  • very good!! oss!

  • this kata is so dam hard

  • heian godan and this kata are my favorite

    i love the jump :P

  • OMG! today we made this kata... the only thing i remember is the name of the kata and the first 3 or 4 moves^^ but hey: i have the 7th Kyu... we only have to repeat it abaout 50.000 times and i will learn it :)

  • believe it or not, this is done the way it is supposed to be done. It's not supposed to be flashy. Shoto Kan is a very punctuated style. not big and open like some of the mainland styles; ju jutsu, aiki jutsu, etc. it's focus is on economy of motion, so the movements are short bursts of energy. i may be wrong, i've only been studying for about 12 years or so, so i have a long way to go. But i talked with Motubu Sensei a few years back and he said this to me so it seems accurate.

  • @beccajen88 You really captured Shotokan with your comments! I've never heard it like that before.

  • Hmm...I do shotokan but my Kanku Dai isn't near as choppy. I am not insulting it! Don't get me wrong, I was just wondering if this was in Japan, or what else could make the difference.

  • @Fulkultur This is about as good as it gets in regard to the traditional Shotokan manner of executing this kata. The karateka performing this kata in the video is Kanazawa Hirokazu who is a 10th degree black belt and to many is a living legend. There are many variations of this kata and those under WUKO rules will perform this to a different rhythm. But this is the short, sharp, economic of movement traditional form.

  • so wonderful

  • Lyoto Machida

  • TaeKwonDo, TangSooDo, Karate. None of it matters all that matters is "The Way" Know the one by the ten thousand.

  • @habluehayaco20nn I'm hoping that you hold at last a few dan ranks if you're going to criticize this kata. Criticizing a 10th degree blackbelt who is also the president of the Shotokan Karate-Do International Federation, it's hard for me to take you seriously. There are slightly different styles of karate, so maybe you're used to seeing a different style. However, Kanazawa is the one who has the authority to CHANGE anything in this kata for the SKIF if he decides to.

  • My boyfriend got involved in an street fight when he was just 15 yrs.old against

6 persons and survived without a single hit in his face while he almost kill those

guys.He was a tang soo do and okinawan karate but he said karate is the most

deadly art and it is not a sport that's why they stop seeking for tournaments.

  • My main style I practice is Shorin Ryu and I needed a more flashier kata than the ones I know for competitions and I knew Shotokan has some really flashy ones so I've watched this video over and over again till I learned the movements to this kata :) ossu. P.S. Shotokan forms almost always score higher in competition than other styles

  • My dojo does it a little different just the 2 and 3 moves are a little faster

  • best kata i know

  • LOOOL..... just got my green belt.. xDD and I tried to join the black belters in our team practicing this kata... I was like,,... *nosebleeds* ^--^... but yeaa!! I SURVIVED~!!! >D

  • Ahh, the most representative shotokan kata of all...

    Beautiful

  • Becuz I do shotokan and I'm a brown be

  • it amuses me the way you people in shotokan can memorise so many katas O.O i mean... they all look so hard and when i see a master performing all of them in such a leve of skill... it really amuses me. greetings from a goju-ryu student :) OSS!!

  • @kyuubifox66 it is hard at first but the more you practice it becomes second nature

  • This is probably the worst example of this beautiful Kata that I have ever seen. Just because you know how to upload vision, doesn't mean that you should. Get back in the dojo and get into UNDERSTANDING the bunkai of what you are doing.

  • @habluehayaco2onn are you serious right now? Are you honestly accusing Kanazawa of not understanding the bunkai? Do you have brain damage or something? Kanazawa trained under Funakoshi. You know, the guy who FREAKING INVENTED THE STYLE? So I'm pretty sure that he probably understands the bunkai of the kata better than anyone else alive right now, possibly excluding Okazaki. And if you want to prove me wrong, you'll have to show me. Upload a video of yourself doing it 'right', or shut up.

  • @UnusualNova Chill out dude. Just because you are impressed with his C.V doesn't make him perfect. He might know everything there is to know about this kata, it just wasn't shown in the vision. He might be the best the world has ever see at this kata, but he just didn't show it in the vision. Insulting me and my intellectual capacity doesn't actually improve his performance in this vision. Who you train under isn't what makes you great, it is what you do. You sound a bit infatuated with him.

