  • Scots live all over the world , for many reasons. They love their country and culture as much as any living in Scotland. Recently i met a Glasgow man in Australia were i live , he implied I was a lesser Scot and to be a real Scot you needed to live in Glasgow! So I decided to speak his language and decked him!

  • My family is from Scotland...both South and North.

I was in Pleasanton, CA the day they filmed this. It was overwhelming. Even though it's open air, we were in the stands and were just awe struck. When they played

Amazing Grace, there wasn't a dry eye in the place.

  • I don't know why people dislike the bagpipes, they actually make me feel honored in a way due to my family's heritage. Got to love marching on Remembrance day full uniform with kilt to the bagpipes.

North Highlanders 1st Reserve Regiment, Canadian Forces.

  • Why is the camara so low? Upskirts video? =O

  • @rwongusa A cinematic techniquie. The lower the camera the more powerful the subject looks.

  • Much love from a Scotsman living in America to my blood-brothers! If theres one place I'd live itd be scotland.

  • This is so baller :D If only I could witness such a march in person.

  • this is deffinatly one thing i want to learn how to do before i die

  • @DMZtrooper LOL! You'd better start now. I've been at it for over 40 years and the perfecting never stops. Seriously, if you work at it diligently, you can be playing with a band inside of 8 months. Our grade 5 band started competing 5 months after most of them began learning. BTW- that's me starting at 1:28 - The big dumb-looking one with the mostly gray tartan kilt (Holyrood), black sporran, white shirt, sunglasses, and being followed by a lady wearing the same tartan.

  • is proud to carry the name Wood.

  • A wonderful spectacle. It cheers the heart and lifts the spirits.

  • My respect goes out to Scotland, for what you fought for, and what u believe in. Also to all that we have lost in the persuit of freedom, we shall never forget. This song is a tribute to all that have fallen when asked by their country

  • #WOW Why do they only work out their left arms with half a bar bell?

  • I live in America and in the middle of the woods. but i bet if i saw that walking by my house id have a big smile on my face and id enjoy every bit of it. an excellent display to say the least.

  • What would you do if you woke up to this walking by your house?

  • they probally dnt even know what clans tartans theyre wearing

but all in all not bad

  • @venom462

not true. you have to petition and join before you can wear their tartans.

now, that doesnt mean that someone can just walk in with it on, but still...

  • I'm Italian and this' ... fantastic!

  • Well, now, I was liking this from the time I first found it, but I just spotted something unacceptable: sunglasses. Yes, why are so many wearing sun glasses? Did the original Scots, marching back and forth in their bogs, playing the hell out of their pipes. wear sunglasses? WHY have their eyes gone so bad, so quickly? Did they watch too much porn or what? What's up with that? You original Scots need to have a big Scot meeting and get to the bottom of this, because it's unacceptable! Got it? :)

  • @TheMrBlinx Aye well move with the times and the pipe quality is fantastic these guys are exceptional not a bum note too be had

  • I will never tire of watching the likes of this video; and I am only a half-blooded colonial-born Scot! The world would likely be a better place is everyone had "a wee bit O' Scot in them"... :)

  • 500 men without underwears.. :D

  • Why are they all wearing dresses?

  • @happykillmore88 its called a kilt its a scottish tradition i live in england but i sometimes visit scotland because its got a nice countryside

  • Ooop! The 57th guy in the center row isn't really playing!

  • soooo many kilt.I love it.

  • you dont get USA games coz you have no culture....or class

  • Ah, it thrills the heart of any Scotsman! Thanks, Paul, for posting this.

  • Thats a lot of pipers!!!

  • @0087McKay And someone's got to pay them!

  • It's in my blood, in my vains. The sound of pipes and drums. One of the true forces of nature. Thanks for posting.

  • no coment ROMANIA

  • Incase anyone is interested this is Scotland the Brave they are playing.

  • and na awa bide awa

  • I'm not a Scott, I am Ukrainian. But, I love the skirlling of the pipes. Can you explain that?? =Stefan=

  • @chengloki I'm with you I'm from Argentina and I'm OK but ...hypothetically...if it was possible to be born again, I'd like to be Scottish (for the bagpipes, the landscape, many things)

  • Awesome!!! Makes me so proud to be a Scot!

  • Very nice. Am originally from New Zealand (now in Los Angeles) and miss the annual competitions at Western Springs Stadium, Auckland. I'm not of Scottish descent...I'm Samoan but love Scot pipe band music.

  • i think its great well done usa from wick caithness

  • I Love the Bagpipes Music

  • Actually I'm ulster scot, and i gotta say I,m rather proud that Americans would honour their ancestors in this way. It's more effort than some scots or Irish would put into their heritage.

  • "Annual Scottish Games in Pleasanton California."

Am i the only one who thinks thats a bit .... strange? You dont see people in Scotland having " Annual USA Games " :p

  • Yes you are the only one. Strange comment. Let us know what your point is once you have had a chance to travel.

  • Ive travelled loads. Anyway i didnt say it was BAD, I said it was strange :p No need to get all defensive.

