  • Videos of the two on a drag strip show the Toyota ahead...

  • toyota before the prius came along ruled shame everyone today believes this global warming scam

  • does anyone have footage of the focus t230 / turbo/ rs prototype? was on old top gear and pulling power/ Might of been focus T190.

  • Toyota in it's glory days....

  • i have a 1994 celica st. soon undergoing a gt4 conversion even the small 1.8 ff with a sar intake and cheap exhaust dominates when it comes to the corners.its a sexy car people cant tell its almost a 20 year old car, supra lines with a look all its own.

  • What a good car :)

  • The Ford is 4,500 pounds less... but the Celica still manages to look good after all those years, while the Ford looks old and dusty..

  • why cossie is 20k and celica is 2 ? Celica's last, and parts are common with other models. That makes it easy to repair and maintain. Cossie is a great car, but a dinosaur that's almost extinct.

  • @wakkadakkaify because ford have not produced anything as good since the cosworth............

  • so if the thing that clinched it for the Cossie was that it was 4,5k cheaper, approx. 6 7ths of the Celica price, and now the celica is 1 10th of the price of a cossie, surely that would mean that the celica is the better option by like 10 times...

and oh yes, I own a GT4 (ST185 slim body version to keep the weight down and pushing 240BHP). sensible, sophistcated, sure and yet still fun to drive knowing its not gonna break down when pushed...

  • @Tact52 So why are mr2 turbos so unreliable? Guess they were thrashed too much perhaps? Same engine as Celica?? Had nothing but overheating issues with three mr2 turbo (240bhp) versions. I don't own a cosworth of any form by the way. regards.

  • cossise`s still go for £20,000.....celica`s £2000,nuff said

  • Who's daft enough to pay nearly £30K for a Celica

  • The GT4 is such a lump of pig iron !! Bastards to work on, bankrupting to get any power out of and slow even when you do !! Heavy as hell too !! Escort Cossa is ok, for an Escort on a Sierra floor pan that is !!

  • Psssshhhh I'll take the Toyota over the Ford anyday, even with brand! Unless of course, its something like a Prius or something else stupid. But especially with the GT4, I'll take that in my sleep, whether its more expensive or less comfortable. Besides, the Celica won't fall apart after a few good hard drives, or any driving for the matter.

  • Cool shot-Hercules @ 5:48

  • Theres a video in my channel, where Celica gt4 wrc does some donuts on dry asphalt and 30cm snow. Jussayin' if anyones interested, thanks

  • Ya know, I wouldn't mind a cosworth. Minus the picknic table of course. But a GT4 is also a great pic. Too bad they're crazy rare

  • cosworth all the way

  • That's why I hear everything in Top Gear as if it was a sarcasm show. Choosing a ford over a toyota? It could be a Starlet and I would still rather one to a ford.

After all, FORD means Fix Or Repair Daily.

  • If Clarkson can't fit in it, how come I'm 6'4 and fit in mine easily...

  • @MidshipExpress

JC is taller than you and you must just have a short upper body and long lanky legs ;)

  • Think of all the people who bought the ford back than and thoughs who bought the toyota i would rather live with the toyota today a million times over the ford. I really does look good even in this decade.

  • The Escort Cossie is still a legend to anyone that knows about cars... The GT4...Well that just died out years ago..

  • cossie best car ever made end of

  • Not the best colour and it looks bad without the rear spoiler.

  • I'd take the Cossie.

  • Wow. You get a CD player. Haha how times change

  • The Gt-4 has aged well, the escort looks so old now!

  • @perniciousgreg Not true. Cosworth is still a very appreciated sight.

  • @perniciousgreg Without the wing it isn't too bad, the Gt-4 does look much better though :)

  • @perniciousgreg and whats worth more? had a look on ebay..ive seen some celica 205's advertised for about 5k at the very most..esc.cosworths around 10k, what turns heads more when you see one? cosworth all the way mate.

  • Jeremy is So young here :)

  • Check out used market prices and find out. Ps Escort.

  • Electric sunshine roof lol. Say moon roof.

  • It is no even debatable.. Celica IMO :)

  • clarkson looks so young

  • too bad that now escort cossie still cost 25000 pounds+ while celica gt4 205 around 2000-5000 thats what i call bullshit

  • The stock wheels where dire on the GT4. I think In 1996 it had a facelift and they changed the wheels.. Apart from that I think the GT4 wins hands down.