  • niggers are not cool someitmes, dont u hate justin bieber?

  • @ballseye666 Do you have any clue who this man is...

He's the only living tenth Dan in shotokan.

He doesn't have to use anymore anything...

  • I'm jn Germany

I started with karate when I was 8 years old

Now I have the 1. Kyu (last belt before black)

    And I love this kata!

  • hi guys, Im Kimberly from the Netherlands. I started with karate when i was six-years old. now i have 3 kyu (brown with one white stripe). I love karate and good luck everybody

  • does this really last that long? :O im just curious. i just got my yellow belt..

  • Try to use your hips a little bit more, you're putting some strength on the shoulders and that can be dangerous...although ;) very good

    OSS!

  • hi .guys i'am abdulhak from Algeria i love karate so much that's the reason that made me know all these katas i have a blue belt .my dream is to get more than a black belt

    good luck every buddy

  • well hey guys my name is abdulhak i am in a karate shotokan school in Algeria .i love that sport so much the last year i passed the blue ceinture exam successfully i love that kata it is the longest kata in karate...

i know all katas so good luck friends

  • My name is Sofía. I am in he school Shotokan. I love Karate and this is my prefer sport. I have got blue belt. When I was six years I started to did karate.

This kata kanku-dai is my prefer kata but it like than kumite.

My best dream is to be black belt.

    Good luck.

  • it annoys me when everyone says its a flying crane technique or a new steven segal kick as soon as i saw it i thought kankudai

  • mmabay.co.uk: When asked about “that kick” (that knocked out Randy couture) Lyoto Machida said: “This kick is from karate, it’s the Kanku Dai...."

  • Lyoto Machida, on April 30th UFC 129 used the jump front kick from this Kata to knock out Randy Cotoure.

  • @Mr23748 I too noticed that during the fight. This is my favourite Shotokan Kata. Cost randy a tooth!

  • He looks like the tallest japanese karate-ka out there

  • @CentredOne No there are taller including his son Kanazawa Nobuaki. But he is considered tall for his generation of Japanese. He's still impressive these days even though he is almost 80 years of age!

  • I love this kata. Studying it now for my nidan grading in 18 months or so. Kanazawa is very impressive in any kata that he does. Brilliant.

  • I noticed that they all do the youtube katas in the same room

  • watch?v=F1-aM5ahjSg BROWN VS YELLOW!!!

  • I'm learning this one right now. It's awesome!

  • I agree 100% I didn't used to agree, but the fact is, there is always someone bigger and stronger than me. That person needs to baited, out-smarted, and destroyed. Standing in front of the guy, and trading punches is just plain stupid, almost as stupid as going into a man-pretzel on concrete, while his friends kick a field goal with your head. Thanks for the response. Osu.

  • Nicely done, perfect!

  • I am a student of Tsutomo Ohshima - look it up. A direct student. This guy's form is horrible, nothing like the Shotokan form taught by Funikoshi. He looks like a student of Nishiyama. Kwanku is a Chinese form - come through Okinawa. Tsutomo is the top authority alive. Ask him if you don't believe me. He's in Santa Barbara, Shotokan Headquarters. Lives there.

  • @JimCaronArtist 'This guy' is hirokazu kanazawa-look it up.

  • @JimCaronArtist Hurr durr I'm a youtuber commenting on videos hurrrrrr

  • @JimCaronArtist

    Whats so bad about Nishiyama?

Thought he was one of the best.

  • @JimCaronArtist

You're a retard. Kanazawa (in this video) is one of the most respected Kata practitioners ever.

  • i'm a karate student with years of punching and kicking routine moving forward and backward (it may looks boring and useless and i treat it as only a sport i loved). recently i'm involved in a street fight, a macho attacked me so fierce! the funny thing is that i'm able to block and struck him back easily! (don't know what he is doing)

i'm not philosophical... scientist may describe it as muscle memory or reflects, there must be reason sensei(s) brought this art to us............ thank you....

  • @TheNeolys the reason you're were able to defend yourself it was simply because you train with your spirit.

