I've had two friends buy used 2008 model year versions for under $20k. That compares really well to a Camry, I think.
Plenty of "Total Cost of Ownership" calculators out there. 10 gallons of gas every 500 miles. The 2010/2011 models only need oil changes every 10k miles.
@jwhitehv Camry is much larger, I would compare Prius to Corolla (i know they say prius is mid sized but in reality its not), corolla brand new is under 13k, an 08 corolla should be ~$8k. through research and tons of math, i've found that the break even point for prius vs corolla would be 8-12 years, depending on driving style, habits, etc. and toyota is not discounting prius like they are corolla. not to say i would never buy prius, rather i love being cheap, lol.
@RJL1981 I think if you look at cabin space figures, the Prius is just a little smaller than the Camry and larger than the Corolla. There's more than double the cargo space in the 2011 models (Prius vs. Corolla) for example.
Just wondering why you bought a Prius. I'm looking to buy a new, or newer vehicle within the next year or two. >40mpg is a must these days with gas being $3.50 a gallon and climbing, but hybrids are still too expensive to justify buying (for me). thanks
Yes it is more pricey. I just bought a 2011, got 74mpg on my first tank. My father has a 2002 civic lx and he hypermiles up too 52 mpg but normally 40. It's all how you drive. Only thing is that the prius one of VERY few hybrids that will pay off in the end and offset the initial cost of ownership. that and may prius are already over 300k miles and still going.
Buy what you like, drive with fuel in mind and you can't go wrong.
The Prius is the future and it looks good

@jwhitehv Incorrect. 2011 Prius front/rear headroom 38.6/37.6 Shoulder room 54.9/53.1 Hip 52.7/51.2 Legroom 42.5/36... compared to 2011 Corolla - headroom 38.8/37.2 shoulder 54.8/54.7 hip 53.0/43.9 Leg 41.7/36.3
2011 Camry has similar headroom but 57.8/56.9 shoulder room, 54.6/53.9 hip, 38.3 rear leg room.