  • Would you buy Escort for 25,000 pounds?????

  • @tutisk Good examples aren't fetching a lot less than that now... so in terms of depreciation its pretty good!

  • @dragythuno Are you talking about the Ford Escort Cosworth or The Toyota Celica Gt4 or both?

  • both classics

  • quite upset that they didnt just say that celica is the better car.. i had a choice between celica and cosworth, celica still so expensive. cosworth too but couldnt find good nick conditions. went with celica , havent turned back or regretted it. these guys on top gear didnt want to say celica was the better car . if both were priced the same, celica wins. but thats not how it works. so i agree with them in (90's but not when pickin them up used/

  • so 90s

  • What is the name of the song at 4:20?

  • 2:05 - 2:17

Why American Top Gear will never be great, you can't compete with that.

  • love old top gear!

  • Cossie all the way ..

  • lol well they build em to their size! good for little guys a pain in the legs head and arse for us big guys i still love the celica though

  • As I was picking up my fathers Dodge Stratus from the place he was consigning it at after he died, I saw a 1990-93 Celica style GT4 with 165k in not great shape, but not horrible either. My dad was asking 2500$ for his Stratus and I just drove off with it. I regret not asking if they would've taken it as a trade for the Toyota that they didn't know about.

  • haha who else thought he was going to hit the celica with the ford door at the end?

  • wow clarkson young and he is more posh

  • toyota is my favorite

  • I agree, Toyotas' are extremely reliable, my dad had a Toyota for 13 years, never broke down once, the only things that needed replacing was the clutch and the battery, thats it, not bad for 13 years.

  • @Apidium Had my Toyota Celica for 24 years as well, no major problems. Car still runs like a dream. Interior still looking young. Transmission has taken alot of abuse and is still running like nothing is stopping it.

  • @aShoe0o

    Exactly,

I have an 87 and im always asked if I sunk a ton of money into overhauling everything because it still runs like a new car. I do find it funny that the newer one tested felt cramped. I know mine is older but I am a tall guy and mine has massive legroom.

  • omfg jeremy's hair was black

  • 3:46 i just love that scene...

  • WTF is a CD?? haha

  • It's on sale now for 6k pounds! Great car this is.

  • Lol, this EXACT GT-Four is for sale, just saw it on the GT4DC. Anyone who wants a famous car.. there's your chance lol!

  • The 6th gen celicas are among the best looking cars there is

  • Does anyone else wince when Clarkson starts a car and instantly floors it? Or instantly pulls up and turns off an engine, particular a turbo motor? x.x

  • @JossPhaux Heh heh press cars, although we don't always see the whole footage, hes pretty good with cars usually we just don't see that part of the film

  • @JossPhaux hahahah very true i always think that then think to my self im pretty sure they warm them up before they show u him driving it an on turbo cars my they install turbo timers but again a press car knows it going to get the hell beat out of it but when its a car like gumpert appolo or zonda f its just blaspheme to treat them like that.

  • Comparing a Ford to a japanese car... and Clarkson still thinks he can make them look equivalent... looool

GT FOUR is always better than an Cosworth. ALLWAYS!!!

Top Gear is a cool show, but they don´t need to treat viewers like dumbasses. Everyone gets the that Top Gear reviewers always try to make UK cars look better.

  • @hulkfcp12 Sometimes it seems like Clarkson is single handidly trying to prop up the british car industry! but I really do believe the Cosworth is likely a great car!

  • @hulkfcp12 So is that why the escort cosworth is a car made in the 90's but was a WRC winner that costs £15,000 even though it was made in the 90's? Where as the celica costs around 3-4k. It also has a solid engine and a better AWD system than that boring jap crap. And just to finish this go through town in the cosworth then the GT4, see for yourself how much more thumbs up the cosworth would get.

  • @Englandforever91 First of all, WRC (in that time) wasn´t just the car, it was the driver. Because by your logic, a Citroen C4 is better than a Delta, EVO, WRX, GT FOUR, Escort, Quattro... and so on. Second of all GT4 is still a modern car today, as for the escort is completely outdated in every way, compared to the GT4.

To finnish, I have a GT4 and I know what I am saying, do you have a Escort? Today Celica is still pretty and really good car. The Ford got worse with the time. You may disagree..

  • @hulkfcp12 if you actually took time to drive an escort cosworth you would realise you're wrong. Put modern tyres on an escort cosworth and it still handles well in todays standards and drives well too. I'm not saying the celica is a bad car, im just not a fan of japanese cars in general, so i refer to them as 'jap crap'. theres a reason why the the average escort cosworth is 13-15k and the celica is £3,000 remember.

