I wonder if you recorded playing the version available online in shock wave flash format. I have this version and the difficulty level seems to be set to HIGH. I'm thinking that maybe there is a parameter fed to the xevious.swf file that controls this, defaulting to HIGH if not provided. Any clues?

mate you missed the free man. Bomb along the centre of the first main river and a flag comes up which gives you a free man when you run over it. It is randomly placed down the middle of the river so you have to start at one side and bomb hard out dragging to the other side. There are others too
