  • Yow! This sux!

  • They were obviously influenced by New Order to the point of ripping off this song for their sound, but to cover it in this way and ruin it is ridiculous. They've totally ruined this song, fucking canadian wankers...

  • clappy blows.

  • fuckin bloody awful

  • It's funny because nobody explains exactly why this cover is an "epic fail" or "pure shit" and "worse cover ever".

  • Get a second opinion chaps if in future you decide to rape the back catalogues of the great and the good, get that second opinion from someone who's not a sycophantic brown nose as well. The clapping is utter, misguided bollocks.

  • if you're going to cover a song, learn how to fucking play it. this is pure shit!

  • Honestly I really like the version they did at Rock en Seine of this song. It basically just doesn't have the god awful claps, and way better sound. You might be surprised how much the claps make it sound like utter shit

  • I really like Arcade Fire in general but their covers are consistently horrendous. Between this and Magnetic Fields' "Born on a Train" cover, I don't know which is worse...

  • Damn hipsters get off my classic music

  • @jerryjm2 "Hipster" is an overused word with no meaning whatsoever. Try harder.

  • what's with the lame claps?

  • And that's why hipsters need to stay away from the classics.

  • @BikerMiscFromMars Not sure if serious.

  • worse cover ever

  • Makes a change to see a crap pub band do a cover of a new order song rather than the usual shit pity it's a fucking abortion though. Mind you for a bunch of guys who probably have full time jobs they seem to have pulled in maybe 20 or 30 people not bad.

  • how lame do those people clapping feel. they need like 1 person at most

  • i think the singer is having an orgasm while he sings.

  • Horrible horrible!!!!! Butchered is right.

  • Arcade fire sucks

  • that is so awful - they even look as if they know they're dying on stage.

  • Butchered.

  • God forbid a band takes a break from a grueling touring schedule and a pretty small repertoire (at the time) and plays a cover for shits and grins. I think with the other 16 songs they played that night, the audience got more than their money's worth.

  • Quite good really, reminds you it's how the song is performed/played.

Otherwise total shit. Great song destroyed. Knowingly too.

    Tossers.

  • This is actually horrific. They've disrespected New Order with this cover haha!

  • Terrible. Why do these guys get so many accolades and press? Reminds me of a really, really bad Dave Matthews-ish version of what was a GREAT New Order song. Amateur hour.

  • What in God's name was thinking Win?!?!?! Sure they can do a lot better than that!!!

  • I LOVE Arcade Fire & New Order is one of my favorite bands & Age is actually my favorite n.o. song....but this pretty bad...waste ,really. they could've done much better.

  • how the fuck did this retard get famous and the cover its just a new order massacre bauhaus covering transmission good radiohead covering ceremony good atoms for peace covering love will tear us apart great too this is just pure shit

  • yaaaaayyyyy worst cover ever yaaaayyyy

  • THIS SONG HAS THE CLAP

  • FUCK THIS SHIT!

  • Honestly, I love the Arcade Fire, but this is such a BORING version of a sensational song. They shouldn't have touched it.

  • Barney needs to give him a lesson.

  • yikes! super awful, i love this song and arcade fire, but they just dont mix ; /

  • gay

  • Bad just plain bad, where d'ya want me to start?

    Filler.

  • No.

  • Cool bands died in the 80's, and this is a prime example of current acts trying to attain hipness by attaching themselves to NO, The Smiths, J&MC, ect with lame arse covers ENOUGH ALREADY!!!

  • I doubt i will ever listen to this again. At the same time, I would have loved to have been there. This is something that shouldnt have been recordd, but that as a live act, and a fan of NO, would have been amazing. I

  • this is shit

  • This is terrible

  • First they murder Born on a Train; now Age of Consent. :( I enjoy their music but their covers have been, erm, spotty.

  • what is this crap?

  • Pelo menos é uma boa música e não ficou tão ruim assim. E olha que eu não sou fã de Arcade Fire.

  • One word....shit.And I'm sure many people would agree with me on that.

  • This is fucking rubbish!

  • If I want clapping in a song, I'll watch Tony Basil. Bah!

  • What the hell is this? Some one please beat me with a pipe so I know I'm not dreaming this shit up.