That is the most pure training you can get and it will allways protect you and help you to protect others also.

  • @TheNeolys dang idk but ur dojo must be one of a kind because that never happened to me lol

  • @TheNeolys only 11 years old kid can belviie he can use age uke or soto uke on the street...lol L:)

  • @TheNeolys It was your reflexes and reactions to attack. Our training has an effect on the body the same way any other activity has an effect. Trust me, my reflexes, flexibility, punches and kicks all got so much slower when I stopped doing karate for a year.

  • @TheTsugnawmi2010 karate is like water, if kept in a certain temperature it will remain water else will get frozen; same feeling here bro, but still some discipline remains in you, I believe from the deep core of my heart, you'll never become what you was before starting practice. Os and warm regards

  • @TheSomnathchatterjee Yeah. My reflexes are still pretty good (i've been told. I still say they suck)

  • @TheTsugnawmi2010 dear sir, I think I came in between of a live discussion among u and some "they" u mentioned!! as I don't know them I can't help it....... take care bye..

  • @TheSomnathchatterjee "they" was referring to my reflexes

  • @TheTsugnawmi2010 (............). lol....

  • @TheSomnathchatterjee I love that saying! "Be like watah. Watah is smooth, but watah can cwash."

  • oss

  • 70 move this kata

  • All you people talking about fighting are idiots. The main message of any martial art/ street fighting/ ring fighting class is that, ideally, you never have to use the skills you learn. Learning any kind of fighting skill should teach you to avoid violence at all costs. If any of you have been taught, or believe, otherwise then you are a blemish on the face of martial arts.

  • wtf if you can remember that your god

  • @tommyjongen if u practice it for a while it sticks in ur head

  • @MartialValor Wow, you really are an a**face aren't you? haha

  • @GomesuEitoru lol

  • 17 ppl do tae kwan doe

  • @sn299 well you didn't spell tae kwon do right but no i doubt it because they do this kata in it too

  • @sn299 yo bra this is one of my O'sensei's and I do tae kwon do

  • @sn299 It's all the same anyway.

  • @sevensixtwomm You obviously don't know anything about Tae Kwon Do or Shotokan Karate.

  • @PnutButter1986 If you knew anything you'd know that early TKD was basically derived from Shotokan Karate.

  • @sevensixtwomm You're assuming that I didn't know that. Most wines came from a grape but it doesn't mean they taste the same does it.. It is obvious that the arts share histories in the shared moves that they have. But watch a TKD tournament and then watch a Karate tournament. Notice any differences? Glaring ones like TKD guys don't use their hands whereas Karate guys make great use of them

  • @PnutButter1986 Well there you have it again. I guess it depends on which style of Karate or TKD you are watching.

  • @sn299 what is wrong with TKD?

  • @TheMrMeMyselfAndEye lol did i say there was?

  • @sn299 lol

  • Tired of jackasses that "CLAIM" to practice these "RING SPORTS" trying to insinuate that somehow that makes them better fighters than ppl who practice the art aspect of MA. First of all, they don't train full contact all the time! Otherwise they would be in the hospital more than they train. So the claim that they are so hard core is a fallacy. They wear protective gear and pull punches just like everyone else. The only ppl making these bold claims are keyboard warriors and trolls.

  • @osensei2987 I havent been to my kyokushin school since i was 18. I did it for 7 years. and taekwondo for 6. But ive been doing muay thai since i was 9, thats about 12 years, Im 21 now. So i usually call myself a thai boxer if anything. Im a professional and im in Singapore right now. When i was 16 i won the 2006 Canadian amateur kickboxing title, junior, 72Kg division. You my friend are in the dream world. I know what fighting is. You have no clue. Keep doing kata and play pretend fighter.

  • @MartialValor More lies? Are we supposed to be impressed? What next? Ur in Delta Force I presume? What? Ur an "operator" now? ROFLMAO! MT is no big shit dude! Are we supposed to tremble now whenever someone mentions MT? Ur too stupid to get ur lie straight. I guess u "supposedly" gave up Kyokushin because MT was better? Yet Kyokushin Karate is on record as beating the shit out of MT on a consistent basis! LOL! That's right dumbass! Karate kicked MT ass and that's historical record!

