.. I heard about a company starting to develop diesel-electric hybrid tech for Semis. That would be huge for emissions reduction. If something that gets 6-7mpg could get 10-12mpg, the fuel saves daily would be monumental. Trains have been using diesel-electric hybrid systems for decades and they are the most efficient movers of cargo. (480mpg per ton) Why not adapt it for semis? :)

Diesels get better fuel economy than gasoline per ton of cargo being transported. When you tune diesels properly they can be more efficient still. (700hp pickup gets 50mpg!) Diesel is easier to make from crude oil.(costs 30% of what it costs to make gasoline...most of the price is taxes) And it produces smaller amounts of harmful chemicals in the exhaust per HP than gasoline.(especially the clean diesels)

If you are using data that counts in oil that is mixed in with dirt/sand(such as the Alberta oil sands in Canada) then your stat is flawed because it takes much more energy to seperate the sand/dirt from the oil then it does to simply pump it out of the ground. Therefore the actual gained energy is much less. However I do agree with your argument about Diesel vs. Gas. Please send me a link of a 50 mpg, 700hp pickup though. seriously.

@xXairsoftsnipaXx Actually Cummins have very low HP stock, actually the lowest of the three. Duramax has the most then Powerjoke, then Cummins. Cummins is just A LOT more torquey and they run really really rich. Why do you think Cummins smoke so much stock? Duramax and Powerjoke barely even spit stock. I know that Cummins have lowest stock because when my Dmax was stock, me, a Cummins, and Powerjoke all dynoed and mine had the most...completely stock. Just doesn't take a lot to mod a Cummins.
@thecrazywrestler Maybe you haven't noticed but the powerstroke offers more hp AND more tq along with better gas mileage. Honestly all 3 are great trucks, they can all make tons of power with very simply mods.
The new powerstroke has set the standard for gas mileage though, 800 lbs of tq from the factory and 26 mpg for a 4 door 4x4. Hell i'm happy to get that out of my sports car with half the weight and half the torque
@cozzey05 Have you seen the results of Diesel Power Magazines test on all three? The LML Duramax was waiting for 2 minutes on the top of a climb pulling a trailer...waiting for the 2011 Powerstroke. And also going down the hill the Duramax had to hit the braked twice because of the awesome exhaust brake system and the Powerstroke's brakes were extremely hot I don't know the exact temp but they proved the Duramax is an all out better truck.

@SOUTHWESTWISCONSIN Who cares about MPG seriously? I drive my badass Dmax around however I want while still getting 20 MPG in an LLY (04.5). I personally have not driven either of the 3 2011 trucks but EVERY SINGLE thing I have read says that the LML or 2011 Dmax is the quickest/fastest truck. The powerstroke might look like a monster on paper...but they sure can't put the power to the ground and the tests prove it. To make matters worse, an ex-Ford Engineer drove the ford in the tests.

About the LMM Dmax...everybody gets a lemon (ie. the ford 6.leaker) and also there are some bad Cummins out there. Interior is just opinion and so is ride...but rwhp/torque aren't and that's where it counts.

@GodprefersDiesels Ya I have an EGR in mine. Exhaust Gas Recirculation. It costed maybe $15 to disable it and its effects. EGR blocker plate and rerouted the PCV. Same deal can be done to the LBZ gen. When you get to the LMM and LML gens then you're screwed with the DPF and such. Go to dieselplace . com, you will learn everything you need to know over there...great website! Goodluck on the puller! Mine is in the process of being built also!

@skizzler1 ... there is no less than 500 years of oil at current growth rates.
Diesels get better fuel economy than gasoline per ton of cargo being transported. When you tune diesels properly they can be more efficient still. (700hp pickup gets 50mpg!) Diesel is easier to make from crude oil.(costs 30% of what it costs to make gasoline...most of the price is taxes) And it produces smaller amounts of harmful chemicals in the exhaust per HP than gasoline.(especially the clean diesels)

@bearincamo Please site your source for the 500 year thing. If you are using data that counts in oil that is mixed in with dirt/sand(such as the Alberta oil sands in Canada) then your stat is flawed because it takes much more energy to seperate the sand/dirt from the oil then it does to simply pump it out of the ground. Therefore the actual gained energy is much less. However I do agree with your argument about Diesel vs. Gas. Please send me a link of a 50 mpg, 700hp pickup though. seriously.

@skizzler1 .. Also note: the 2008 and newer diesels pickups are in the "Low emissions vehicle" class. Just look in the door panel of one. Why? How? Because of the properties of diesel. Try getting educated before barking at those who understand what the future SHOULD BE. In Europe a diesel Jetta gets 70+mpg. In the USA a Diesel Jetta gets only 50mpg...because morons like you are writing the rules! Europe thinks our way of measuring exhaust is stupid because the cars get less MPG = WASTEFUL

@xXairsoftsnipaXx Actually Cummins have very low HP stock, actually the lowest of the three. Duramax has the most then Powerjoke, then Cummins. Cummins is just A LOT more torquey and they run really really rich. Why do you think Cummins smoke so much stock? Duramax and Powerjoke barely even spit stock. I know that Cummins have lowest stock because when my Dmax was stock, me, a Cummins, and Powerjoke all dynoed and mine had the most...completely stock. Just doesn't take a lot to mod a Cummins.

