wait a minute...so is Charlie Wilson the lead singer here....? I've always known and loved the Gap band but never knew band members names. So is this Charlie Wilson the same as the one who's still around...who sing's "My Name is Charlie'? I love that song btw. For some reason I assumed that he'd be really old by now...I guess in his 60s or up...and no longer singing...
@ohmphthschwrhu you're right Stevie did do it with Living for the city and Teddy did it as well, but better. As far as the vocal style that Charlie and Johnny has, Teddy i believe did better than anybody.
If it wasn't for Charlie Wilson vocal style, R.Kelly and Aaron Hall would not sing the way they sing right now. And that's the truth and my opinion. Charlie Wilson, one of a kind indeed.
@baxstar dont forget stevie wonder threw out that difficult bright loudspeaker type vocal before charlie.it contains a little tinj of that holy ghost gag sound.stevei could add that preacher growl i.e. 'living for the city' teddy pendergrass could do that growl all day .johnny gill did that growl for 2years and fucked up his voice.eddie and aaron been new muufuckin better than git authentic with the holy ghost .poor johnny gill heinnonobetter.charlie the only one to cross age 40 doing it .
@baxstar but then the gap band actually originate out the 'holiness church' not baptist holiness.if you cant copy mama's holighsot vocal style by the age of adolescence forget it.

@baxstar -I saw a recent picture of Aaron Hall, the brother looked tote up from the floor up. What a wasted talent. He came up in church, just like the Wilson Brothers.
@baxstar Very true the artist of the 60's influenced the artist of the 70's and the artist of the 70's influenced the artist of the 80's and the artist of the 80's influenced the artist of the 90's and that is where it stopped for some reason. This new generation has dropped the ball unfotunately. I do not see any legends so far that started a music career after 1999 whether it be R&B or Hip Hop and the whole boy and girl group died all together.
@baxstar -Compare "Johnny Guitar Watson" to Charlie Wilson. "Watson recorded throughout the 1950s and 1960s with some success. His raunchy reinvention in the 1970s with disco and funk overtones, saw Watson have hits with "Ain't That a Bitch", "I Need It" and "Superman Lover". His successful recording career spanned forty years, with his biggest hit being the 1977 "A Real Mother For Ya."-Wikipedia

Is the soundtrack live or playback? To me, it sounds exactly as the album, right down to the reverb on the hand-claps.
Great hit, though !

I just googled Charlie Wilson, and it says that his BROTHER died -- NOT Charlie, but Robert. Charlie!!??? Damn, man...I thought you wuz dead!
That's how shit get started. Rumors of his demise (to paraphrase) is greatly exaggerated,

R. Kelly was probably influenced a lil more by Marvin Sease, Marvin Gaye, Clarence Carter, and Ron Isley...