  • @osensei2987 Only read the first paragrah. It got too stupid. FEw thing si never left kyokushin i started muay thai when i was 9 i picked up kyokushin at the same time when i was 11. This isnt a karate vs muay thai argument. I love all of the arts i do and did. It's about the uselessness of kata. And just before i go, the record. And ym last comment. Kyokushin was created by a korean man, who traveld ought across the world including thailand. Mas talks about MT thier knees kicks and shins.

  • @MartialValor Shouldn't u be on a secret mission to save a white woman from an evil Talliban warlord right about now? And remember to take Steven Seagal with u!

  • @MartialValor MT has no technique! And if there is no kata in MT (MT kata could very well exist btw. I stand to be corrected.) it is for that reason! Karate, on the other hand, has hundreds of techniques and each technique could have multiple applications. Therefore, kata is needed to enumerate techniques for the student and to put them in some sort of context were by the applications might be studied. Kata is a teaching aid, exercise and art, not combat training! U do other things for that!

  • @osensei2987 Why Do i read this? My god. Muay thai has the simplest techniques that work flawlessly. MT has no kata what so ever and never has. Muay Boran did buts muay thai is a refined perfected version of muay boran. Therefore getting rid of patterns/kata and adding sparring instead. Not poitn shit sparring. Your an idiot Manny Pacuiao is a boxer, if he punches in that stance you cant kick him its illegal in boxing. but let me show you what happens when you do.

  • @MartialValor Perfected? Mauy Thai throws slop at their opponents! Their damned chin is constantly open. Every time they kick the hands come down! ROFLMAO! The problem is that in the rind idiots try to keep their distance from a MT fighter. Sports fighters like to probe at their opponents from long range and work their way in! IMHO it is a tactical error for them to try and fight a MT fighter that way. If a sucker is not prepared to step in the ring w/ good tactics, who's fault is that?

  • @osensei2987 Just for you -> /watch?v=efiR5fcG6_Q Rick is a Champion boxer and high level black belt in shotokan karate. Google him. His gets DEMOLISH with ONLY leg kicks, and he is wayyyy faster with his punches than the average black belt in shotokan. Wheres your zone? Now this /watch?v=EDjE4BywrE4 Now the boxer was allowed the same rules as the muay thai fighter. Same would happen is Manny fought Buakaw. Manny the better puncher, but his stance will mena the end. IM DONE 100% now. LOSER.

  • @MartialValor rick Rufous wiki. -"He lasted longer then the boxer did but at what cost? here: In November 1988, he fought against Changpuek Kiatsongrit. As time goes on, Roufus started running away from Changpuek because of pain. At 4R, Roufus couldn't continue to fight because his legs were damaged heavily as Changpuek kept kicking them, and the referee stopped the bout when he fell down on the canvas. His both legs were broken and he needed time to come back." search it. BROKEN LEGS. FAIL.

  • @MartialValor Only a dumb ass would try to block a shin strike w/ his own shin! LOL! U seem proud of this hard core shit when all that is required is to stop the damned kick in the first place! That's why God created the front kick moron! There's plenty of time to stop a low roundhouse bcuz that shit is telegraphed so badly! Plus any time the low kick comes toward u can rest assured that the dumb ass Tahi Boxers face is wide open! Bcuz they flail their damned arms like a fucking bird! Easy KO!

  • @MartialValor That's what his sorry ass gets for fighting like a bitch! If u don't like receiving the low kick, then take ur ass on the inside and stay! I'll in-fight a MT scrub any day! I have no respect for the MT inside game! Most MMA fighters today cross train in boxing because MT hands suck so bad! LOL! I'll own ur ass on the inside! Sports fighters fight like little fags! Land a combo and run away! LOL! If u fight like that the low kicks will just keep coming! Stupidity!

  • @osensei2987 I skimmed through what you said. Muay thai hands are NEVER down. Muay thai blocks all shin kicks with their shins, unlike shotokan, kyokushin and muay thai actually condition their legs/shins. You talk alot but cant back anything up and last but not least. you dont know anything about muay thai because Muay Thais strength IS their in fighting. *clintch knee, knee, knee dead shotokan fag* You just talked alot and backed up nothing. No shotokan guy ever has backed up anything. Fail.

