how hard is the transition from ukulele to mandolin?

its a different tuning, so i think you maybe have to make another arrangements.

im guessing as hard as learning completely new instrument. on a ukelele, the strings are more spaced out and the order of the strings dont go in order from highest to lowest, you also have to press down harder on the strings and the chords are completely different. but no worries it just takes some getting used to

Acually iem a guitarist, i bought this mandolin and made this arrangement of the beatifull beatles song,, i still have the mandolin but doesnt really play it, its very hard to play, maybe i should find a better one :-)

What's hard about it? Is the action too high? String spacing too narrow? I fixed one of these problems on each of 2 different mandos I have (As well as body cracks on one).

That does look pretty with that inlay.

its only mandolin i have ever tryed, so i dont have anything to compare with, but i seems i have to press alot, though i think the action is ok, i have 12 stringed guitar witch is very easy to play, but off corse it isnt tunes so high.

On one of mine, the strings are 1/8" or more above the last fret (by the body), which I think is still a little too high, so I should remove a little more height from the bridge. If I go a little too much, then I can use the adjusters to bring it back up. The other mando has no adjustments, so any bridge adjustment has to be more careful (it's over 100 years old), but its action is already a little lower.

We got all the parts right but we let our drummer play mandolin and he messed all it up! Never let your drummer play another instrument, we learned the hard way.

Just saying you didn't mean to sound rude doesn't make what you say not rude. That's like saying "I'm not racist but" ... and then saying something totally racist, or no offence but you're ugly - obviously the pre-qualification "no offence" does not undo the offence caused by the "you're ugly" part of the sentence. Mandolin is also my first instrument and I really like what he's done here - applying uke technique to mandolin. Very musical!
