The children were collateral damage (and you can tell she didn't want to murder the children but had no choice by then).

Thats the point. I am also a massive gore/ 80s horror fanatic. But if this scene was made in any other way, no one would take it seriously. This is raw and brutal so it sticks with you for the entire film. Like a rape scene. A lot of people hate them, and thats the point. Show the rawness of whats happening so you learn to hate the villain as much as possible so you can look forward to there demise.

Wow. The new trend of pushing the envelope of realistically showing emotional suffering before the death of the children is just too much. I imagine this might be what it was like for some in the Virginia Tech shooting rampage. As a Horror / Gore fan since the eighties I have to say some things just should not be dramatized so realistically of film. I feel like I have just witnessed some kind of snuff film. No style or music just brutal reality.

you need to see the whole movie to understand. she (the killer) is a traumatized,mentally sick girl who has all reason in the world to kill the parents. and the children who are propably not totally innocent (I don't believe they lived all the years with their parents without noticing anything!) die,because she can only see her toturers when she looks at them. of course its immoral,but I think it would have been unrealistic if she'd let them live. btw:the whole acting in the movie was incredible

The movie is great but the body being blown back is complete crap. The body of a person is mostly soft, a bullett's or shotgun shell's kinetic energy is being absorbed by the body and inertia. Although i can imagine that a shotgun blast has a little force in it that would make you drop backwards from the many shreds hitting you simultaneously - but never ever get blown back this far. It looks cool but it's totally "Hollywood". Like cars exploding when falling down a cliff.
