Just because a bunch of Republicans oppose a bill does not make it good for America... Obamacare was actually better for insurance companies than before.

Hey Cenk, how the hell is government taking over healthcare any different? They're inevitably going to do the same things private insurance companies are accused of doing to save money... It's happened in every single other government healthcare plan in other countries.
Yeah so let's institutionalize healthcare and let beaurocrats decide who is denied coverage... Fantastic. NOT. The right answer is to use government power to regulate private companies, not to let government screw us instead.

I do not know what the public option or the single payer system are. Honest.
All I can see are people cheering for war 9 yearsto slaughter anyone with a brown/olive skin who today, are whining about insufficient wages for rising cost of living. You accuse me of hypocracy for wanting to live and yet I have done nothing to jepordize my life or the lives of others by not having offspring whom I could not afford to cloth and shelter or run a small business into the ground. There's a difference.
We are mainly left with paper pushers. And insurance companies are a good example. They produce nothing. They push paper and skim profit. They produce no tangible product.
knowing Obama he is trying to please everyone cause he wants to be liked by everyone and be bi partisan. I just don't understand why he doesn't see that repukes hate his guts! no matter what he does the republicans will hate him. he needs to just do what he said he was gonna do and not care what repukes think. I bet his approval rating would go sky high if he came out and told repukes to kiss his ass cause hes sick of their time wasting bullshit already!! be tough Obama!!!!!!!!!
We must build a working class (not middle class) socialist movement. Let them call us socialists, then explain socialism is in the best interest of all the working class. If they continue to hold to their fascist beliefs and attack us, then let them reap what they sow.
There is no corporate welfare in this country, sir. There are those who run a profitable business... and those who should have used a condom before plunging themselves into enormous debt.
SIr, I have had cancer. Diagnosed April 28th, 2006. It was testicular. I had surgery followed by chemo therapy. I declared bankruptcy the following year.
That is all the insurance I have ever needed.
You people want free money for everything from a popped zit to a fatal accident when base jumping.
Because of genetics? That is asking for a sympathy call. "I was born defective. give me money."
Guess all those who are blind, deaf, paralyzed, or George Bush should receive a fixed monthly payment for the remainder of their naturals lives because... well, hey, just because....
The whole idea behind insurance is that those who are at higher risk of using insurance pay more. If that wasn't the case...low risk members would seek other choices, and the insurance companies would just have to higher prices to everyone left anyway.
People die in the street from illness, gun shots, snake bites, starvation, murder by chainsaw, you name it.
Tiger Woods makes more money from clothing label endorsments then the whole work force required to produce said products. And those workers live in conditions fit for hogs.
And you should receive extraordinary treatment because...?
There are those who can make wealth and there are those who have multple children, a fleet of family vehicles, a small business that is near bankrupt.
IT turns out good deal for insurance make us all buy something that the private sector profits from? Sounds as bad as making us buy auto insurance but not offering public option which would be more competative and make money for the state!!!
Look, every society has people on the bottom rung. That's not going to change. As it is now, you and I are footing the bill for their care when they go to an emergency room.
If they were treated earlier, it would cost us less.
Or had you rather take the stance, "no money?, die in the street"?
I am lucky I'm a veteran in a city with a great VA hospital. You know how you can tell if a health care program is working?go to a veterans hospital emergency room then go to a city hospital emergency room. What you don't see at the VA is people who are there because of a lack of prescription medicine. Its almost placid.
I do not see how health insurance will prevent illness. You give money to a company, the company covers you in the event of a non-terminal condition. How does this prevent illness? How about a change in life style? Drink water, not coke. Regular physical exertion instead of Monday night football on the couch.
How about leading a completely different life as oppsed to the current one you all have worrying about democrats/republicans.
Really, well those without health insurance ignore early warning signs of illness by not seeking testing and treatment. Instead they WAIT until a curable problem becomes more expense and dangerous, and then seek treatment when they are no longer able to tolerate the symptoms. This causes more serious illness, and higher costs.
The politicians are not being bribed. And the insurance companies are not placing profit over human life. They are, respectively, only doing what comes naturally.
On the other hand, American citizens are making impossible demands in so much as asking for a safety net for the defective human condition. They are expecting monetary reimbursement for every pimple, soar throat, cancerous leison, and blister over the course of a life time.
