Unless people are warned to come very, very slowly off these drugs (months instead of weeks) by shaving minuscule amounts off their pills each day, as opposed to cutting them in half or taking a pill every other day, they can go into terrible withdrawal—bouts of overwhelming depression, terrible insomnia and fatigue, and can include life-threatening physical effects, psychosis, or violent outbursts.
My question is, did the 60% of patients who had problems coming off the drugs try to come off the drugs slowly with help from their doctor, or did they just stop taking them?
A few months ago I decided on fighting my deppression drug free through improved diet and fitness. Running swimming healthy food and the gym have made me feel and look better. So a couple of days ago I visited my doctor and by the end I'm a Fcuking Zoloft patient! Im feeling like shit now! I feel like Im changing into a Zoloft Zombie! Thanks Zoloft.
I know exactly how you feel, except you should not use the F word, people will make up false stories about you if you talk like that. I don't think anyone escapes the shrinks office without being drugged and labeled several different ways. When the drug causes irritability, next thing you know the shrink will say you are bipolar, if it causes headaches, then they prescribe a different drug. Pretty soon you will be a toxic wastedump like me and your dreams, ambitions and lifespan will be ruined.
Zoloft makes people sit in a chair all day and stare at the sky, it can also make people cranky and grumpy and curse. When they try to comeoff it feels like there are some explosions of brain cells being popped inside their head. It is not an antidepressant and none of those psychiatric drugs has ever helped any psychiatric patient I have ever known. They are all disabled by drugs. The drugs don't illness, and a plethora of physical health nightmares.
I was on about a dz. diff. antidepressants after my dad died. NO dr. EVER suggested taking me off them. Ten yrs later I decided enough was enough.. I found a psych at the VA who is willing to taper me off ALL my psychiatric meds. Withdrawal from benzos is hell but I feel more like myself every day... get a clue, ppl! If drs. didn't prescribe this crap they would be out of business!!
They don't design any drugs so you can "come off" them. And if they don't work, they'll just fiddle with the dosage until you either go out on your own to try and kick them or you up and freak out. Enjoy.
i was on zoloft, i was takn 2 tablets a day coes i said it wasnt getting better so the doctor just up the dosage and i was taking them for about 2 months when i stopd suddenly i started to cut my wrist and tryd to kill myself, and i went to another docoter he just gave me difernet anti depressants, but im not taking them, im feeling a bit better now i think the anti depressants made me like not care about anything like a zombie i hated it just made it worse
Well Mark I was on it for a short while until i realised how crap it is. My boss was on it for four years and she nearly died when she tried to stop taking but she is so much happier now that she is off and so am I.
You people disgust me. Shut the hell up if you;ve never been on anti-depressants, because you don't know what you're talking about. I'm on Effexor, I don't know how I managed without them
Try swimming laps nonstop, get into an exercise program that you ENJOY. At first exercise is difficult, but after going daily it gets easier and controls mood well. Trying to exercise while on antidepressants is difficult. Doing anything on drugs is going to be messed up, including your school performance.Read some case law about what happens to psychiatric drug patients when they are in the workforce. They are fired.
my mom takes effexor and she's aggresive and off the handle i can't stand her, it was never like this and they never told her she would become dependant and have to eventually max out her dosage she pops pills all day now and me and my little brother suffer
I take anti-depressants, i know it works. And i know i have to take it forever, i'll make those bitches richm but i'll be a normal person as long as i take them
The Scamtology (scientology) history of psychiatry is: Xenu, an alien warlord who live 75 million years ago, neutralized billions of other aliens with his psychiatric powers, flew them to eart on DC8 planes and blew them up with H-bombs. Tom Cruise fails to mention this Scamtology non-sense. PS: you also evolved from clams.
I'm trying to get off an antidepressant and now realize I never needed it in the 1st place. I tried 4 different kinds and it made matters worse... suicidal thoughts, muscle twitches, brain zaps and dizzy spells, extreme anziety which I NEVER had problems with before. (I agree with spacemonkey)
if you read the studies and believe me, there are TONS: meds work, therapy works, but works the best long term is combination therapy of meds+therapy.
its funny and upsetting that people think they can take a "magical" pill and there depression will go away.what is needed is counceling to work out your probs. pills will never make it better, ever.did you know that doctors have shorter life spans than most people? think about that
Antidepressants have been great for me.
5 years and no major problems, and they WORK!
