@DjZeroGravity129 Impulse is a fine drum machine, I have Live 8 Suite and use it for almost all of my drum loops. You do know you don't need to use Abletons inbuilt drum racks? Download a sample kit like vengeance and just drag your own drum samples into Impulse. ;)
hey are you using the ableton launchpad edition?? they really give you very basic intruments to use in the launchpad edition maybe i messed up somewhere updating it or something idk but i wish there were more instruments and atleast a drum rack that isnt impulse
@xPVI Ok at 4:25 he sets the MIDI Output to Launchpad.. mine doesnt show launchpad in the options only the drum rack.. So i went to the MIDI sync page and when i try to change the second output under MIDI ports, the Off/On button is faded or no able to use.. help

My launchpad still doesn't show up in the Midi To section. In my midi preferences, it is set as the controller, input, and output, and under Midi Ports the launchpad's output sync and remote buttons are enabled (yellow) but the track button only turns a lighter shade of grey, not yellow, when I click it. @MrJonex225 I had to download a newer version of ableton. the one that came with my launchpad was outdated, and once I downloaded the new version it worked instantly

@ajmtranz Turn off multicore support until ableton releases a patch as noted on the ableton support site regarding lion and the crash bug they have listed on the home page of ableton
@Fuzzels65 Those are the main reasons why it's worse. To have the Launchpad working as good as the APC40 does you would need the Launchpad and a decent mixer. APC40 is basically a Launchpad with a different design and no mixer. Now leave your bridge and go learn about real life.
@Idelafr its in the preferences - midi tab, make sure that beside one of the "Outputs" below the "Midi Ports" line you have everything switched on for Track Sync Remote then go back and Launchpad should be there. I was having the same problem.
@ObitNet Pretty sure the apc40 does this and way more, but if it's your first thing like this, I'd say go for the launchpad because it's less than half the price of the apc40 and you might not be into this kind of thing.

thanks for the tutorial, but i had some problems in user1 mode, when i touch the pad ambar LEDS should turn on, but they don't. Ok, I had the same problem. go to options and undo the "computer midi key board" option, then go back to preferences - midi sync - and you should have options now for the input and output
@ChoClateMilk2 Click the MIDI button in the upper right between the KEY button and the CPU meter, and the Live display will overlay a blue color over the controls and parameters that can be now assigned to a MIDI control. Double-check your Live manual, page 401 for Live 7's manual and page 459-460 for Live 8.

@ChoClateMilk2 I think you're asking how to make this tweak *permanent* so you don't have to do it every single time. Don't have M4L, so I dunno about creating a patch, but it seems the easiest way to do it would be to create a new Live set with only the LED feedback channel in it, save the file (i.e. led_template.als), and then make that file the template file that opens whenever you launch Live (Prefs > File/Folder at the very top where it says "Save Current Set As Template")...
@ChoClateMilk2 Then when you open Live and start working on a new set, the template file opens and the LED feedback channel is ready to have another channel route its MIDI to it. I do the same thing for my click track channel as I use a REDRUM kit in Reason, so my click channel already has the ReWire routing set up so I can drag and drop my click track MIDI clips into it. It's not really a "permanent" solution, but using a template file would certainly save you the couple minutes of setup time.

@MATTnJACKmaybeBEN@gumbasmut Sounds like you need to tweak your MIDI prefs in relation to the Launchpad so it actually receives MIDI output to light up the buttons. Go to Preferences > MIDI Sync. Under Control Surface, Input and Output at the top, make sure one of the rows is set to Launchpad. Then down under MIDI Ports at the bottom, enable Track and Remote for both the "Input: Launchpad Input" and "Output: Launchpad Output." If that doesn't fix it, I'm not sure what's wrong.
hey man, the cuantization is not perfect, how is the routing to paint notes in the exact cuantization, for example my closed hats aren't in the perfect cuantization, is the routing from the audio you called resample in your video?, hoy do you recorded that?
If you don't see Launchpad in the MIDI to window, just hit configure and go into the menu and choose Launchpad. This worked 4 me. I see what you mean about the odd lights flashing in session and mixer modes. It doesn't affect anything but the lights though. Midi mapping an off when session or mixer is pressed is probably the answer there though. You were a bit vague on that point but I think I got it. BLAM!!!!

I recently updated to intro version 8.2.1 and everything is working as shown above. So either get at least intro or update the launchpad version to 8.2.1. I also learned that the instrument drum rack automatically sets up the 4x4 grid which in the launchpad version you can't do much with drunk rack except use the preexisting drum racks that come with the program.
@AgustinNoesEverythin My luanchpad came with version 8.0.6. You can go to ableton's website and update to 8.2.1 with the ableton lite version I believe.

@mertcanization No its a generic midi controller that can be used to control any application that receives midi, but novation put a lot effort in making the launchpad integrate into ableton well.

