicle is "roadable aircraft", but "flying car" is catchier. As for people complaining about it being ugly, the original cars weren't exactly stylish either. It's more important for them to perfect the technology before trying to make it stylish.

It is a plane with wings that can be folded without getting out of "the vehicle" and you can drive home which saves you the cost of hangar space

Plus you can travel and don't need a rent a car.

Plus it fits in most garages.

There will never be "flying cars" like you see in sci-fi movies. You can't just get a standard car and add things to get it to fly, it's impossible.

The correct way to proceed is to start from the design of an airplane (which can already physically move on the ground) and modify it so that it has what is required by LAW to move on the ground.

They've been predicting a great future for flying cars since the '20s. They're neither fish nor fowl and do a mediocre job of driving and flying. Another waste of investors' money. And regarding an aeroplane as an aerial motorcar is a recipe for disaster. Flying, like the sea, is very unforgiving.

True. Until that time I think that one would be taking off at the same place they landed. As a glider pilot, I'm used to taking my wings off after landing. One bolt, two connections to spoilers and one helper and you are grounded. :)

I wouldn't exactly say that... You cant really take a F16 down the highway for a sunday drive, mainly because that aircraft was designed for flying in the air (hence AIRcraft) and you wouldn't be able to steer and stay on the ground. A car on the other hand, is designed specifically to drive on some form of the ground (that's why they never fared too well with people like Evel Kenevil). "Hybrid vehicles" (technical name) were designed to operate normally in multiple situations, like this vehicle

You can't honestly expect them to be doing aerobatics on the first flight out, can you? If the plane has never flown before, it's pretty reckless and unsafe to fly the plane at anything but a few feet off the ground. That way, if something bad were to happen, the crash won't be from hundreds of feet up, and the likelihood of them actually landing safely and saving the prototype is greatly increased.

The wings will limit its land speed to less than road speed. They will force them selves open if the car were to travel faster than its take off speed.

Also the car WILL blow over from cross winds very easily, thus it will never pass road safety reg's.

For the dumbasses below - the point is you can fly/drive point to point. Yes you need a runway to take off but not a lot of people have a runway in their gardens so you drive to a nearby airstrip and there's plenty of them around. You'll get to places far quicker fly/drive.
