I went with the AC motor for the better efficiency, lower maintenance and regenerative braking. The top speed is 65 mph and it does drag on the hills. The acceleration is not the greatest.
The new 20kWh lithium pack gives me a range of about 75 miles with local driving.
I selected the motor and controller 3 years ago -- there are better AC options available today. If you want the best acceleration at a lower price, go DC.
That is easily the most polished presentation I have ever seen of a "back yard" conversion. I'm guessing you have some experience with public speaking to be able to get the message across that well.

This video kept popping up in my recommendations, but I never watched it because Saturns are so repulsive, that was mistake. Great video.

I think the ammeter is wired backwards. Motor running - negative = discharge and positive - regen = charging.
Great work.

@evric2008 Yes, it is backwards on the video. Good catch!

do you use Azuredynamics DCDC 750 converter ?
miniUMM 2 years ago
Thanks miniUMM!
I am not using the Azure DC/DC, I am using the a CC Power C400.

Its better that the one from Azure Dynamics?

> ...better that the one from Azure Dynamics?
I'm sure that the CC Power converter is cheaper than the Azure, but I really have no opinion about which one is better.