So, that decisions and actions of insurance companies are natural and the actions and decisions of American citizens are not natural? Aren't they all just pursuing their self interests in the best way they know how? Both are exploiters or leeches from the bottom up and the top down.
Some fuck up their bodies for immediate gratification and some fuck up the economy for short-run profits and we all pay for it. I don't put the economically powerful on a pedestal.
You are right! Howard Dean is going to get this bill killed and i'm happy as a clam about you libs lost the PO and now you dumb asses are going to kill your own bill making my life easier and for that I thank you
Exactly as d00d7 stated. It means they'll just start over again and make a real reform, not your piss ant reform for big business only.
And this time it's not going to be what can we get rid of to please greedy Dems, greedy Republicians, and greedy Big Business top heads. No it's going to be for the people. So go f#$% yourself and you're pathetic dumb selfish miserable life.
Lmao you are a retarded liberal if you think that lol when this bill dies it's game over the democratic party is toast and i'm loving it lol thanks you and Howard Dean just got Sarah Palin elected potus 2012 =)
Reconciliation bitch. It's what should have been done from the start with you're hypocritically gay Republician asses.
And with a dumb ass bitch like her at the wheel you're bound to fail. So I guess thanks goes out to you for picking a candidate who's going to fail in 2012.
Great job, =)
Hey here's my take on a Palin supporter.
"She really just stands for what we believe in, I don't know what that is exactly or what her policies are but we think she's great, Palin 2012, derp"
I agree with this video. even though the healthcare business is not a monopoly, it seems like one. the whole healthcare thing is that you either pay 1000 dollars a month or "screw you" option the insurance companies have. we need a public option to compete with these insurance companies before this becomes the survival of the healthiest.
So after channeling millions (billions?) of dollars through lobbyists, the corporations have gotten congress to shred the bill to the point it is worse than useless.
Now we need to either:
1. Shove a real bill through with reconciliation.
2. Shift focus to Campaign Finance Reform to stop the majority of the bribery.
I've been telling other progressvies about Obama the conciliator for months on HP, but I was being called a rethug in and every other name now look ......
Obama, I know you set a goal to have this done by the end of 2009, but it is better to get this done right en if it gets done later, than to have a messed up bill that will not only keep the status quo, but that will enhance the status quo.
There is no shame in getting this done at a later date. What we want is a good healthcare reform bill and not just "a healthcare bill.
Insurance companies are a for profit business. No money, no profit. If you have money and are concerned about coverage, you pay the fees. On the other hand, the insurance companies shouldn't have to cover someone with a terminal condition or preexisting condition.
The bill is not popular, but its a very good bill if you're an insurance company looking for profits. Overall, I give it a thumbs up.
Sure thing idiot. Now listen to what this "fool" has to say. We all know that private insurance companies are for profit business. Fucking duh!
However, that is the problem. We leave healthcare in this country almost entirely to the market. Now I believe that healthcare is right and not a privilege. I think it is immoral to commoditize access to quality care. I think it is wrong to deny people care because a business thinks it's too costly.
I think it's wrong to place profits over the life and well-being of people.
By the way, I have worked in the healthcare insurance field for years. So this alleged "fool" at least knows what he is talking about. But I don't think that an idiot such as yourself would care to listen. Ans that is what makes you an idiot.
In other words, if this now FUBAR bill is passed, then it will be the same old shit as before, except the insurance companies will become even fatter than before.
I guarantee that if we give the insurance companies that much more power and money, then there is no going back. They will become beyond powerful.
FUCK!!! people just need to get smarter... its because of the general publics sheer lack of knowledge and lack of care to learn and remember anything from the last 6 months that lets polititians and lobbyists screw everyone and flip flop and flat out lie and make fake causes and... its just rediculous... can anyone do anythgin for the right reasons at the top?
shouldn`t somebody somewhere have figured out , with a major in hc systemazation or so, how to adjust such thing and adopt to fit the country and its needs?
This is called Political Jujitsu. For-Profit Health-Insurance has used our political momentum against us.
They knew some form of health care reform would pass, so they are making sure what ever passes is a huge windfall for them.
Not in their wildest dreams could they have imagined passing a bill that says everyone HAS to buy their product no matter what the cost, and if you can't. The government will pay for it.