  • the audience clapping is annoying

  • i think this is great

  • I love this song! and I love the coverrrr <3

  • this sucks

    NEW ORDER FOREVER

    JOY DIVISION FOREVER

  • This is my favorite contempoary band...the fans are soo f'n cheesy though: so self-important.....nevertheless, awesome music

  • Welp, I love Age of Consent, and I .. like.. Arcade Fire, but screw this. They take the velocity out of it, and yeah. The hand-clap. Something New Order made judicious use of. Fuuuuuuuuuck this, seriously.

  • I love Age of Consent, and the Arcade Fire...thanks for the upload.

Why do people always have to share a negative opinion, make the world a better place and keep it to yourself ;-)

  • REUTC - who are you? Dr Who? Frign' long 3 and a half second, lard. And please don't kiss me, I hardly know you :)

  • PARKSY)!)!)! - were you there? got a better version? go comment there. larva.

  • @reutC who the fuck cares if we have a better version? as an audience, we have an opinion on if this is good or bad. the major consent here is that this is terrible.... and i have to agree.

  • Fucking talk about raping a song. This is pathetic and to you REUTC it's NOT the full version you maggott.

  • @parksy010101 awwww PARKSY010101 I am so sorry that I misled you, I know those 3 and a half seconds I missed at the beginning must have been devastating for you... xoxo

  • Comment removed

  • Ouch. Swing and a fucking miss with this cover.

The version NO played @ Estoc de Pop in '84 is how this song SHOULD sound live.

  • I love The Arcade Fire, but they do a terrible job covering songs. Except for their wonderful epic cover of The Guns of Brixton.

  • (sort of) like the band but this cover is awful. clapping? ouch.

  • sounds like they're coming down from an ecstasy trip

  • epic fail, agreed, but man, we all clicked the link for some reason. strange.

  • Arcade Failure. Quite unfortunate coming from the creators of two if the 00's finest albums.

  • God this sucks.....and that clapping is awful. I get the music of the whole indie scene but most of the time it just sounds like straight up over glorified nerdy hipster shit.

  • sucked dick

  • epic fail

  • terrible cover it took all the good things the original had and ruined it.

  • FAIL

  • ma che cover di merda...io gli sparerei in testa...hanno rovinato una canzone bellissima..andrebbero linciai

  • ehhh

  • I was there as well, that night at the HMH. Funny thing about it is, I got the set list afterwards and this song is not on it. I'm not saying it's improvisation but they didn't plan it. Pretty cool!! xx

  • arcade fire are imo best band of the decade (after radiohead), but yeh i have to agree with most ppls comments... they definitely slaughtered this one.

  • Ok. I don't know whether to like Arcade Fire or not. I really try to, but half the time on Funeral, except for Rebellion Lies, I just end up thinking "well, this one sounds like Joy Division""ok, now this one sounds like Talking Heads""Oh, ok, now this one sounds like another brooding, punk artist from the early 80's. bowie?" Their influences are clear. So much so, I didn't bother buying their next album. Did they find their own sound? Or do the songs still sound like rip offs of other bands?

  • wow. i loved funeral. if you didn't like funeral then you probably won't like neon bible.

  • Sorry...

    that came off harsh.

I like 'em enough... It just felt like before writing or recording each of the songs, they musta just finished listening to one of the bands/artists above. Wondered if they matured into their own unique sound on neon bible, or if I was gonna keep thinking "wow, this is ridiculously similar to early so and so"

  • @doma3333: I'm beginning to realize that we are demanding too much. I was born in '70 so, I too, feel like I've heard it all. It's really hard to come up with something completely new these days. How do you create something nobody has ever heard after Revolver, Substance, Stop Making Sense, Unforgettable Fire, Doolittle, Doppleganger or Loveless?

  • @skrason

sigh. yeah. i hear ya. '74 for me.

at least they're not more britney spears, sum 41 and on and on :S

  • @skrason: You stop referencing the same sources, use your influences as inspiration and not a template, utilize and /or creatively misuse what new technology is available to you, experiment, and think about it in terms of WHAT you want to sound like not WHO...... the kinds of things the bands who wrote those albums did. The problem is that the majority of the "indie world" these days is so focused on emulating the past rather than really trying to make something new; the attitude is the issue.

  • Everyone has been saying that since the beginning of time. Everything has been said before, everything has been played before, yet masterpieces keep coming out.

  • @doma3333: *sort of continued from the last comment I posted* And for Arcade Fire's part, while their sound is heavily influenced, they push it a step beyond what any of those bands did with the orchestral/anthemic grandeur of it all and freely mix their influences; to me they never seem to borrow too heavily from one source.

