I was there in the Gwladys St end. Right behind where the ball hit the net ! The crowd surged forward and people fell. I ended up under a number of people and that was quite scary coz no-one can hear you. Terraces brought terrific atmosphere which has disappeared from the game but things are much safer now.
There was pure hatred amongst the fans that day. Pound coins were thrown even golf balls with nails stuck in them. I was at Anfield for the infamous ammonia incident and all hell broke loose across Stanley Park. Police horses charging everywhere. We were on a bus of mixed fans and we had to stop at Walton Hospital cos one Manc fan got stabbed in the leg (he could only get in the Kop and got found out...) Heady days my friend...but some proper footballers, not athletes trying to be footballers.
@rotblaubasel nb I'm not condoning or glorifying any of the stupid behaviour. It's just how it was. There's another clip on youtube which shows some of the Anfield game I refer to. You'll see fans fighting in the stands as the players get on with the game.
I remember that. Mancs who got found on the Kop that day got a f*cking good hiding and had to be rescued by police, near the old cafe next to the Kemlyn Rd Stand.
I miss Brian Moore's calls. Such an epic commentator.
