Actually, they light up just as well as they did before the tint. A little more pronounced actually going from dark cherry to bright red when i apply the brakes. And I did leave the center brake light un-tinted just in case...

Blackout kit is simply the spray-tint you buy at autozone or similar. just do a few VERY light coats until you get desired tint.
