to my brother, who past away far too young. And yes, sometimes he was too heavy for me to carry him...I miss you, never thought you'd leave so soon.....,love,your sister
My brother was diagnosed with cancer and his wish was to tour europe on a motorbike , so i baught a bike and took my test at age 59 and together we toured europe for 3 weeks this song says it all.
LOVE Allan Clarke, love his voice, his breathing, his phrasing, his control... But lord he was an arrogant bugger too, wasn't he?! Never mind, guess he had a quite a bit to be arrogant about!
ESTA NO ES UNA SIMPLE ROLA ES UNA CANSION ECHA ALA MEDIDA DE TODOS AQUELLOS QUE SON MAS LENTOS PERO AL FINAL SON NUESTROS CARNALES Y NO PESAS POR QUE SON NUESTROS HERMANOS .! JAH BLESS
The people who say here that, those were the years when music was music. You got that right! You could really listen to this and really enjoyed it. Now days you just have to select certain music to listen and really is not that much you can get. So sad and disrespectful to music. That is my point of view.
This isn't the song that makesme cry when someone of my generation or younger dies. It's the Air that I Breathe. That's what makes me cry when a young man dies. and I'm crying for Dan Wheldon tonight.
thanks for all ,danke euch allen die ihr es möglich macht daß unsere jugendzeit nicht im universum verschwindet, erinnerungen die das leben lebenswert machen durch solch wundervolle musik....
Who is this man in the beginning with the pink shirt? I just remember Benny Hill made jokes about him like "Roy Orbison´s new musical bum!" "What?.. New music ALBum!" etc. :)
I'm not a musician but... What a nice drummer is Bobby!! What a nice singer is Allan!! This song makes me cry. The only thing I would like to happen about the Hollies, was a return of Graham Nash to the band. AMAZING performance!! Greetings from Mexico. Sorry my bad english
It gives so many covers from this fantastic song. No other group or singer did it in a BETTER way then the Hollies. For many guys - this is the best song that ever were released. No chance to make it better.
Allan Clarke appears to be actually singing, but why is his voice still coming through at the same time he's playing the harmonica at the end. Why are there no mics on the drums? Where is the keyboard/piano player and the orchestra? Why does Tony Hicks always appear to not really be singing? The regular bass player is absent.
How many times can I vote LIKE? One of the top 10 songs of the 20th Century... I don't know what the others might be offhand but I know this is one of them!
This song brings tears to my eyes but the Hollies are such a joy to watch. Solid performances by Bobby and Bernie, Tony's eyes closed as he sang, and hearing Terry's angelic voice make this video special. The best part though was at 3:55 when Allan said " Yes he is baby" and looked to his side. So cool!!!
they just dont make songs the way the used too, ah 70's, ill give anything to travel back in time and return to you, the best years , damn im in tears
What a beutiful rendition but he did mess the words up. No big deal, after singing it for so many years it's easy to do. Why can't anyone sing this well these days.
Great clip! Lovely version. It was obviously re-recorded just for this show (that was the MU rule at the time) and the vocals added live (I won't get into the "sadness" debate). Look at those 1" thick pads on Bobby's drums to mute them!
Well its about time !!!! its well overdue !!! "The Hollies" to The Rock And Roll Hall of Fame ... Yes Please !!! Love you Allan Clarke xxxx.....Lyndloo....
Ladies and gentlemen......On the final ballot of 10 (from which 5 will be picked)....Rock and Roll Hall of Fame contenders....The (fantastic, tremendous) Hollies!
why do you have to look for faults with every video Ive noticed .. you do it alot dont you ? just enjoy ....OR..better still.... dont watch it .....ok?.. you just wanna spoil everyones enjoyment .. But Guess!!!!! what you dont spoil mine .... Lyndloo....
Don't get yourself all bent out of shape; it's not a criticism, just a comment. Even John Lennon messed up lyrics when performing, that he wrote himself! Musicians are only human.
@moorlock2003 Sure they are. I've seen Patti Smith and David Bowie both mess up their lyrics in concert; I still love both their music, and I love them all the more for showing that they are not perfect and can laugh with their fans :)

Where are you seeing this? sadness?
I can see interpretation, and an outrageously beautiful voice.
Allan is perfect!
veraluciasc 2 years ago 3
at 2:23 he sings the word "sadness", but the word he should be singing is "gladness" which is on the original recording.
If I'm laden at all, then I'm laden with sadness
that everyone's heart isn't filled with sadness? No, it should be gladness,
and love for one another.
He sings sadness twice when the second time it should be gladness.
Got it now?
He's only human. Everybody makes mistakes.
moorlock2003 2 years ago 4
Understood.
Now you have to understand that Allan is not wrong.
He is just testing the fans to see beyond his beautiful voice and her charm irresistibly fans can hear that he changed the words.
Congratulations you made it.