  • @MartialValor You can do all that crap in the ring! But the ring is not the real world jackass! It's still just a sport at the end of the day! Clinch knee = trapped knee and swept leg! U think knees can't be stopped becuz u get away w/ them in the ring? You'll get picked up and slammed! Face a good pressure fighter that's not afraid to get up in ur grill, then we'll see! All that elbow, kick and knee crap will just get smothered! TACTICS dumbass!

  • @osensei2987 Your nobody. Listen you feel bad you spent years learning to get your ass kicked with 1 leg kick, thats your problem. Stop responding, you've proved nothing and you still look stupid trying. You think muay thai sucks. Good for you. It's funny how everyone hates on muay thai when they CONSTANTLY demolish other arts. Keep doing your kata. People like you deserve to know traditional karate, and only that. Your not worthy of a thai kick.

  • @MartialValor Because MT fighters have ring experience! Most other MA don't fight in rings, so they lack ring strategies. That's why the are easy prey! It's not bcuz the style is bad. As fighters gain more experience in the ring and develop tactics and strategies they will become harder to face. Low kicks take out the chumps that try to stand off and measure their opponent! Those idiots are scared to mix it up! That's why the leg kicks work against that type of moron! LOL!

  • @MartialValor U obviously have no experience fighting! Ur talking about low kicking, breaking ppls legs and kneeing folk as if there is no way to counter that crap! U exhibit total ignorance of the use of distance in a fight. And u obviously have no concept of how timing, strategy and tactics work! U think being "hard core" is the answer to everything in a fight! U have not used any terminology from any of the arts that u supposedly practice! Yet we are suppose to believe ur a "PROFESSIONAL"!

  • @osensei2987 I just want to add to your "hard core" argument. I think "hard core" guys are the easiest ones to beat. Just weather the initial storm (that you know is coming). After that, its like fish in a barrel. Fighting spirit is very important, but not at the cost of being in control of your techniques. As you said distance and timing are key.

  • @njtr Hard technique, trading and relying on your ability to absorb more punishment than ur attacker is ignorant and devoid of strategy. While it is important to be physically and mentally hardened. reliance on hardness puts one's self at risk. Particularly, in a life and death situation. If you get knocked out while trying to be hard, your attacker is free to slit your throat! The best strategies therefore will render maximum punishment to ur attacker while sparing one's self much pain!

  • @MartialValor Last thing. Rick later learned muay thai and fought muay thai fighters like Ernesto Hoost. In 1998 moved to K-1 and continued to learn muay thai and completely abandoned shotokan. Im not against karate. Just the kata. And shotokan is pretty much useless on its own. So im not a fan of shotokan or any other style besides kyokushin. Mas Oyama knew the power of muay thai low kicks. Thats why kyokushin fights they way they do. Have fun getting your legs broken, im out 100% now. FAILURE

  • @MartialValor He should have learned strategy and tactics instead of switching to a sloppy shit style. U keep thinking that someone's gonna stand in front of u in a stance and I keep telling u that it's not gonna happen. Stances are transitional movements that allow u to transfer leverage and power into technique. But the stance is part of a committed attack! Ex: U step into ur opponent and zone to the diagonal. By the time the foot touches down then punch will have landed.

  • @MartialValor Strategy, tactics and distance! That will cancel out that tough man shit every time! LOL! #1 Intercept low kicks with stop-hits like stomp kicks and front kicks to jam the kicking leg. Be ready to sweep the supporting leg. #2 Close the distance and use trapping immobilizing clinching strategies to jam punches and elbows. #3 Cancel out knee attacks by keeping the hips close to ur opponent's hips to prevent head control #4 Keep pulling, pushing and off balancing the sucker!

  • @MartialValor Because this scrub stands at long range and their is nothing between him & his opponent at the low line! U can't stand way out at kicking range & expect not to get kicked. But the good news is the MT fighters telegraph their kicks so fucking badly that any moron can use a stomp kick to jam that shitty roundhouse! LOL! Also, low kicks work both ways! But ur MT friend is just having fun in this video w/ a moron that doesn't know how to control the distance! LOL! MT hands suck ass!

