  • what did you record this with a poptart ?

  • arch linux for the fastest boot you will ever get.

slackware for the most stable distro.

  • still the slowest DE out there

  • Want a real treat? Try slackware with fluxbox. ON a virtual machine, a full boot is under 10 seconds.

  • But fluxbox isn't even close to the functionality and modernity of KDE 4.

  • Thanks! I have DSL now!

  • I have a very old pc

    whit

228MB ram and 8 Gb harddrive

    pentium2

What's the best linux for it?

I Just use it for school so i don't need any extras>>

    Plz help me..

(Sorry for my bad english I am dutch.)

  • Try Xubuntu or ArchLinux with XFCE environment.

  • you could always try a light version of linux like DSL (Damn Small Linux) or something that runs with little impact like that. depends on what features you want.

  • xubuntu

  • For a beginner/non expert use Xubuntu. For Linux expert use Arch Linux.

  • You'll probably end up with a custom built Ubuntu installation with a light WM like IceWM or fluxbox.

  • specs

  • GNOME is not as cool as KDE4 but a LOT more STABLE.

    PLASMA= :(

  • true.

  • KDE4 isn't really meant for normal use yet. Even the KDE developers recommend you use KDE 3.5 for stability.

It's sort of a preview release for developers and others who just want to try it out.

I'm using it right now and really like it. It's the only desktop environment really comparable to Vista's Aero and OS X's Aqua.

I also use XFCE for a stable DE

  • KDE does not need that kind of cheat to shows it´s good. The video´s name should be "How fast KDE 4 is loggin in".

  • ahha KDE i'm using ubuntu that has KDE and Gnome and actually i prefer the KDE due to the fact it's actually faster in loading. Gnome slightly behind in terms of speed.

  • Don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan on KDE (And it does actually load that fast on mine, even if this is sped up) but this is just logging in, not booting up. I am sure OS X and Windows take that long too (okay, windows is slightly slower :)

  • Ehh... logout and login again? Even Windows will boot that fast then. (Not a M$ fanboy mind you, I run Gnome and I'm about to switch to KDE.)

  • Fake. The icons wouldn't "blink" any faster even though it loads faster.

  • That's just an illusion - the film is played back at high speed -_-

  • slackware rules!

  • wtf, my ubuntu takes over minute to boot at 1024MB and with gnome

  • lol i can't belive what u upload here ....!!!!

  • My Ubuntu install only takes twice as long as that to actually boot up :)

  • OMFG!! that's amazing, which distribution do u use?

  • i compile it on slackware 12

  • your screen looks dirty.

  • sorry :) i take it using my digital camera

  • what is ur computer specs?

  • ati turion 64, 2.2 GHz, 512 MB DDR2

  • @Majalahlinux

Try KDE 4.1RC1 running on a good 8/9 yr. PIII (eg 850) with 32MB Geforce II or III and more than 380 MB memory. It still works. I think this is the real power of KDE 4. OK it is not so fast as your high speed PC, but it is still able to use the 3D effects, plasma,... and do basic jobs like browsing the internet and office use. (Don't try this with Windows Vista)
