@madmanatsea only the non flushing time released niacin in large doses over a period of time can possibly hurt the liver. Anything in too much excess can be harmful. Even water, it can wash all the sodium and calcium out of your cells and bam you're dead.
NIACIN raises HDL better than it lowers ldl, and this is great because just 2% of heart attacks happen to those with high HDL. The only drawback with NIACIN is that I have found over the past 3 or more years of taking it is that YOU HAVE TO WALK OR RISK COMING DOWN WITH DIABETES. And this is no joke and can be confirmed like I did by buying one of those glucose meters and pricking myself no less than 30 times one day to see what happens to my blood before and after niacin, etc
I'm 52, have eaten fast food all my life, had a fasting triglyceride level of 427, cholesterol of 325. I've been taking 2,000mg of niacin for about 4 months, along with 3 fish oil caps and 1 daily 81mg ASA. I went for a calcium cardiac scan yesterday and 3 of 4 arteries were completely plaque free. The remaining artery had a score of 25.3. I couldn't believe my numbers were so low. Anything less than 100 is considered minimal plaque. I'm sticking with the niacin. I don't even flush anymore.
YOU BETTER GET A TREADMILL OR DO CIRCLES AROUND YOUR CAR AT LEAST 30 MINUTES A DAY! If you don't walk and walk while on NIACIN, I GUARANTEE you will come down with diabetes........Buy a blood glucose monitor and needles from walmart or some other place AND TEST BLOOD sugar before Niacin, then when you feel warm or a little red after taking it. You will see it go from near 110 to above 160 in minutes after injesting say 500mg of Niacin, and this is WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW!

It is a vitamin, but in high doses I consider it a drug because I know it can mess with my liver......and I have more supplements in my house than walmart so I believe in nutrition more than drugs. I have used supplements and garlic to get rid of my Proctitis. Go to wikipedia and look at HUMIRA molecule to see all the SULFUR, and Garlic is SULFUR so it is great for the GI tract. I Would bet MSM-Mesthylsulfonylmethane-is probably better for DIVERTICULITIS or proctitis!
i love the flushing, its strange but u get addicted to the flushing it hurts but feels good at the same time. ive had great results with lab work proving it.