  • @osensei2987 It's no secret kyokushin is barely karate. considering it's fairly new and was mixed with other arts. He Says himself he traveld to thailand and fought a fighter called "Black cobra" And learned a lot from him. i hate the muay Thia vs kyokushin talk. It's stupid. And so are you. And i didnt tlak about my title sor experience to scare you, im just explaining i obviously have more experience then you in all aspects of martial arts. Failure.. Bye now.

  • @MartialValor Ur experience hasn't taught u how to zone when u punch? Ur criticism of stances and ignorance as to how they are used in combat is proof that u don't have more fighting experience than I do! HAHAHAHA! Lie on keyboard warrior! Why don't u know how to zone Mr. Mauy Thai? HUMMMM!?

  • @MartialValor Furthermore, kata is just one aspect of Karate. U would have us believe that Karate training is just doing kata all day? R u that stupid? I guess u never shadow box since u "SUPPOSEDLY" practice MT? But I personally know MT fighters shadow box. So I guess that makes them "pretend fighters" as well. BJJ fighters also practice grappling moves vs imaginary opponents. If u doubt it then see Gracie University online and you'll see! In short, ur just a stupid lying ass troll!

  • @osensei2987 Last but not least. I dont know WTF your talking about shadow boxing for. Because kata is retarded shadow boxing. Every stance in kata can be easily swept (in most cases) Or rendered useless with a low kick. And are imaginary attacks that dont work on resisting opponents. And even though i fight in the ring, it dosent mean ring fighters are retarted and dont know how to fight without gloves. It only make you better and your reflexes much much much sharper. Peace.

  • @MartialValor By the time the fighter lands in a stance the punch has already been landed so ur not gonna sweep shit! Because ur opponent will already have his fist in ur mouth by the time his foot hits the floor dumb ass. I've already told u that u end the technique in a stance, they are not en-guard positions stupid! It's call "Zoning" and if u really did Mauy Thai then you would know what zoning was! More proof of ur lies! See Manny Pacuiao and see how he ends his punches in stances!

  • None of these techniques are ever used in actual fighting. Hence why they are a waste of time.

  • Comment removed

  • @MartialValor I never knew how it was possible for one to be such a dumbass.

  • @RatedPi YEA! I know. How is it possible so many people think this shit works. Your right! Such dumb asses! It's kind of obvious karate sucks since for it to work in mma or kickboxing "REAL contact fighting" they have to throw everything out the window and keep the stance learn muay thai then call it "karate" Your right dumb asses. Your not that stupid right, im sure it isnt bias and your not a karateka. Because i have a black belt in kyokushin and even i know better. right? You know for sure?

  • @MartialValor Black belt my ass! U don't fight from a fixed stance in Karate u moron! The stances are not meant to be en-guard positions! Most Karate fighters will start from a more natural stance! U been watching too much McDojo point fighting BS! The stances are trained this way in the kata because it strengthens the legs and enhances flexibility u idiot! Stances most often occur in fighting at the end of technique, not at the beginning. Boxers do the same shit w/ their footwork jackass!

  • @osensei2987 Didnt read what you said, but when your done playing pretend fighter, try actually doing it.

  • @MartialValor Go back to ur Kyokushin dream world were face punches don't exist and fantasize some more.

  • @MartialValor I don't care if u respond or not! I'm addressing ur ignorant comments for the benefit of others, so they can see how retarded ur assumptions are! ROFL!

  • Comment removed

  • @RatedPi Ignorant more like.lol

  • @MartialValor wow you are the dumbest person ever. This is a traditional kata. It prepares you for the self-defense. The secret of the self-defense lies within the kata. What you see in a fight is wat you learn from the kata.

  • @TopGunGEneral yea "secret" guess no karate fighter knows it then. they all get knocked the fuck out by muay thai every time they fight. boo hoo cry more.