i agree with you nomnom. Honestly i have ripped on the right wing on opposing health care reform and doing there silly tea party protest and defending the corporations at their own expense, but now its time to rip on the left wing, who think that killing the bill and keeping the same system is better than any reform. Just because their is no public option you dismiss the fact that over 30 MILLION MORE PEOPLE WILL BE COVERED! which is betterno reform or mediocre reform were you can get coverage
30 million more covered... by private insurance though (and subsidized by the government). is the bill also going to leverage the private insurance lower costs somehow? All this current bill is doing is giving the private insurance companies more of the US goverment's budget.
so any bill is better than nothing? I think you are mistaken my friend the only thing left in this bill is a mandate that the American people pay another tax (in its basic form). So they can take this bill and shove it imo
With no Public Option any health care reform is really worthless. I mean you could help patients by digitizing medical records to increase efficiency, but other than that the rest is just helping the insurance companies.
I have been in favor of reform the whole time, but now I just am part of the 85% disapproval rating of congress.
Who cares what's in the Senate bill. Vote for it and get it over with. The thing that matters is what's going to be in the final version of hte bill when it eventually get s voted on.
This is why the Democrats are so WEAK. They can't discipline people in their own party, they can't unite on a lot of things, and when it comes to fighting back against critics, it always comes up weak.
The Obama healthcare bill doesn't even have that much to do with universal care for all. Its simply mandatory insurance to force you buy from CEOS and it wont even cover everyone.
True, the current bill in the senate is a joke. In fact it is a giant step backwards. It is a complete handout to the insurance companies and provides no real benefit to the people. It should die in the senate and they should be ashamed of themselves. I wonder if Obama realises that passing this version of the bill will garauntee his losing a reelection bid by alienating progressives and the more liberal leaning of independants. We will simply stay home next time.
Which is understandable and probably that's what most progressives will say. The downside to that is you're effectively handing the other guys all the power. Damned if you do and damned if you don't.
Don't stay home! Vote 3rd party! That way, at least your vote will *say* something to them. Think of how scared they were of Ross Perot. Now, imagine if a *sane* independent ran!
I think that a good solution is to, if this bill is passed, is to get as many fairly HEALTHY people and families as possible to all drop there medical insurance at the same time in protest and pay the fines. I hope this bill is passed and people revolt in this way. Government can use the fines then to help expand the medicare to all Americans.
Well for all of you who went apeshit over the idea of government health care, congratulations! There's no public option and no medicare buy-in,YOU WON! Now, either way our health care is in the hands of those wonderful insurance companies who have already done such a great job giving us the best health care system in the world! [/sarcasm]
I'm with Howard Dean on this one. The senate has turned this bill into poison. We might as well start storing food because the recession will get way worse if this passes as it is right now.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Howard Dean is Sarah Palin's DICKLESS and BALLESS BITCH and PUSSY! Palin is a SUPERIOR politician and statesman than Dean could ever be. She is also MORE MAN than he is for Dean wears the skirt in his family while his wife wears the pants!
@ecwaufisxtreme isn't Sarah Palin the one who thought Africa was a country? Who didn't know what countries were in the NAFTA? Who couldn't name a single newspaper in the Katie Couric interview? Please don't compare ANYONE to her unless they are utter and complete morons.
"This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing government, they can exercise their constitutional right of amending it, or exercise their revolutionary right to overthrow it." - -- Abraham Lincoln
The democrats .. if they want this .. need to go against their president.
They should kill it and move to reconciliation, pass it with a full and strong public option, and then DARE Obama to veto it. They dont have to listen to him at all, because they hold the Ace Card here, the democratic voters want this .. Obama will have no choice IF he wants a second term but to pass it
This is probably the most embarrassing monologue this guy has ever posted on youtube. I don't think he realizes that the tricks we're seeing in the bills are exactly the type libertarians told you we would see. If you mix the state with big business, the latter uses the former to rape the rest of us. Secondarily, if you want insurance that costs the same for sick, old people eating fast food as it does for health-crazy twenty somethings, start your own insurance company and see if it works out.
@alandtami Of course Obama sold you out - he's just as beholden to corporate interests as Bush was - just a slightly different group of them. Once again, libertarians tried telling you people this over and over again.
Libertarians suck too, the believe in privatizing everything, no different than Republicans, not an alternative at all. I'd rather vote for an independent candidate, Or a real progressive!
Just because a bunch of Republicans oppose a bill does not make it good for America... Obamacare was actually better for insurance companies than before.

