  • I don't see why people think tapping a 1200 pound animal witha stick hurts them. If if these horses didnt want to race, they could easily tell us on their own. Quality Road's,way sure is effective, hahaha. As for PETA they shoul just quit trying to end horseracing. Oh yea peta has a youtube account. Send this to them!

    HORSE RACING ROCKS!!!!!

  • I love racing also though I don't get to see it much. My uncles 2nd cousin co-owns Mine That Bird... I disagree with the whipping and the young age but you know, it's part of the deal. The horses where I ride don't even start being saddle trained until they are 3 or 4. OMG, last night a tornado went through the area where my stable is!! I hope Ebony ("my" horse) is okay!

  • No. Look why do you think that Ruffian and Barbaro and everybody have broken legs and whatever makes them die... thats because jockeys PUSH their horses so hard in training with whips and hard training to make them able to enjoy their time at the track better cause they can run faster. I love racing until I look at the fact that the horses are forced to run so hard :(

  • @horseandbreyerluver Well I think its the media that tells you that racing is cruel because they're ignorant lol. and Ruffian died because of further injuries of waking up from anesthetics that could have been preventable if it was today. And Barbaro died from laminitis which wasn't really created at the track. and their skin is VERY thick, and many other equine sports use whips so anyone who uses them in my eyes and calls racin cruel are hypocrites. but don't buy the media, they're ignorant.lol

  • @horseandbreyerluver uh? ruffian was never forced, she was only ever whipped ionce in one race, she was never pushed, and no one knows why ruffian broke down!

  • RidingWithRuffian has a good head on her. These horses are being treated better than a lot of people in America!! Horses love to run, and when they win, they feel great. If you've ever seen a race where the jockey falls off, the horse continues running. Why is that? THEY LOVE RACING, TOO!!! Secretariat, for example, wasn't even asked to run in the Preakness (the jockey never used the whip on him). Obviously, he enjoyed racing. Get it right, PETA freaks!

  • i agree with you compleatly horse love to run

  • I agree with this vid!! the horses most times love the racing but still there are 370 horses a year dying from racing but like you said that's nature they could have a fall when they were wild en galopping and falling thats almost the same:)!

  • Yea. I mean its tragic, but its just nature.

and thanks! I love racing too :)

  • There are rules in place in AMERICA now that will get your license revoked if any horse that you owned or trained ends up at a slaughter house which they no longer have in the US>

  • oh wow.

  • All of the major racetracks will ban you from there facilities if it can be shown that you sent a horse to slaughter

  • well.

  • hey.. i am horse crazy horsemanship friek.. k? guess what? im not saying that all horse racing owners trainers and jockeys are horrible.. seabiscuit for example was never pushed too hard.. he was treated with respect. but i just watched a race with a grey pony who was being yanked on the mouth to get in the gate. so. she bucked and kicked and yea they beat the hell outa her.. so you realy shouldnt say that its the best either.. its a freedom of speech sometimes i love it!! but others.. not much!

  • Well I don't know much on pony racing so thats totally different. I watch Thoroughbred racing. And not all thoroughbreds are forced to get in the starting gate. Like a few weeks ago in the Classic, Quality Road did not want to get in the gate, he bucked, kicked, etc. and they did not force him to run. he was scratched from the race. so they do not totally force them to run. I love it.

  • the only bad thing about horse racing is thatthousand and thousand and thousand of pple<3 this sport but lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of pple hate it. pple are against us which i think is sad :(

  • i love racing. other than the part where the horses who dont make it end up in the slaughter houses, even though they are perfectly fine horses.

  • ahh smarty jones! i love him! great video, it's the truth! i hate peta! they protest a wonderful sport like horseracing, meanwhile they're killing thousands of adoptable animals for no reason. my mom has a shirt that says PeTA Kills Animals.

  • You're very, very right. Did you know that the possiblity of a horse falling and hurting itself is dressage is nearly the same as racing? And yet, no one is out to ban dressage, trail riding, barrels, etc.

  • YEAH I LOOOOOVE HORSE RACING ALLL THE WAY!!!!!!!!! ^. ^ I jus don like how after the horse retires so many of them are just slaughtered they don't deserve it after all the racing they've done for us.

  • Yea but unless they're in a foreign field, it would seem less likely for a great champion to be slaughtered.

    Its a great sport regardless.

  • Yeah I agree all the way. I really wanna gallop one of those racehorses

  • THANK YOU FOR UNDER STANDING

someone who under stand i am with you ALL THE WAY!

