Macs aren't better at image editing and not necessarily better at video editing — except for hobby users and those who are particularly fond of Final Cut.

The main pro is the ease of use.

I'm fairly sure they aren't. The top notch software (from Adobe) is available on both platforms and runs as stable (or unstable) on both of them.

You're not used to PC, you're used to Windows and that's actually the reason why you find Mac OS confusing as you already pointed out. After some time using OS X I found it easier to use especially on laptops — plus I love having a Unix shell.

It's true for video editing, because of Final Cut. However there's rising concern about Apple's latest moves: No more XServes, the newest Final Cut and probably the Mac Pro might die out.

For DTP, graphic design, illustration etc. it doesn't really matter.

3D animators prefer Windows, because there's more software and (for what I've heard) it usually runs more stable. Furthermore Apple's never been that up-to-date when it comes to 3D.

That false PC/Mac dichotomy is pure Apple marketing newspeak. It also helps to avoid negative connotations: The new iOS feature they call "PC free" for example. You don't need a PC ("or Mac" — they still mention both in the copy text) any more to activate your iDevice which includes Macs, but "Mac free" would sound like Macs were something to avoid.

That's not true. In fact, the dismal sales record of the Mac Pro over the last several years is living proof that the industry isn't Mac-dependent, and probably never has been. Mac and PC do the same thing, but the Mac's peak potential is far less. The industry's main editor of choice is Avid, not Final Cut Pro, as is mistaken for common belief.
