@SADPS219 No, they weren't. The original Broadway puppeteering cast of Avenue Q does not consist of any Muppet alumni. They were all Sesame Street alumni, and have since returned to Sesame Street for brief moments in time, but none of them have played Muppet characters. Well, except for Rick Lyon (the guy playing Nicky); during the Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2008, he played Kermit for a performance of "I Believe in Santa Claus."
@TheKurauchiha Acutally, Avenue Q predates Johnny and the Sprites. Ironically, Johnny was asked to produce a show on Playhouse Disney AFTER the guy who contacted him had seen his performance in Avenue Q. But that's part of the reason why Johnny and the Sprites has a lot of cast overlap with various productions of Avenue Q.
@TheKurauchiha No prob! Although, now that I think about it, I think Johnny was contacted about producing a show during his Beauty and the Beast run. But again, that was after he had done Avenue Q for 5 years (from the early days of trying to find a producer to winning the Tony for Best Musical to the Las Vegas show). Then they started making 5 minute shorts of Johnny and the Sprites to air during commercials. And THEN the half hour show was on the air for 2 seasons.
"I would say that my buddy Rod is a closeted homosexual." Just the bluntness in his voice cracks me up in this. This is one of the songs where the facial expression on both the puppet and the puppeteer is absolutely priceless!
@OneHundredPercentAus That actually really depressed me because it was like, Rod's just realized he's in love with Nicky, and here Nicky goes telling their friends that he thinks Rod's gay. Talk about the ultimate betrayal/heartbreak/assholery.
@madcat789 Earlier in the show, he went to Christmas Eve for advice because he thought "his friend" was gay. At first, she told him there wasn't anything wrong with being gay; gay people have been making major contributions fo art, philosophy, and literature for hundreds of years. But when Rod told her that "his friend" was a Republican investment banker and not an artist, she told him to tell "his friend" to stay in the Closet 'cause he's good for nothing.
