  • @davejoshmom1 yes it is but some time it to fast some time it not gust about speed it also about if it user-friendly kde uses a lot or ram but if you computer can run windows 7 you can run this and it has gadgets snap it and loads of over cool stuff

  • i want to switch to kde which distro should i choose ...i use linux for coding plz help me

  • @zeeshangtk kubuntu?

  • @Xaahu is there any other distribution that i should be looking for?

  • @zeeshangtk u can choose anyone u want and install kde on it. i recommend ubuntu or kubuntu

  • I LOVE KDE 4.6!!!

  • @davejoshmom1

Currently there are more possibilities of functional desktops - it all depends who likes to work as a PC - the fastest is the console - if it comes to overlay graphics, I recommend to try gnome3 - greetings

  • Gnome is more lightweight than KDE, but i think KDE is easier to use and has more features than the new Gnome 3

  • @trisssg

Gnome 3 after becoming familiar with its capabilities also offers a number of hidden features - if you can find and try these features, it should be noted that slowly becomes competitive for KDE

    greetings

  • Hi, I'm looking forward for Mandriva 2011 final release, next Monday, I want to use it for the first time so I'll strt with something more challenging than Ubuntu and Linux Mint.

Is it stable? Which is faster, GNOME or KDE?

In advance, thank you for any opinion or suggestion you want to give.

  • @nando3116

Mandriva has gone in a slightly different direction - has chosen a new design and construction of the system, but Mageia 1 is an improvement mageia Mandriva 2010.2 version.

Choice of kde or gnome is a matter of habit for someone who has worked with Linux - I think kde has more possibilities!

  • @Piotrekw11

Thank you, now I want to know if you have any idea about this, how complicated is the installation of Mandriva 2011 beta 3 this far? I mean this 'cause I had Mandriva 2008 Spring, back in those years and it wasn't complicated at all now if you say it has changed the direction then maybe the installation process has changed too.

I've decided to give KDE a shot by the way...thank you again.

  • @nando3116

Mandriva Installation is easy as always - KDE requires for the proper functioning of equipment not older than two years and 1Gb video card - then you really give a lot of satisfaction - greetings

  • @Piotrekw11

Greetings, and thank you for your answers. It sounds like I cannot install Mandriva KDE to my computer I have only 1 Gb of RAM memory and 128 Mb video card which are shared from the RAM memory.

Are you certain that it needs 1 Gb video card? Or you confused that with 1Gb of RAM?

  • seven copied KDE anyways

  • @MultiJamala

Yes they did taskbar preview of running programs for example and the flip switch from compiz

  • ram?

  • In the case of Gnome is a matter of habit. I am a KDE supporter from the beginning due to the greater number of options and a more sophisticated look. As far as windows is the note that he takes handfuls of ideas Developer Linux (multiple desktops windows moving in 3D - Win + Tab keys, etc.) - pozdrawiam

  • Chromeo is just awesome. Nice video to play it with. I personally don't find kde very appealing. Kind of reminds me of Windows. I prefer gnome right now.

  • Чудненько.

  • @VadimDmitrichenko

    спасибо

  • ahhh KDE is simply exquisite... like a piece of fried chicken =)

  • @donOWNZ

I think so too - I recommend my YouTube channel piotrekw11 (address as in the video)

    greetings

  • @Piotrekw11 nice to meet someone with good taste =) greetings

  • @232nintendo

interesting idea - I personally never liked the simplicity of gnome because of its visual harshness - only from version 2.30 began to improve, but still far from gnome to kde

  • i still feel the low performance

  • @GodofAnotherWorId

Original wallpaper in KDE kdeartwork package, others may be used freely by left clicking on the desktop and select Desktop Settings

  • OMG, it has been a while since I used Linux, but I didn't like KDE 4 when it first came out cause they took away my desktop and only allowed widgets. I am glad to see the desktop is back, and widgets are a usable option.

  • cool vid & whats the name of this song

  • @Lynnc83

    'Hot Mess' Chromeo

  • lol i still have 4.5.1 i'm just going to wait for natty probably...last time i did a ppa update it totally f*&$ed my install.

  • @miasmablk

I use the current version of kde 4.6.00 for kubuntu 10.10 - works perfectly!! On mdv 2010.2 and cooker, which also I test, there is still a lot of bugs!

  • @Piotrekw11 What PPA are you using? 4.6 doesn't seem to be in the Kubuntu-PPA... The highest release I see in the PPA is Maverick, which is 4.5..

  • Nevermind, found it in the Kubuntu backports. :)

  • KDE ist the best!!!

  • @yahoomanpw I think KDE and GNOME are equal. I cant wait to tyr the new unity interface.

actually: EVERYTHING is great exept windows!

  • @nieknooijens That's just a sad attitude to have.. I bet you 50 million quid windows can run more PC games than Linux.. I've got a top end ATI graphics card and I have to use Mint KDE without the propriety driver because it slows the system down to a crawl.

1st thing I do after i've installed Mint is install XP in a virtual and have it on the 2nd desktop fullscreen.. Don't try telling me Dreamweaver & Photoshop and Fireworks all run together perfectly using wine cos they don't, it's hell to use

  • @fatriff do i care? NO!! the only thing I use wine for is running games, the latest wine 1.3 runs pretty much everything I tried. and if it doesn't run a particular game, there's a solution for that. it's called an console, yes! an computer BUILD for running games! I don't mind if wine doesn't run a game or two cause I know it will run it over time. and it's actually sad that you don't have the freedom of choice in the computer world. I don't say linux is the best, I only say windows isn't!

  • @nieknooijens Don't know about anyone else, but Unity hogs my CPU and is cluttered and looks like an iPad. Gnome 3 is also cluttered and looks like an iPad. In that respect, yes, they are equal. I can't believe I'm saying this, but there is finally something that surpasses Windows' suck factor. I just installed Fedora KDE. I hope KDE doesn't get screwed up in the future too.

  • @hippiechickie18 my friend has that too, it happens with certain types of intel processors, it's a serios bug and at the momen't they're still busy fixing it. i know it's a bug because i got an Pentium4 2.0GHz (single core) running unity-3d and it only uses about 5% CPU when idle. that isn't my main computer though! my main computer is an AMD X4 965 Phenom II (3.8GHz quadcore) which is also running unity. unity is still in development, so if you don't like it (yet) don't use it....

  • @nieknooijens and why windows isn't? Just because it's not free or open source?

  • @RhavoX cause the company sucks balls (really please search for all the crimes microsoft has been in court for!) the licence agreement-stuff is also bad, (by accepting it you allow microsoft to delete programs from your computer) and last but not least: the product windows itself, (it grows slower over time, fragments all your files and doesn't let you customize anything of the desktop)

  • @nieknooijens Also you can't forget the whole controversy about Windows including Internet Explorer with their Operating Systems. There was a big thing about that, they said that it was monopolizing the internet browser market.

  • Thanks!!!

  • @chik4chik