Alright I just bought this, and it's probably one of the most complicated pieces of equipment i've ever used. So my first question would be if I can stop and start clips in Session Mode at will, to make a repeating/scratching kind of effect or just random little intros that stop whenever i want them to (usually when I press a green button once and then again, it just does nothing.
I'm having trouble setting up the LED feedback. When I send the midi back to the LP the lights get stuck when I play something from drum rack. It doesn't toggle the LED but lights up and stays lit. Any idea ?
Problem taken care of, just in case anyone else is wondering the lights will stay lit if your using Live 8.0.6. What you need is the latest version or update it like I did. (8.1.3)
Hey man. Can I use this with Logic to record songs? I was just looking at drum machines when I ran into these. I like these as they have much better live implications than normal drum machines. In any case, for example, can I make a drum sequence on here and use that in Logic? Or can I simply use it as a VST in Logic? Thanks
how to turn on lights ? i went to drum racks .. choosed kick ... draged it on my audio grid...and pressed user 1 .. then i started to trigger buttons...but no lights :P
I did follow the steps for visual metronome, and it does come up in user1 mode. But if I switch back to the session mode, 4 random buttons blink and it's very annoying. Can I set up visual metronome in session mode?
I'm having a lot of trouble getting the MIDI out to launchpad to work. im getting a lot of hanging lights, as in they stick around after i hit a drum, rather than only appearing while pressure is put onto the pads. any ideas?

If you don't see Launchpad in the MIDI to window, just hit configure and go into the menu and choose Launchpad. This worked 4 me. I see what you mean about the odd lights flashing in session and mixer modes. It doesn't affect anything but the lights though. Midi mapping an off when session or mixer is pressed is probably the answer there though. You were a bit vague on that point but I think I got it. BLAM!!!!

im having trouble with my launchpad crashing on me. it works until i switch back to session view, and then it crashes. is this a problem with my midi syncs? or something else? help by anyone would be appreciated please!

I recently updated to intro version 8.2.1 and everything is working as shown above. So either get at least intro or update the launchpad version to 8.2.1. I also learned that the instrument drum rack automatically sets up the 4x4 grid which in the launchpad version you can't do much with drunk rack except use the preexisting drum racks that come with the program.

@AgustinNoesEverythin My luanchpad came with version 8.0.6. You can go to ableton's website and update to 8.2.1 with the ableton lite version I believe.

I am new at this so plz dont be rough.
I add a drum rack from my Beat Bundle CM and the only way i can get anyting to react is to press 4 the lovest triggers on the pad.
Is it somthing that i am doing wrong ore is it a bug ? i have the newest version of live 8 suite

sometimes when I press 2 or more buttons and then release them, some of them won't turn off, how do I solve this? I noticed it didn't happen when I wasn't using the visual stepfeedback. Anyways great tut ^^ check out my cover of Pendulum's Witchcraft, using the Launchpad as a keyboard.

Also how did you get your drum sounds in one 4X4 grid? My drum sounds are scattered all over the pad when in user1 mode??

Can't get the launchpad to show up in the 'MIDI to' drop down menu. The only thing that seems weird is that in the MIDI port section under prefernces the on button is gray for MIDI output. is this a limitation of the launchpad edition?

You never showed how to set the overdub and auto monitor buttons to midi keys on the launchpad.
Im hitting the pads I saw you use in midi edit mode and nothing is happening.

I don't understand what you mean by, "by default, nothing's being sent back to the launchpad " What is the significance of midi routing the midi from the drum rack sent back to the launchpad? Is it just for the light displays?

hey the launchpad just doesn't come up as an option int he midi out box of my empty midi track? is there any reason for this? my only thought is that i'm using the lite version of ableton that came with the launchpad.... :/

The launchpad comes with Ableton Live 8: Launchpad edition which lacks drum rack editing and rack editing, would this still be possible?

However, I did not understand how you managed to "sync" the notes to your quantization. I tries to set the quantization to 1/16 or 1/8, but my midi notes are recorded at the exact moment I pressed them, and not on the nearest 1/16th. Do you have an idea why?

@mertcanization No its a generic midi controller that can be used to control any application that receives midi, but novation put a lot effort in making the launchpad integrate into ableton well.

@phiegnux Yeh the default is yellow, adding a velocity fx will allow you to change the pad colours

The metronome LED light changed with the Velocity works perfectly I like that tip

Alright I just bought this, and it's probably one of the most complicated pieces of equipment i've ever used. So my first question would be if I can stop and start clips in Session Mode at will, to make a repeating/scratching kind of effect or just random little intros that stop whenever i want them to (usually when I press a green button once and then again, it just does nothing.

I'm having trouble setting up the LED feedback. When I send the midi back to the LP the lights get stuck when I play something from drum rack. It doesn't toggle the LED but lights up and stays lit. Any idea ?

Problem taken care of, just in case anyone else is wondering the lights will stay lit if your using Live 8.0.6. What you need is the latest version or update it like I did. (8.1.3)

Hey man. Can I use this with Logic to record songs? I was just looking at drum machines when I ran into these. I like these as they have much better live implications than normal drum machines. In any case, for example, can I make a drum sequence on here and use that in Logic? Or can I simply use it as a VST in Logic? Thanks

how to turn on lights ? i went to drum racks .. choosed kick ... draged it on my audio grid...and pressed user 1 .. then i started to trigger buttons...but no lights :P

I did follow the steps for visual metronome, and it does come up in user1 mode. But if I switch back to the session mode, 4 random buttons blink and it's very annoying. Can I set up visual metronome in session mode?

I'm having a lot of trouble getting the MIDI out to launchpad to work. im getting a lot of hanging lights, as in they stick around after i hit a drum, rather than only appearing while pressure is put onto the pads. any ideas?

in user1 mode, all the notes should be MIDI channel1 right? for some reason I have notes on channel 5 in user1 mode and it really limits the ways I can set up multiple keyboards thru live