  • @Englandforever91 well, I see we are not going to agree. Comparing these two, I´ll allways prefer the Celica and you´ll allways gonna choose the Cosworth. I am not saying that the Escort ain´t a good car (both are much better than most of today´s cars) but between those two I´ll allways go to the GT4, I have two (st185 and st205) so it is a natural preference. It will all come to taste... you like the Escort, Ilike the Celica. And in my country they both have the same price today (about 16.000€)

  • @hulkfcp12 I actually have a WRX STi Version 2! ST205 parts are so expensive to get in Canada I just couldn't go through with it! honestly sometimes I perfer my old 85 Supra, whatever you drive, as long as you enjoy it and it doesn't break down from poor design who cares!

  • @Kingsoupturbo You guys must have a different Toyota there in America than we do here in Europe.

We don´t care about the price of the Toyota parts because we never need to buy them. They never brake down.

My father had an AE86 for 16 years and it never broke down... Toyotas here are very respected and Toyota her has better reputation than german car makes... I think you guy´s got the bad Toyota and we got the good one.

French cars are the bad ones here in Europe... I hate those cars!

  • @hulkfcp12 Hey! ooooh french cars are notorious! we have fords and chevy's and chrylser here to break down on us :D They never sold the ST205 here in Canada, we greymarket import them from Japan, I am on my 5th Supra and I have a Celsior as well! its the common wear parts on the ST205 that can be pricey, the Figure 8's and lower control arms imported from the UK can break the bank! we just can't get those parts in north america at all! bespoke to the Superstrut on the ST205

  • @Kingsoupturbo well, ok, that´s your opinion. Mine is that a french car isn´t made to survive more than 2 years... after that they become boring cars with no "soul" whatsoever... they feel cheap and even the ones that they call "sport cars" aren´t very good. That´s my opinion. And maybe, Toyota parts are so expensive because they brake down so few times... Here in Europe almost every used japanese sports cars are cheap and very good. Except Supra IV and Skyline R34 (those are good but expensive)

  • i saw a red cosworth the other day!

  • I wish that either one of those cars made it to the States... (and no, the non GT-Four Celica's don't count)

  • why ford never sold this in the states I cannot figure out...ahhhh These would have been a perfect alternative to the subaru and mitsubishi awd over here

  • @KNuss126 Sure would have been! although We didn't get the Evo or WRX until a long time after this car anyways!

  • Hahaha man they all look so Jung

  • Stupid Top Gear they have always been a commercial for Ford!

    Fords are crap!!!

  • @RSTBADBOY

in germany i can still see some celica`s 5th and 6th generation. also some wrx turbo`s, but i havent seen 1 escort cosworth in 15 years in germany, lol!

  • 'Can it be more fun to drive than Garry over there?'

  • an electric sunshine roof.... wtf

  • All that matters is cossie's are king!

  • What the hell is he talking about, i'm 6ft4 and fit in my st205 just fine. Got another 3 or 4 inches of head room too.

  • @joe588 Do the seats adjust down? I'm 6ft and I felt very cramped when I test drove one, I must have had the seat setup wrong!

  • @Kingsoupturbo Yeah the drivers seat does. Mine has two knobs, recline and height. Admittedly I have the seat quite leant quite far back too but it's fine for me. You'll soon get used to it!

  • @RSTBADBOY Yeah you are right, all the fat, middle aged bald blokes who used to drive Cosworths now tend to drive Subaru's as do the chavs. If I had 15k to spend on a rally homologation special it would go on a Lancia Integrale anyday. I like all the homologation rally cars including the cosworth though even though that Escort body Ford grafted on that Sierra floorplan is not a classic. The result is nice in an ugly sort of way. Its a proper lads car and a legend. I prefer the ST205 though!

  • @RSTBADBOY Mate, if I turned up for a date in a cosworth. It had better be with a Chav as the girl in question will have already presumed that I was one lol. Sorry CosserBoy to insult your kind! But he did ask for it!

  • 4:43 Sega Rally Championship music, a tribute to the Celica that was in that game

  • its weird seeing J Clarkson with all his hair

  • I heard the Cossie's insurance premiums drarfed the GT4's. Therefore, at the time, the GT4 would have been the better choice in the long run.

    Nevertheless, I prefer the Escort.