  • @mc2cal @dawatticus its yanks who like to think there scottish just cos there great aunt jemimas cousins sisters dog was from scotland! just like people from america are always "Irish"

  • @mc2cal

whats the name of the music, title I mean, great goosebubbles

  • @GerritJS 1st part was Scotland the Brave but then it went into something else.

  • @mc2cal

US is pretty much a large percent European so why wouldn't it? it isnt the other way around.

  • Because the US has many, many people of Scottish descent who brought the games with them and like to gather and celebrate their Scottish heritage. We continue to have many Scottish people imigrating here every year. Now, how many people do you think have emigrated to Scotland and took baseball with them? PS Bluegrass music came from the Scots who settled in the South.

  • Mmmhm, you realise though that the "modern highland games" and all the "fluff" that goes with "Scotland" was mostly a victorian invention. To get some tourism going and so they could sell tins of short bread with pictures of castles on the front.

  • It's that some of us are the descendants of those who fought on the Jacobite side of the '45 Rebellion. After the defeat of our forces culminating at Culloden in 1746, our ancestors were exiled and sold into indentured servitude to the colonies. Gaining freedom in the new land, they fought the Crown which brought about our newly independent republic. But some have never lost sight of where our roots began and how the separation came to be.

  • @dawatticus - yes I do find it a bit strange - tell me what would be celebrated at your USA Games? USA is a melting pot country, so try and put a finger on something uniquely her own other than Hot Dogs & Beer ;) But, beer is originally European, and hot dogs are a form of sausage - and that's European too. Scotland has culture and traditions dating much farther back than USA.

  • @dawatticus that is a dumb statement you said

  • @dawatticus Yes, I agree with mc2cal- Your comment is strange. Why is it that every other "group" can be proud, but not if you are European American?

  • @dawatticus

Well USA is a country of Imigrants. With the way things are going, it will one day be the 5th of May as the major celebration. And English the second language. So suck it up. Turkey.

  • Comment removed

  • @dawatticus I take it you are not Puritan or English but you celebrate Thanksgiving?! So why is this strange? When atleast these people can claim legitimate celebration.

  • Scotland is made up with Scottish people, the USA is made up with all sorts of people including people from Scotland, so your thinking is not at full capacity.

  • @dawatticus if you are not to sure you better "GOOGLE " us m8!

  • @dawatticus its yanks who like to think there scottish just cos there great aunt jemimas cousins sisters dog was from scotland!

  • @dawatticus not strange, america is a placed built by immagrants, the only immigrants you get in scotland is pakis and poles. most of the south was built by ulster-scot immigrants. maybe u should be humbled that people with scottish acnestory are paying homage, is that really a bad thing?

  • @firemedic277 excellent point

  • @dawatticus But, what would the Annual USA Games consist of?

  • @TheMrBlinx eating cheese burgers really fast?

  • @dawatticus I personally would travel hundreds and hundreds of thousand miles to see pure scottish bag pipe players play but when they come to the usa it should be our honor to welcome them being the best music players in the world

  • @dawatticus Good point. Why no 'Annual USA Games'? Inquiring minds want to know -OR- Should there be no annual Scottish Games? hmmm... 'We want to preserve and honor' THEIR heritage, but they don't want to reciprocate.... hmmm... something seems wrong with that... hmmm... wonder what it is...?

  • Go Nicholson! We were in the red kilts with the green bag covers about an eighth of the way down.

  • lool and every bagpipe $2000

  • 1000000 dollars worth of pipes

  • i like it ...

  • low camera angles and kilts is not a good idea.

  • Fabulous. I was there, high in the grandstand!

  • Greetings from Germany! Great!

  • da hasta repeto tu!! si se juntarian todos las asturianos atocar tambien daria respeto mucho mas ehh

    -ARRONTI CANTABRIA -PUXA ASTURES

  • That was braw,it ferly gave me the auld goosebumps so cheers fer that pal.

  • Hezké !

  • They know whats coming when they hear the pipes flare. Thats why the British play them into battle, nothing finer.

  • quick note, not that I care particularly, but bagpipes are specifically Scottish, not British & some people can get very pissy if you switch the terminology. But the sentiment is absolutely true, bagpipes are the best battle call in the Western World.

  • Well this Scot is going to get pissy with you

British represents all of the united kingdom Scots are British. Britain does not = English

    British by birth

Scots by the grace of God

    Canadian by choice

  • The bagpipe that is used here is the "great Highland Bagpipe", and yes there were other forms of bagpipes in use in different countries in Europe the great highland bagpipe is unique in its chanter fingerboard and 3 drone set up.

  • yes i know my bagpipes i have two

a' Phiob mhor is one of them

  • The bagpipe is not uniquely scottish, however the great highland bagpipe is uniquely and specifically scottish.

  • The scots invented the great highland bagpipe.

  • There are bagpipes from a lot of different regions of the world. Ive heard even from south america. But the Highland pipes are among the most abundant today, and they are a product of a long history of developements among bagpipes. The frist pitch changing instrument with a reed, was something like a common bagpipe chanter, and wanting to facilitate circular breathing, it gained a bag, and the rest is history...

  • not western the whole world

  • whoooooaaaah!!!

  • Excellent, greetings from Czech Republic :)