  • @MartialValor Really? U must not have watched very much K-1 or PRIDE. The names Cro Cop, Machida, George Saint Pierre obviously don't mean anything to you either. All these guys have won in MMA and defeated Mauy Thai fighters long before they came to UFC. Now that they're in the UFC the carnage continues. Just face the fact that ur an ignoramus and that you've made prejudicial statements. Honestly, the poster of this video should set the approval feature on and rid us of trolls like u.

  • @MartialValor By the way ...! Since u claim to have a black belt in Kyokushin then u should already know that Kyokushin has the same katas as found in Shotokan and Goju Ryu. So I guess Kyokushin fighters are "dumb asses also for thinking that this shit works" as u put it. Or could it simply be that ur a fucking liar?

  • @TopGunGEneral I politely suggest not speaking to that ignorant troll @MartialValor any more. He already has exposed himself as a damned liar by saying he has a black belt in Kyokushin! And even though Kyokushin has many of the same kata in common w/ Shotokan he bad mouths the kata. Only a damned liar that was ignorant of either style would make such a mistake.

  • @osensei2987 I do have a black belt in kyokushin and 2nd degree in taekwondo. Ive always felt the kata and poomse was a waste of time. In the end its helps with nothing. It has never been proved to help and time and time again i see first hand that it only gets in the way. Im sorry i didnbt read the rest just the first part about kyokushin, you dont know me at all. When your done playing pretend fighter, actually give it a shot its fun. Okay im not responding anymore, becuase your fail.

  • @MartialValor Yeah right! Let's see u take a shuto to ur damned neck, a sidekick to ur grill, a hammer fist to ur temple, a backfist to ur nose, a front kick to ur groin, a stomp kick to ur knee or any of the above. Then let's see if u walk away dumb ass! If u have a black belt in Kyokushin then it only confirms what I've always said about Kyokushin teaching bullshit! To have a black belt as ignorant as u would only validate what I've said about that shit style all along.

  • @MartialValor read your stupid comments is really a waste of time... ignorant.

  • @MartialValor

    Errr Correction they have....I have

  • My sensei started us on jion and kanku dai tonight and I just couldn't get kanku dai, I made a complete bags of it :\

  • I really despise this kata for the simple fact that it's been kicking my ass for the past 5 days lol i"m a green belt being skipped up to a 1st brown and I need to learn Tekki Sho, Bassai-Dai and this BMF right here plus break 5 boards and fight 4 people blind folded

  • @laohung okay now I finally got it down lol even though it took 5 days

  • @laohung your dojo sounds fun.

  • @christiankungfuman it really is lol

  • @laohung the funny thing is that this post there is for one month now and noone comment it...

Are you listening yourself dude?Send me a link of your dojo or even post a video of you doing all this things...The most of the ppl are watching this kind of vids aren't ignorant about shotokan training and I assure you you never break boards or fight 4 people blind folded.Show some respect to ppl that they are taking their art seriously.

  • @EonTheReal well my instructor apparently was psyching me out because our rank test was this past Saturday and I was worried about not passing because of all that I had mentioned. I didn't break 4 boards nor did I fight 4 people blind folded. However I performed Kanku Dai and Bassai Dai then broke two boards - I meant no dis respect and I do take my art seriously indeed - been int the arts for 10 years and I am always open for criticism OSSU

  • ILLUMINATI!

  • MY favourite Kata ... :D

  • @ShowYourWorking Well, when Sensei Okazaki - head of the ISKF and personal assistant to Sensei Funakoshi - personally tells me that Kanku Dai is a blend of all the Heian katas...I think I'll take his word over yours.

  • @skimarcus Correct in a sense, The Heian (pinan) kata were extracted from the original version of the form, Kusanku. Kusanku is an old kata that existed before the heian (Pinan) kata were invented in the modern era.

  • @skimarcus Whoever you namedrop into this discussion, it doesn't alter the facts. ShowYourWorking is right. Kanku Dai in its various forms has been around for a long time, and the Heian or Pinan katas were taken from this kata and other high level katas.

