  • this ship was the llast to have contact with the edmund fitzgerald

  • hope when they retire it they wont scrap it cause this freighter has history behind it. this was the 1 ship that stayed along and contact with the SS edmund fitzgearld when it sank. nice to see the anderson still in service in 2011 though.

  • Love this video!!

  • Great close up of Anderson's riveted hull plates. She survived the storm--even staying out in it to search for survivors. Riddled with cracked welds, Fitzgerald's welded hull failed. No wonder her sister ship Homer was scrapped.

  • I've seen the Arthur M. many times going up and down the St. Clair River. Saw the Edmund Fitzgerald several times there, too. This is great - really enjoyed the video. Thanks for the upload!

  • How does the sister ship Edmund Fitzgerald which was even a little bigger go down. I can't even imagine the power of the lake that nite.

  • @scotter420wigb ..This is not the sister ship too the Edmund Fitzgerald. the Big Fitz's sister ship was the Arthur B Homer and she was scrapped back in the late 80's.This ships history is that she trailed the Edmund Fitzgerald that night in 1975 and stayed out too look for survivors..

  • Seen her in Winter Dry Dock in Sturgeon Bay Wisconsin. One Proud Ship.

  • Just saw her heading north through the Detroit River today through those crazy winds! Very eerie sight since this storm is supposedly stronger than the one it went through in '75.

  • Did my cadet time on her. '94

  • omg i want to go to the GLMA and work on the lakes.

  • check the job market for the lakes before you burn all that money!!

  • There is a bad slump at the moment but they say great lakes shipping will have a shortage of licensed personnel in the coming years. GLMA boasts a 100% placement rate. Am I mistaken?

  • No that's what the boast but it's not true. They have used that same rehtoric for 20 tears. They do manage to place I would figure about 75% but mostly as relief mates that work maybe 3 months out of the year. Enineers is 100% because about 50% go to work on shore stations as engineers at power plants in schools or major outfits like Con Ed. Better bet is Maine or Calif Academies as the license is more useful.

  • I worked aboard the Arthur M. Fall of 06' as Third Mate. Nice presentation of the boat! It's still in great shape for being built in 52' or 53'. Check out one of my videos from inside the wheelhouse, looking out while underway. Thanks again

  • I worked that ship on a repair job at AmShip...think it was late 70's

    Steinbrenner sucks!

  • Cool I worked Am-Ship 13 years!

    Welder...what did you do?

    10-4 on Steinbrenner sucks!

  • do they take women?

  • oh yeah, right in the ass, beatin them in the ribs whil sendin in

  • apply to the company its owned and opperated by. shortage of sailors these days, and alot of crew cuts. each sailor basicly gets a room to there self

  • i wounder how would you get a jo working on that Ship

  • American Ship Building Co, Lorain OH bitches!

  • LOL...I must agree to that!

But was wondering are you or were you from Lorain? Just thought I might know you?

Knew some Am-Ship workers from Chester VA

Check out my link and see if know me! Thx!!!

  • Yes - from Lorain. Ship yard shut down when I was a kid

  • That is the ship that help that night.

  • @roscoejohn .. Yes this is the Great Lakes vessel that sailed with the SS Edmund Fitzgerald that fateful night. The Anderson is still plying her trade even today in 2011..

  • Great Video How did you tape this?

  • From the JW Westcott II mailboat. "Mail by the pail" as they say!