  • See...if we Americans were to get these cars here in the U.S. it would hurt the AAIA. Sure, a lot of us will get aftermarket goodies, but not so much as buying an under achieving car & spend thousands modding it. If you go on ebay or Craigslist you'll notice what I'm talking about. Modded Japanese & European cars, 20k-50k invested and sold for pennies to the dollar, all in the name of trying to achieve the specs that these internationally made cars already come with. We need a revolution America

  • Why didn't these cars ever come to America? Why didn't Ford, our company, sell it here? They gave us Escort??? It shows me how much "cock" the American businessman has given his own people! The international community gets all the toys while we Americans are led to believe by our government & lying companies that "WE" are getting the best in America. We've been kept in a box for so long & now our CEO's & their actions are "awaking us all." Even Brazil, yes Brazil gets these cars!! continued...

  • @pitolove71 But I'm pretty sure that the American Automotive Aftermarket doesn't want US to know that. The American Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA) another company helping automakers "screw" us out getting the best limited production vehicles from automakers. The AAIA has a annual retail sales of $123.5 BILLION with retail sales of $82.4 BILLION ANNUALLY-excluding aftermarket tire sales, 2002 report. Still think that America gets the best? Think again. American Business is screwing us!!!

  • @pitolove71 THe Escort is from Ford Europe, almost entirely seperate from Ford US, you don't deserve these kind of cars anyway, stick to your wallowy sedans and soft slow and ugly pickup trucks

  • @MegaMrDamo Although totally different then the escorts here, I do have a ZX2 escort and its cheaply made and a lot slower then the Cosworth but its light, tight handling, well sprung, and a good 2.0 130hp motor, that and the older 1.8DOHC escort based on the protege was the best we ever got! I've heard the cosworth is a real lightweight drivers car, hence why clarkson likes it so very much!

  • @alex21355 alex, go tickle my moist jingleberries.

  • Finally Audio.. GT4 the legend!

  • i laughed so hard at clarksons hair

  • The ST205 GT4 has aged so much better then the dated Cosworth.

  • @jespurrier If the GT4 aged better why are escort cosworths still worth in excess of ten grand? Ford mad a handbuilt classic, last of a generation.

  • @CosserBoy Thats a really good question! Don't get me wrong. I came across a bit harsh on the Cosworth. I do like the Escos for what it is but in my opinion and its all subjective, I think the GT4 still looks like it could have been made today and has 'grown' into its looks and I think the Cosworth looks retro by comparison.

  • @jespurrier Well the escort cosworth was a handbuilt car and would not have sold in mass production numbers. That coupled with the fact the cosworth was born from homologation and rallying. There is alot of pedigree behind it and a big following for fast fords still. But of course as my name would suggest name I would be Ford biased lol. Tho I have sierra cosworth, tho I preferr the sierra's over the escort. The celica is more futeristic I agree, but I do like retro.

  • @CosserBoy I too have to admit to being biased as a Celica GT4 owner, which could also be described as retro too really. But not as retro as our Volvo 480 turbo....! I just love boost lol. I just tend to shout about the GT4 a bit because it is so underrated car in the UK when it actually has everything going for it. But then again I kind of like the fact that most people don't know what it is. And as you say, you can pick up one for peanuts these days.....but beware the modding bug!

  • @jespurrier True, but the Ford is more fun. But as a Ford man, i always laugh when chavs with baseball caps argue that the Escort is better then the new Focus RS, "because the Focus is FWD piece of poop". No matter what they say, the Focus IS better to drive, AND faster.

  • @jespurrier "dated" cosworth ..lol,also look at the price deprciation of the 2 cars, pointing to the fact the escort is the better car of the 2,but we both have our opinions, thats what makes the world go around :)

  • @gargantuate By 'dated' he is referring to the fact that the body on the cosworth essentially looks like and basically is a mk5 escort hatchback with a body kit on it whereas the Celica was built to be that shape to start with and looked futuristic and controversial at the time but has aged well and still looks fresh to my eyes but it is all subjective! Also the level of depreciation bares no relationship to the quality of the car at all.

  • @SpreeLED Well said!

  • saw this years ago , just wish the dick had lowered the seat in the celica lol

  • Suck it WMG!

  • Celica amazing car. I've the 2.0 aspirated version 170hp. Funnyyyy :DDD

  • thx for the audio:D

  • haha copyright - pwned

  • Niccceee! Audio- ON
