It takes far more courage to fight to live and win on the right side than to die for the wrong side; many german pilots,sailors and soldiers after the war were horrified to of the evil that their country had done to those they had enslaved and have said had they known of it before the war, they would never have fought against us.

The problem was that this weighed them down so much that climbing to 700,000 feet to intercept the formation took too long. Every minute that they spent in the air made them more vulnerable to Allied fighters.
