One that didn't make it was Harrold Carswell who Nixon nominated. The Dems rejected him as too conservative & narrow-minded.
He was later arrested for propositioning an undercover cop in a restroom.

If normal = common, then blue eyed people are "not normal" and therefore shouldn't be allowed to have sex/marry/procreate. Roughly 10% of people identify as nonheterosexual, so that's 600,000,000 people in the world.
If normal = natural, then homosexuality is seen in a variety of species of animals. See: Lions, giraffes, bonobos, and bottlenosed dolphins, etc.

The reality is that the country is changing. It is becoming more secular. Religion is viewed as something more of a personal and private thing as opposed to something that is forced upon people. 2. The economy tanking was primarily cause of predatory loans by private companies and financial fraud by more than 5 major private savings and loans.
3. Iraq has increased Iranian, Al-Qaeda, and terrorist activity in and around the region.