@thecrazywrestler Maybe you haven't noticed but the powerstroke offers more hp AND more tq along with better gas mileage. Honestly all 3 are great trucks, they can all make tons of power with very simply mods.
The new powerstroke has set the standard for gas mileage though, 800 lbs of tq from the factory and 26 mpg for a 4 door 4x4. Hell i'm happy to get that out of my sports car with half the weight and half the torque

@cozzey05 Have you seen the results of Diesel Power Magazines test on all three? The LML Duramax was waiting for 2 minutes on the top of a climb pulling a trailer...waiting for the 2011 Powerstroke. And also going down the hill the Duramax had to hit the braked twice because of the awesome exhaust brake system and the Powerstroke's brakes were extremely hot I don't know the exact temp but they proved the Duramax is an all out better truck.

@SOUTHWESTWISCONSIN Who cares about MPG seriously? I drive my badass Dmax around however I want while still getting 20 MPG in an LLY (04.5). I personally have not driven either of the 3 2011 trucks but EVERY SINGLE thing I have read says that the LML or 2011 Dmax is the quickest/fastest truck. The powerstroke might look like a monster on paper...but they sure can't put the power to the ground and the tests prove it. To make matters worse, an ex-Ford Engineer drove the ford in the tests.

they seem ballzy free rolling, put a trailer on them and there not near as responsive as the other 2 i would take an 06 dmax over the 2011s the interior is nice but the gauges are styled shitty the radio and interior controls are also styled shitty, the 2010 duramax happens to be one of our work trucks and its been in the shop 5 times in the 5 1/2 months we have had it.

About the LMM Dmax...everybody gets a lemon (ie. the ford 6.leaker) and also there are some bad Cummins out there. My buddy had to sell his just this week because his truck was in the shop EVERY SINGLE day with a new problem (trans, transfer case, heads, etc.). My LLY Dmax is problem free. Interior is just opinion and so is ride...but rwhp/torque aren't and that's where it counts.

@GodprefersDiesels Ya I have an EGR in mine. Exhaust Gas Recirculation. It costed maybe $15 to disable it and its effects. EGR blocker plate and rerouted the PCV. Same deal can be done to the LBZ gen. When you get to the LMM and LML gens then you're screwed with the DPF and such. Go to dieselplace . com, you will learn everything you need to know over there...great website! Goodluck on the puller! Mine is in the process of being built also!

Ford is always at least 4 years behind with their engines, trust me I own Fords from the 80s to 2008, Dodge has always had more torque and HP numbers for at least 4 years than Ford decides to catch up, the new HEMI 5.7 will have 450 HP and the new Cummins will have over 700 lbs of torque. I have a dodge work van on a 3/4 ton frame, same tranny that they put into their trucks. its slipping with almost 90k miles on it. their frames/chassis etc are good in some peoples minds but are nowhere near the level of fords or chevy's(minus their IFS). I honestly cant say who has more power, i'll have to look it up, but the differences are very small... its all about what truck lasts longer

Honestly, my tahoe would most likely pull your cummins all over the parking lot stock. tahoes have a huge weight advantage, and dodge happens to make the lightest pickups. and thats stock. and by the way, ive towed of my buddy in his cummins a few times with my tahoe... don't talk shit when you have no idea what your talking about

actually tahoes weigh a shitload more than 5000 buddy. torque/hp makes such a little difference in tow offs its not even funny. its all about traction/weight. a tahoe can easily spin all four and thats all you need. you have no idea what your talking about. and no thanks, im all set with buying a duramax, only diesels ill ever own is a powerstroke or a cummins.

@Pbtbreakingpoint. Ok bud, just to check i went online ur tahoe (if speced right out ex:auto trans, and 8.1 litre v8). Weighs 5265, unless u got a 2010 model the biggest one weights 5550. So next time u got something to say do ur research first. And u are right hp/torque are after weight. And ur tahoe doent have weight unless u can jam 3500 pounds worth of shit in there. And then we'll see. But on actual towing (Not huckin eachother, A trailer) No gasoline engine on earth can beat a cummins

holy hell your are one simple minded kid. all of that weight is in the front of your truck, the rear end has no weight at all and does jack shit for you when having a tow off, a suv has much more weigh on the rear end and like I said before gives your more traction which will win a tow off. you dont need a lot of power at all to tow, pretty much any engines in a suv/truck have enough power to spin all four.

it sure as hell does. in a suv all four tires have potential compared to a trucks since the rear wheels do very little. the only way a truck has the advantage is if its lifted rather high and that picks up the rear end of the suv and lowers its own.

it makes plenty of sense, a pickup has no weight in the rear end, those tires are not going to grip jack shit. a suv has weight spread out across all 4 tires and gets more traction. simple right?
