Hi. Out of interest, how old is the motor and what make is it? Hope you work out a solution for when you close the flap. Can you shorten the motor shaft? (Then again, I guess you may not want to butcher an "old classic").
@SpeakerVoiceCoil it's not a very old motor, maybe 10-15 years old or so, and it says Jakel co. or something like that on it. hm maybe I could shorten the shaft.. thanks for the idea
Not bad, there has to be a different way to mount the motor to allow for the blades to stay on. You might be able to as suggested below, drill a hole for the shaft and drop the motor down. I love them fans, got TONS of them from various appliances vent systems, lol.
Could you take off the crank open window and put either shutters or another window with a crank on the side? I was also thinking a shroud for more air movement.
Daniel, what song was at the beginning?

I was actually thinking about big computer cooling fans or air hockey table fan. You know the fans that you turn on to play table hockey.

Nice project. You will make use of that this summer for sure.

Can you drill a hole in that bar for the motor shaft, and mount the motor under the bar instead of overtop it, or is the shaft too short?
that is an extremely awesome idea though, installing a fan in the roof vent to suck all the hot air out! How well has the new fan been working?

@wilkes85 hey that's not a bad idea! never thought of that! but the shaft might not be long enough. the fan works great to cut down the excess heat

@RRRMMM1111 a duct isn't a bad idea but it would interfere more with the closing of the vent

@ControlledExplosions What putting a vintage 30" ceiling fan with no rod. And put it to reverse to push the air out the crank window?