  • My friend has a ex racer that was retrained because she didn't quite make the cut. she was a broodmare for a year and then sold to my friend for training. she is happy and still runs round like a loony whenever she gets the chance (rider willing or not lol) so I agree with this video! Horses love to run, its what their born to do and in every sport accidents happen and in everyday life accidents happen!! Should we ban everything and be couch potatoes forever? No!! Horses love running and racing!

  • Yea, you make good points! Nice job! I think that all PETA (poorly educated teen activists) has to do is spend a day at the track to agree with you. Fun Fact about peta: THEY PUT DOWN 99.8 percent of their animals. When my dog got euthanized, I was out of it for at least two weeks. Saying they like animals is shameful. The public should start paying attention to all the care horses get when they have life threatening injuries, usuallly not broken legs, though.

  • I know. Peta is such hypocrites..

wow Poorly Educated Teen Activist.. thats great!! XD

  • prech on sister!!!!! luv this video

  • thanks!

    your awesome!

  • I agree!

Fare enough i don't agree with startiong them at like 2 year old.

    But they LOVE to run.

Its sad whe they get put down but acidents happen.

I could be riding my horse through a field and he could step in a rabbit hole and have to be put down from a tendon injurie or whatever.

Does that mean i stable him forever?

He is an ex racer and he still runs, even when i ask him not to haha.

    It isn't cruel.

And as for slautering most are rehomed.

My horse is living proof :)

  • You go girl!

I'm glad you have a horse of living proof!! =D

  • the thing is the owners may be rich but most of them know when a horse has had enough and retire them so its not actually cruel. horses can gallop if they want to...some faster than others but its a sport to do with horses and if you hate racing then you are basicly saying that the kind of riding you dont do is cruel but anything you do isnt. All horses will die eventually...it happens everyone knows that

  • I also don't agree with those rich assholes who sell their horses to slaughter when the horse stops winning, I don't agree with horse slaughter in any way, shape or form, I never have, and I never will.

  • shoot sorry I accidently deleted your other comment, I tried to click reply and clicked remove LOL!!

    Well thats your opinion.

If you want to be a jockey, well, you'll have to whip them and stear them with bits.

(I personally don't think thats cruel lol)

    and slaughter is baddd mann!!

  • I personally agree with racing and wonder how people can't stand to see a horse killed (whatever the curcumstances) who has had exceptional welfare and yet seem all to happy to eat intensively farmed pork (pigs are just as intelligent) which have had a frankly miserable life, please don't be a hypocrite, think it through

  • Thank You! finally someone with some sense!

  • I think its a Fine sport the only thing I don't agree with is the few too rich to care race horse owner in it for the money that sell the horse to slaughter for pet food because it's no longer winning or making them money rather that sending to another home where itwold be loved.

  • well slaughter's bad in general but the sports excellent.

Yea I don't really like those people who send horses to slaughter either! =[

  • Very well done. I agree 100% with you being ready to snap. For people who can barely spell horse, they sure seem to think they kno what goes on in racing. Well done, and keep it up.

  • thank you so much for the support!

    Keep spreading the truth!!! =]

  • shot* sorry

  • excuse me the whips aren't leather thanks i race and mustangs get shout for the hell of it so you no people who slag these lot of really need lives

  • what?

  • i love racing, this video IS the exact truth! when horses fall or breakdown in other sports it called a tragedy, but when horses breakdown in racing its called cruelty, why?

  • Because people are ignorant LOL XD

  • horse racing isnt cruel and i like RidingWithRuffian support it very much so, like she said, dont just judge it by a few deaths each year. such as life, horses fall and die in the wild from galloping just because they'res a jockey on the back of one dosnt mean its cruel.

  • Wild horses - mustangs, brumbies, mongolian wild horses - do not just "fall and die in the wild from galloping." Never. They are very intelligent and agile beings. They fall and die when they are being whipped repeatedly, injected with steroids, and used race after race, thundering at speeds of 43+ miles per hour. Wild horses will occasionally run 20 miles an hour but they have no need to go any faster. Pet horses can live to be 30+ years of age, while race horses live on average just 6 years.

  • Seattle Slew died at the age of 28, Affirmed died at the age of 26, War Admiral died at 25, Whirlaway died at 25, Count fleet was 33, Citation was 35, Secretariat was 19, all those horses are the horses who won the triple crown in the last century, the most grueling set of races in the industry and all went on to race the rest of the year if not another full season. along with breeding....seems alot longer than six years.

