His name was sammy.... he was my world but he got sick one day and my parents took him to the animal doctor... while i waited at home for him to come back... When my parents walked through the door i asked "wheres sammy?" they looked me painfully in the eyes and said " he couldnt make it" :'( he was my world (they had to put him to sleep) I cry for him till this day still... Such a tragic story. Would like to believe that there was a better place for dogs to go, but I don't. We only have this life, and that counts for dogs too. Dogs are wonderful creatures who teach us friendship and compassion and loyalty, the least we can do is love them back and give them the family and security they need. I love my dog with all my heart and always will. Adoption takes courage but it is a really noble thing to do. Lets make dog's lives so great they wont need heaven.

People are cruel. If you look on craigalist pets, 75%+ are 1 year old dogs. The owners decide, "oh! What a cute puppy!" thenwhen its an adult dog, "hmm, this dog isnt cute. Too much work! Growing up my family brought our dog from Hawaii to maryland- to japan- to Alaska- and back to Maryland. All the while we managed to find houses that allowed pets. There was an instance when we spent 3 months in 'temporary housing' that did not allow them, but we didn't care- we brought our dog in anyways... Thanks for sharing.

i have worked in a shelter for a little over 5 years, people don't realize that the story you told happens so often. Its the worst feeling when a dog is brought in and the people think that their middle aged dog is so adoptable,especially during "puppy season".Thank you.