All I can see are people cheering for war 9 yearsto slaughter anyone with a brown/olive skin who today, are whining about insufficient wages for rising cost of living. I represent no company what soever.
I do not see how health insurance will prevent illness. You give money to a company, the company covers you in the event of a non-terminal condition. How does this prevent illness? How about a change in life style? Drink water, not coke. Regular physical exertion instead of Monday night football on the couch.
How about leading a completely different life as oppsed to the current one you all have worrying about democrats/republicans.
cpufightclub 2 years ago
Really, well those without health insurance ignore early warning signs of illness by not seeking testing and treatment. Instead they WAIT until a curable problem becomes more expense and dangerous, and then seek treatment when they are no longer able to tolerate the symptoms. This causes more serious illness, and higher costs.
cullen818 2 years ago
"I do not see how health insurance will prevent illness."
Well, then move aside for those who can see it.
Accepted studies show that those with insurance have non-terminal conditions spotted before they become terminal, and cost much less to treat.
"How about leading a completely different life as oppsed to the current one you all have..."
Yes, just shed that nasty diabetic condition you indulge yourself with and you might be accepted for coverage.
Davetech23 2 years ago
I see the situation in a different manner.

I agree with this video. even though the healthcare business is not a monopoly, it seems like one. the whole healthcare thing is that you either pay 1000 dollars a month or "screw you" option the insurance companies have. we need a public option to compete with these insurance companies before this becomes the survival of the healthiest.
youloser432 2 years ago 2

"Insurance companies are a for profit business."
EXxactly! Why is it difficult to realize that less expensive insurance would be realized from a non-profit provider that does not have to
1. make a profit
2. pay millions in pay and bonuses to ceo and directors
3. pay dividends to shareholders
4. channel billions of dollars thru lobbyists to bribe politicians.
Why is that difficult to understand?
Davetech23 2 years ago 3
So after channeling millions (billions?) of dollars through lobbyists, the corporations have gotten congress to shred the bill to the point it is worse than useless.
Now we need to either:
1. Shove a real bill through with reconciliation.
2. Shift focus to Campaign Finance Reform to stop the majority of the bribery.
3. Do both.

There is no shame in getting this done at a later date. What we want is a good healthcare reform bill and not just "a healthcare bill.

Listen up, fool.
Overall, I give it a thumbs up.
cpufightclub 2 years ago
cpufightclub.
Mxyzptlk562 2 years ago 2
I think it's wrong to place profits over the life and well-being of people.