  • Do you realise brumbies in the wild are lucky to live to 8 yo? Worms, poor diet, and no hoof care often kill them, quite a painful death really. And there are heaps of horse in our stable racing over 6yo, and havent had an injury in their whole career.

  • The only I can say that's bad about the sport is that the horses are running long distances at 2 years old before they're finished growing.

  • i think the inly bad thing about this sprt is that it is one of the sports thousands of pple love, hundreds of thousands pple hate!

  • What a supurb video, my father trained National Hunt horses for years, and they have the best quality of care. They are not forced to run, they do it because it comes naturaly to them, Dad had one horse who wnet backwards when the tapes went up, so they retired him and he went on to be a fabulous hunter. Hunter...well they gallop and jump but not in a competetive way, but still it's a horses natural desire! Stupid inbreds think they have the evidence to prove it's cruel, & PETA should be banned!

  • Your views are completely un-researched and antiquated. If you actually looked into horse racing properly you would find out how cruel it is. What you have portrayed is a very biased small minded view of something with no real evidence to back it up. I might have sat up and listened if I had seen one shred of intelligence behind this video. You need to wake up to yourself mate.

  • I know more than you probably know. your views are quite humorous due to the fact that you didn't even back up facts in your given statement! But really tell me ONE sport that's not risky?! You need to live and breath the sport to understand it! You musn't judge something until you live it. Racing is far greater than what you think. Have you even went to a race before?

But as for you; What are you, PETA?

  • So cacycat, where is your knowledge coming from? A tv, internet, newspaper? Have you neven touched a racehorse, let alone seen one? In the racing industry, we have no respect or time for 'armchair experts' who think they know everything. In fact, we get REALLY pissed off when we are told we are cruel and heartless, and the horses are abused, and we all do it for the money (so why arent I rich yet?). YOU wake up to yourself, because there is no other place Id rather work, than with racehorses.

  • horse racin is the best lol !

  • They are smart but not as smart as a mule or donkey. They will run themselves to death or to injury. A mule or donkey will stop when they get tried and a horse will not.

  • Most of the horses are worth million and sometimes billions of dollars. Horses are not as smart as donkeys and are prone to run to death. They do not beat them and the riding whip does not really hurt them.

  • You're totally right! Horse racing isn't harmful to the horse, and if the horse does have some type of injury, they usually aren't allowed to race. If PETA wants to protest animal abuse they should reallly refocus onto dog and rooster fighting. That's the really animal abuse! anyway thanks for the AWESOME vid!!!

  • Thats right! Thanks ;)

  • i agree i think people that say its crule should get to no the sport better i have gt 3 and if they have an injury they come off work :)

  • I tottaly agree! The horses run because they were bred for it, if they kept thouroughbred with a heart for running as a stable riding horse that would be very interesting to watch till i have to clmb up on her. PETA doesn't know a thing about horses other then they are animals.

  • I agree with you 100% but there are some owners of those horses who just want the money and will do anything for it. Like give the horse steroids and some shove alkaseltzer(excuse the spelling) up some horses nose.

  • Yes but not all owners are like that (thank goodness).

And in my opinion, shoving that stuff up horses noses is horse abuse! Horse abuse and horse racing aren't on the same page thank goodness!!

And steroids are probably gonna be illegal soon enough though... I hope.

  • i also heard that Big Brown was given a monthly dosage of steriods. but it's not proving anything bad about horseracing, it just shows that some people are morons!

  • Yea but his trainer stated that he gave Big Brown steroids because it helped his eating habits... I REALLY don't believe that though. He just gives excuse after excuse. He's not a trust worthy man... ANYWAYS (sorry for interruption) it just shows that people want to improve the racing ability of the horses, which really is unnecessary because its natural for the horse to run greatly anyway! Yes, they are crazy!!

  • that is so true!! :P

  • Actually i read an article by a vet, saying that was partly the reason he gets a dosage of steriods. Not as much as they were giving him, but a very small dosage.

  • cool! was it from the Lexington Herold?

  • I think so.... I'm not really sure.

  • i totally agree 100%! i love horseracing to death! without it, i wouldn't have heard about the many famous horses who made history by running on a track! Seabiscuit gave hope to those who had none during the great depression and Ruffian gave women courage to stand up to men who see them as a weaker sex. whoever said that racehorses are forced to run to death seriously don't know the nature of the horse!

  • Exactly correct! I know PETA and other crazy people need to learn more about the nature of horses before they judge the sport! And yea the great champions like Ruffian and Seabiscuit gave us all hope.... why don't people realize that?

Thanks for the gracious comment :)
