I don't agree with you, Chris, about having computers in kids' rooms. I've had my own computer in my room since I was about 4 or 5. I have not been damaged at all by it. I think it teaches responsibility. I believe that a certain amount of risk is necessary to teach kids to be responsible. Kids will never learn to be responsible on their own unless you stop looking over their shoulder. To cite George Orwell's ideas in 1984, Big Brother doesn't help the life of anyone, just fosters paranoia.
The only time a webcam is evil is when it shows a crime, or pornography. Specifically things like "THE NICHOLAS BERG BEHEADING" which i have watched only once, only out of respect for the family. Which was horrific. However, bringing families and friends a way to communicate through the internet it is a great tool.
And people, Oprah is smart, it was an idiotic reporter that said this, and Oprah can't really say anything about it because she would lose ratings and because it would make it look like the company's decision to put the reporter on the air was a bad one, and therefore cause her show to lose credibility.

I don't agree with you, Chris, about having computers in kids' rooms. I've had my own computer in my room since I was about 4 or 5. I have not been damaged at all by it. I think it teaches responsibility. I believe that a certain amount of risk is necessary to teach kids to be responsible. Kids will never learn to be responsible on their own unless you stop looking over their shoulder. To cite George Orwell's ideas in 1984, Big Brother doesn't help the life of anyone, just fosters paranoia.

The only time a webcam is evil is when it shows a crime, or pornography. Specifically things like "THE NICHOLAS BERG BEHEADING" which i have watched only once, only out of respect for the family. Which was horrific. However, bringing families and friends a way to communicate through the internet it is a great tool.

I'm only 14 years old, I completely understand the internet far more then my mom does, and I'm not saying that I'm more mature then anybody, but I know many kids my age that make smarter and more mature decisions then any other adult I've ever met- some kids aren't able to ever have a childhood Chris.
Anyway, I'm allowed to keep my computer in my bedroom- but I have something that parents should teach their kids to have- [not that [x] is bad] but that they need to use common sense.
