I picked up a 783 Marlin today. Did the PaperMate spring mod myself. Trigger is much better. Crisp clean break at about 4 pounds. The best group I was getting at 100 yards. Was with the 22 WMR SUPER X 40 gr full metal jackets. There was a 5 to 7 mph cross wind. They cronographed at 1950 fps. Doing 1.5 groups out of a 33 year old Marlin 783. Not bad... I gave a friend that needed the cash $200.00 for it.
My Gun Shop magically had a 25MN in today! It doesn't look to have been shot much :D I think it was US $160 before tax. I couldn't find decent Marlin .22WMR's around so I was heading to the shop to order an XT-22. I like the bolt handle better than Savage's. The fit & finish is impressive. It has bottom metal. The wood is nice for what it is. I like the trigger. I want a Weaver 2-7x scope and 2 more mags, but that can wait. It has iron sights :) Ammo is affordable compared to my .308
After that first shot all the Squirrel's heads popped up. Searching the land for the boom, the tear in time, the beastly crack of the Rimfire Rifleman.
This rifle is accurate I know because I own one. I hit 12 gage shells at 50 yards using a $25 tassco scope and cci ammo. You shouldn't have a problem trying that.
i just picked one up today for 160$ and it has a bushnell scope and came with a sling it will bust ground hog heads at 300 yards

@Derail07 Thank you Sir! Everything but the trigger is modified. :) It's a great platform to start with though.

@RazorTNK the trigger on mine appears to be directly attatched to the sear although i think it is all one piece
