When I spoke of modern Heavy Metal, I was speaking of groups starting in the early to mid 90s, who decided guitar solos, melody, harmony, and for the most part even singing, were no longer cool. That cookie monster style vocals or simply yelling in key and tuning your guitars all the way down was the way to go. Influenced more by hardcore and rap, than Black Sabbath or Judas Priest.
