Dirty old town was written in 1949 ,its about salford Manchester, shane mcgowan was born in England in 1957 ,he went to Westminster public school ! Still a top piece of music tho I think !

@GriftingGriff And i think that all the beautiful lyrics by the pogues was written by that drunk and smashed up irishman,yeah he might not be a role model or a good singer,but he is for sure a goddamn poet,and the pogues (and his musicians too) owes everything to him too,because without those fantastic lyrics pogues wouldn't be absolutely nothing.

Saw the band up near Tipperary in the 90s. Shane had a bout of inability to walk. His mates were carrying him. He did get up to sing later in an unstable condition.
