@BillieBobSmith I don't the situation in whatever "right to work" state you live in, but in L.A. we have non-union companies beating down our door right now to get signatory. There is very little work across the board but the little work there is is all PLA. The non-union sector seems to be way more screwed than us. We've already signed a number of companies that we thought would never come over. And only a joe would flip to work for a non-union outfit. They're not worth a damn to us.
@BillieBobSmith Immigrants aren't the best workers. They're the cheapest workers. In the union we have a qualitative training apprenticeship program where we learn every aspect of our trade. Union construction crews routinely finish projects in less time and with less injuries and fewer problems than non-union. If you want it done cheap, go non-union. If you want it done right, pay for a union crew.
@BillieBobSmith I'm sure that what you consider to be a "good wage" is less than a "living wage". Your whole post underlines the reason why unions exist in the first place. You hire only immigrants who are happy to work for substandard wages who undercut U.S. citizens. Do they get a pension? Do they get full benefits? Do they have somebody looking out for their safety and welfare? Meanwhile the boss drives a benz and lives in a mansion while profiting from the exploitation of desperate men.
@REXROTH61 You are a genius my friend. I've worked for non union all my life and never had a complaint. We learned all aspects of concrete work. Then i moved to a smaller city and decided to try a union company, wowww what a shocker. All the laziest and dumbest people i ever met were working there and they were only there cause they had been fired from non-union companies. I was there 1 month and quit. Im glad to be a non-union member fuck those lazy losers.
@mario102395 Idk where you live, but that couldn't have been the United Brotherhood of Carpenters. Our Locals here in Canada, if you're not working fast and hard, you're out. Back to low wage non-union for you.