And frankly when there's other bands out there like CYHSY, White Lies, Pains of Being Pure at Heart, etc., calling AF out for sounding like older stuff seems silly.

  • wtf is this shit horrible cover they could have done alot better

radiohead do the best cover i kno

  • Nice try, love both bands, but FAIL. Totally.

  • tragic injustice. were these guys arrested after the show?

  • this fucking sucks. whats up with the clapping? stupid.. rubbish

  • THey got the clap! Yuckoo!

  • Kut!!!

  • Please Leave It Alone!! Nice Try but NOOOOOOOO!!!! ......See Radio Head/Ceremony Cover...Thats how you do it!

  • yep. spot on.

  • Agreed on the Ceremony cover. This was Arcade Failure.

  • Aural train-wreck.

  • Morris rules

  • DEEP IN THE HEART OF TEXAS

  • wow that sucks

  • Its a cover that's different. I love it. If I wanted to hear the original I'd listen to the original.

  • completely agree!

  • Bad, bad, bad version. Those claps are fucking annoying!

  • WTF is up with the THREE hand claps?? Check the original - Morris only hits the snare twice, and plays the beat around three times as fast. I totally dig Arcade Fire but this borders on travesty.

  • There are three emphases before the fade-out in the original, so I can see where Arcade Fire got their idea from.... but for the love of music, make them stop!

  • is this a rehearsal?

  • omg!!!! this is a shitty cover!!! new order deserves better ugh mad disappointment!!!!

  • DISGRACE TO NEW ORDER!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Arcade fire are amazing but this cover :( no

  • I dont think that you people understand that yes it is true to us sitting here it doesnt sound good, but the real fact is that they were there and they could feel the energy of the show.

being able to be there would have been magnificent.

    I am Jealous

  • arcade fire should be kicked in the nuts for this

  • SORRY but this is VERY WEAK.

  • wow, I try not to hate on anyone's artistic vision. but this is just fucking terrible. This is a slight to such an amazing group of musicians.

  • this is a piece of shit

  • I agree with wingnut 1989johnjano....this more than sucks.

  • An insult to a great band and song.

  • Actually, I bet this was pretty good, if you were standing in a place where the damned clapping didn't come out so loud.

  • not good...surprising

  • Don't get me wrong, I love Arcade Fire and think they're a breath of fresh air in music today what with their creativeness... but this is horrid. Whatever they tried to do... didn't work at all. Win looks stoned :|

  • eurgh, what a terrible cover

  • what a disgrace to the song. Speak up u shitty band. fuckin fire.

  • the clapping needs to end!

  • check out the Joy Division cover, much better.

  • i dont think there is a joy division cover, as new order (who did the origional) formed after ian curtis's death

  • first of all Joy Division did the 'original' but theres few versions of them doing it because Ian killed himself before they could record it. New Order does the song in tribute to Ian.

  • Prove it.

  • Some of you are mixed up. You are mistaking this song with Ceremony which is a song written by Joy Division but Ian Curtis killed himself before the band could record it in studio. Radiohead among others covered Ceremony. This however is a cover of Age of Consent , not the same song and it was written entirely by New Order.

  • strange....

  • wow, they really suck. i hate win (or will?) butler´s voice, especially in this song, he sings it completely wrong, the whole energy is missing.

  • I love Arcade Fire, but this cover is poor, they tried hard to make it in a different style and arrangement. However, in a damn wrong way.

  • Fucking hell, some crowd, gay clapping like a fucking Christian rock concert, and not the mention, shit awful no energy at all cover.

May this new wave of cunt mongo horrible bands die!

  • The thing about covers is that they're unreliable. Some bands you just can't cover, New Order being one, and, it just so happens, so is Arcade Fire. If I didn't know this was a New Order song, I'd think it were pretty good. But since I do, it's mediocre.

  • wow, I can sing better than that guy, and I can't sing at all.

  • Don't do anymore New Order, Joy Division, or Magnetic Fields covers until you write more songs of your own, okay arcade fire?

    love, mom

  • I thinks its okays...ot great...they were being subtle and honring the nuancy nature of the song...Covers are tough...they didn't quite make it their own as much as they were enjoying playing it .

  • love arcade fire ....love new order but this is CRAP....one of my favourites fukin ruined tossers

  • This cover sucks!

