Have you considered drilling holes straight down into the centers of your 4x4 corner posts so that you can install hoops to make a small greenhouse? I figured it might be a good way to use that sturdy spot, unless your screws are in the way.
NICE! I realize that not everyone has chickens... BUT, if you do, or have a friend who does... you can put a chicken tractor over or near your garden plot and allow the chickens to scratch up the soil, they remove all greenery and fertilize the soil. When they have everything worked over, you can then move them to another location and begin your final garden prep and planting. Chicken tractors are even being used in cities like Boston! Check out Garden Girl TV for an example.
Yes please more video's this year. I have a allotment in Liverpool, which i will be recording and posting on youtube next summer. KeepItUp and many thanks from BrainFrazzler.
Just bought large piece of land off local council at the bottom of my garden. Purpose to grow my own veg n' fruit. Found out my garden is London Clay and its really compacted. Going the raised bed route to save time and I think they look a lot more pleasing to the eye. Thanks for taking the time to put video onto Youtube. Like the idea of leaving the raised posts in the corners, no one else used this idea!!
The cedar looks great and good idea to have the four higher corner bits.Genius! why didnt I think of that! I found about twentynew untreated pine slats from a timber fence and put them togeather for raised beds. They have lasted two seasons and when they fall to bits one day I will def. use the cedar.Greetings from Melbourne Australia
@azsuter It gives me something I can screw to when I want to make the beds higher adding more stability if you would like to lean, put a foot on the side or even sit on it.
Thanks for asking, commenting and watching the video
Hi thanks for posting. I was wondering if you used any piping or anything thing for irrigation/drainage? Some of the videos I've watched bury interconnected hosing. Is it necessary? Success? Thanks!
Nice video. I was wondering about the black plastic you have on the bottom. Is that plastic? Do you think the plastic might be bad for the soil since we're trying to do organic. I'm trying to figure out something else to use to stop the weeds b/c I can't do it via shovel.
@powerinthepictures The best thing that I have found to control weeds is; 1- use a soilless mix much like a potting soil. There are no weed seed in this type of mix. 2.- have your soil depth some where around 11" and there is no need too use a fabric or plastic weed cloth. With soil depth at 11" nothing will grow through it. check out my video on soilles mix. Best of Gardeing to Ya!

building 2 of these according to your design over this week-end. I would like to keep the 4x4 super high and maybe try to put 2 rows of planks one above the ovther to have higher beds. Will screw the second row in for real if it feels sturdy enough when I assemble it, otherwise will go with just one row. Can't wait to do it!

I think next year I will be raising the sides on at least one of the two smaller beds to get more depth in the case I would like to grow any root veggies.
What were the measurements of the 2x4 post? How tall were they?

Could you extend the corner posts so that a canopy can be attached?

do you have to level the box? I built a box and it leans inward :\

@DejectedDonkey Sorry for the delay in responding.
The sides of the box will be square if you build like I did and nothing should lean in.

Ever had any problems using cedar? I heard after a while it leaks a poisonous oil into the soil and kills your crops. Any truth to that?

@badboyorganics Hey Devin!
building 2 of these according to your design over this week-end. I would like to keep the 4x4 super high and maybe try to put 2 rows of planks one above the ovther to have higher beds. Will screw the second row in for real if it feels sturdy enough when I assemble it, otherwise will go with just one row. Can't wait to do it!
