Fighting with a fan and jian would be awkward for a number of reasons, among them: incompatible range of action, and interfering with the supporting hand actions in jian. So, they don't really support each other the fan interferes with an important aspect of jian usage. The closest functional combination of asymmetric dual wield I can think of would is whip chain and dao.
I don't suppose you have any footage of Master Fan doing Tan Tui or Baji, do you?