  • Quite poor. Sorry, lads.

  • These pricks are a disgrace to this song.

  • i cant believe the arcade fire to b fans of neworder or joydiv.cant hear it in their music.funny cover.

  • Well, as a Post Punk derivative, I suppose its de riguer to play something from the Madchester scene, but I tend to agree that this is a bore.

  • you dont have many friends do you

  • What a way to destroy a good song..they should be punished...

  • they turned this into a lullaby are they retarded?

  • Ouch, they made a great song into something so boring......couldn't listen till the end....

  • stupid. they ruined a legendary song

  • I thought this was incredibly good, actually. I've heard their older cover from 2005 and it sounds quite different--a lot closer to the original. I thought this was nice, though; the atmosphere of the song is really intense here. I kind of like the clapping because they're stressing the right beats; those would be the snare hits in the original. But everyone to their own, I guess.

The guy to Win's right (Richard) is playing the synth melody from the original, although it's really faint.

  • WHAT THE HELL?!?! who let these JERKOFFS cover this great tune soooo FUKN horribly? these assholes deserve to CRASH N BURN!!!!! fukn pansies

  • Oh come on, Arcade Fire is a very good band. As a New Order fan, I'm glad that such a good band is covering my favourite band, it shows that New Order had an impact on future bands.

  • This version is fine, they played it a little differently and that's commendable; not everything always works out but I certainly respect novel interpretations. As for the clapping, I suspect the audience found it agreeable, otherwise they wouldn't have continued to clap. If it's not for the audience what's the point?

  • no offense but that bassist really LOOKS like a hooky wannabe

he doesnt play like him though

  • yeah, the clapping is annoying and the bass riff is a bit to mellow

  • awful version.

  • I would agree, the clapping is really fucking annoying. The original is my favorite song of all time. Most amazing thing I have ever heard. And this is a pretty good live cover of it.

  • I like Arcade Fire, I really do, but I suggest that everyone who've never heard the original from New Order to check it out NOW, it's beautiful. This cover is kind of annoying with the clapping and is not as refined.

  • I like what they did with the song. Of course they wouldn't be able to replicate it New Order style, nor should they. It was a nice break from the flow when they performed this midway-early in the set I was at.

  • I like this band. Age of Consent has always been one of my favourite New Order tracks so if it introduces a new generation to the song..brilliant. Check out the original though...it's sublime. No, I don't get the handclaps either but what the hell, a lot of people seem to like it and that's what counts I suppose.

  • I hate all the little conversations going on in the background. Why can't people just shut up during a concert? It was the exact same deal when I saw them in Chicago.

  • wow this is pretty bad. i am amazed at how easily people convince themselves that something is good just because they like the performer. i hate the dude to butler's immediate right, he contributes nothing to the band. i think these guys are a decent band but they are really overrated. people shit themselves over these guys. i dont get it. what is so special about them? what is unique? what is groundbreaking? it is all very formulaic and a little boring. also the claps are lame.

  • agree with the claps. ;)

sorry if you don't see the beauty in Arcade Fire's music, people all have different taste.

''i hate the dude to butler's immediate right, he contributes nothing to the band.''

    that was totally uneccessary. wtf?

    anyway.

  • claps are borring, if you want an incredible cover, go on your right and watch the same song in "rock en seine"... It's incredible even if it's just a part of that song.

sorry for my bad english i'm french

  • oh man, gotta thank you too so much!

after the show last year i tried to find any videos of that cover but there was almost nothin g to find..just 1-minute recordings

    it's so beautiful, wow

  • Thank for this, it's a crazy awesome cover.

  • annoying cover version! the only good version is the real one on the album.

  • Yeah, second that comment about the clapping--it's annoying as hell.

  • WTB edit without horribly annoying clapping :(

  • Hey what a pleasant surprise, you caught it and in fine quality too! Well done and thanks :o)

  • Beautiful :) thank you for posting this video. Really nice quality too and I almost break a tear at the end, I remember singing parts of the song. Very magical!

  • you're more than welcome.. i am very glad i managed to capture the entire thing myself. and i'm more than happy that the sound quality turned out so fine as well. :)

would be cool if someone made it into an mp3 and cleared the noise a little (if possible).. i'd definitely listen to it a lot.

  • Ik was erbij..filmpje doet helaas geen recht aan t nummer, want t was geweldig:)
