Jerry Lewis' appeal always mystified me. His movies were horrible, he couldn't sing very well and he wasn't funny. He was also supposedly a real prick, but people loved him.
@46spoony I'm not saying you're wrong because I use to be mystified as well. It's because we have so much comedy to compare him to today. But back then, there was very very little to compare him to. Notice in the 70's when a lot of comedies took off, he wasn't among them (because he was surpassed).
Loved the bit with Jerry being 'chased' by the rolling stone (especially the cut-out where Jerry crashed through the studio wall).......but how did they pull off the part out on the snowy street with the boulder following after him. Pretty good 'effect' for a show with (almost) no budget.....
I wonder how they laid in the "boulder" chasing Jerry? this was before CGI and it looked like he was really running down the street there in toronto so maybe it was an actual paper mache "rock" and guys off screen kept pushing it?
"...but to the trends of the ... thing. And that's jusr marvelous." AMAZING...lol...out loud belly laughs - I think only since SCTV, News Radio, and Arrested Development have produced such comedic genius with incredible pace (with Monty Python preceding them of course)
awesome!.
~4 SCTV fans here, i just uploaded the full 2 hour youtube.com/watch?v=rS1nNIyJIt4 Disc 5, Vol.1 of DVD 4 every1 2 enjoy-also has 1999 cast reunion & Q&A mod'd by Conan O'Brien @ end + plz rate and comment
What's so cool about this great satirical comedy is that it was produced way up on the northern tundra of Canada. It was hip and sharp and perceptive, yet it was bitter cold! Look at all the snow on the ground as Jerry is being chased by a "rolling stone" through suburbia. . Brrrrrr!
I wanna hear "Only a Hobo"...I've never seen this bit, and I thought I'd seen all of the SCTV eps! SCTV was THE show in the '80s--I taped most of them, but alas, they are gone. Thanks for posting this, thank you, thank you, thank you!!
Is this album on iTunes?

It's strange that the unfunny and talentless Lewis is hysterical as parody.