  • @Caeternum Agree totally. To say Kanku/Kusanku is an amalgamation suggests that it's a combination of five kata that came before it. Other way around, Kusanku had existed before, and Anko Itosu drew from its movements to create the 5 Pinan. Same thing with Tekki/Naihanchi and Rohai/Meikyo. They were each one kata, and Itosu broke them up into 3, so they would be easier to learn. Don't know why someone who's as knowledgeable in karate as Okazaki Sensei would claim otherwise.

  • @deek77 pinan isn't shotokan karate <_<

  • @ImYnotplay What is shotokan? Funakoshi never used that term to describe his karate, nor did he use it in his texts; he just called it karate.

Karate is karate, just one big tree with many different branches, my friend. The Heian kata are simply Funakoshi's expression and modification of the Pinan kata taught to him by Anko Itosu. Not better or worse, just different.

My point was that Kusanku came first, then the Pinan/Heian kata, not the other way around.

  • @deek77 Shotokan it's the western term for the style founded by Funakoshi and tachnically modified by his son, Yoshitaka. It's no longer what Funakoshi originally taught, that's why the term is correct when applied to this particular Ryu.

  • @soparamens Well said, and I agree actually. What I was referring to was the argument raised by another post earlier, that the Kanku/Kusanku kata had derived from the Pinan, when historically speaking it's the other way around. That's all I was really saying. But thank you for the clarification.

  • @ImYnotplay pst, its Okinawan. Don't tell anybody ;)

  • @YouthFist76 lol

  • @skimarcus I was told exactly the same by my sensee about kanku dai a mix of heian katas and if you study the moves you can see at least one stance from each kata!!

  • @skimarcus Actually, Kanazawa himself told me that the Heian katas are derived From Kanku-dai, in the days of Funakoshi, this was the One kata you had to learn for a whole year every lesson ! later, the kata was split into the Heian katas and Tekki Shodan i believe also

  • man, i cant wait to learn this!

  • @theindonesian2008 :) meee too

  • I am a blue belt and I know 16 Katas I think if your sensei says that you can learn them then you should go ahead and do it I am the only person in my class that is allowed to learn that high up personly Kanku Dai is my favorite kata of all time

  • @digidragon117 I'm in the same boat as you. I'm an orange belt in my class, but years ago I was a green belt 14 years ago. My Sensei, who was certified while I was gone, had me start from beginning but saw my progress and allowed me to double-grade from white to orange. Now he has me learning 12 kata ( 4 pre-lim kata, 5 Pinan, and 3 mid-level), a privlilege reserved for purple belts. The belt doesn't always signify actual skill and/or learning ability. But it's a means of humility for me.

  • i have this kata for my next belt (2 kyu)....

  • it's not as hard as we can see in this video ,i learned it for a week

  • @xoni1996 Try in just two days lol

  • Knku Dai is not a brown blt kata. Its a black belt kata its an amalgamation of all the Heian katas but also has parts of black belt katas.

  • @CraigyBoy96 well you are right for a lot of dojo but skif does teach it in the brown belt you must know it for 2nd kyu

  • way different from the way my dojo does it. But awesome vid, and this is an incredible example of Kanku Dai.

  • I found this kata quite hard to learn when I first did it, but I guess all it really takes is some real concentration and loads of practice. I've gotta now try and perfect the others- ji'in, jion and enpi! I think enpi is probably the hardest since that requires so much technique, so I won't be picking that one for sure. Haha :s

  • Its easy to say what people shouldn't be doing at a belt but its hard teaching a class of mixed ability. If you stick to the lower katas the higher belts wont learn anything!!!

  • i learned it 1 year ago

  • los que no saben no evaluen---si lo ignoran----no tienen el espiritu de budo--oss

  • just started learning to kata, and its actually pretty fun to do and isn't as hard to memorize as you would think.

  • Its just a memory thing dude, alot of the moves youve already learnt in the Heian katas

  • I am currently working on this kata now, and it has definitely been one of the hardest ones to learn. There are just so many moves compared to the previous kata's. Though in my experience, once you truly learn it, it's rather difficult to forget :)

  • damn.very cool kata.

  • Fab Kata Love It Best One Out Of All The Black Belt Katas I Reckon And Kanku Sho Love The Jump .... Ive Been A 2nd Dan For A While And Just Love Doing These Sort Of Katas
