No matter how much Superman represents America. He will never be as iconic or as remembered three hundred years down the line as Peter pan, or any of the classical characters. Why you ask? Because warner bros feels the need to re-invent him. You can't re invent someone who doesn't need re inventing. He needs a constant flow of events to happen in his life. How did he become Superman? how does he die? Things that need to be kept at a constant. Dc reboot= Nay.
@MrDaruis I don't know if I should tell you this, but Superman just renounced his US Citizenship in Action Comics#900.As for his new costume & history surrounding him in this reboot, a lot of people speculated that maybe its because of that Seagal & Schuster case.I don't know if that's the real reason behind it.Could be?Maybe? After all, that is 1 legal way of keeping him in DC.In this reboot, his costume was stated to be a Kryptonian battle armor.
@bagsikdangal I know. I have the comic. A brilliant one by the way because he finally sees that he needs to be MORE than just a American waving superhero. He needs to be the voice of change. The voice of democracy for the whole world. Which is an idea that we (America) had after the second world war. However, maybe we can say Superman is more American now that he now has renounced his citizenship.
@bagsikdangal I agree that continuity is very important for any character. I have always stated that comic book continuity is crap because the writers change with the time. That is one thing that always turns me off about investing my time in getting to know a new version of a character. Superman, sadly, will only ever be a comic book icon...and nothing more.
I recall telling you guys that comic book continuity is a big stinking joke, but i was looked at as someone who did not understand what he was talking about because .... comic book continuity establishes what characters can do and cannot. Wrong! These characters are fictional, and because comic books need to stay with the current.... they constantly change. Pretty soon it will happen to Marvel once they realize they struck gold bringing their movies out of the books.
@MrDaruis Comics continuity is important in debating.Otherwise a lot of people will do low balling.I seem to remember an old Superman cartoon were it took him 5 tackles to bring down a door on an Airplane. Now is that valid in a Vs Debate? And for the record, Marvel already tried changing their characters in that heroes reborn fiasco but decided to bring the characters back to their original status.Sales for heroes reborn were dropping. So they just created the Ultimate Universe to target newbies.
The main thing that these guys miss is that most comic book readers are weird geeky nerds and do not represent our society. That's why the average person doesn't like comics. There are some like Shaquille O'Neal that like comics only for the excitement, action, and adventure. I fall in that category. These over-rated creators are constantly alienating themselves from people like us. People like us didn't like Watchmen, Next Men, Preacher etc. That's why the industry doesn't attract new readers.
DC is following Marvel by saying the hell with continuality. I wouldn't do that. Even though I am not a big DC or Superman fan, I respect both, and read or buy both if they are good books. With that said, there is nothing wrong with Superman's and WonderWoman costume's. There are some costumes in comics that should have never been touched. Superman, Wonder Woman, Star Hawk, the Vision, SpiderMan, Captain America. Changing Hawkman's and Captain Atom's is fine. I would change Thor's.
@CoogieWarrior1964 U did make some points. But I have to inform U that there r reasons for Superman's costume change in the DC Multiverse reboot. One of them keeps strongly appearing in forums over & over is about the Seagal & Schuster case as maybe the reason for the costume change in an attempt for DC to keep him.And some, will U know the rest. Thanks for commenting by the way.
What happens today in comics, there are a lot of writers and creators that do not like the normal idea of superheroes in comics exploring action and adventure. That's why the original idea of superheros fighting the bad guy/villian don't exist anymore. They believe classic art is cartoony. These knucklehead believe that type of stuff is cheesy. Just like the idiot below does not like superheroes wearing spandex. Well guess what, that's what are comics are, but these creators can't accept it.
I don't agree with this type of gimmick. I can't stand today's writers and creators, and this type of crap is the reason why. They claim they are making the characters more acceptable to today's audience. We heard that same crap about Marvel's Ultimate Universe line. Some creators are actually changing the characters to what THEY want them to be based on their personal biases of comics. What those knuckleheads don't understand is that they are still not marketing to the non comic book reader.
no more superhero underwears thank god lol im kinda looking forward with this reboot because i was geting bored with there multiverse as it is now i just hope this time around they can fixs there errors:)

I'm gonna say yay for some of this but nay for the rest.
The Yays: No more of that damn underwear on the outside of their costumes.
Grifter, Supreme, and John Constantine in the DCU.
Cyborg and Batwoman being more major characters
Grifter getting his own series
Justice League Dark. Nuff said there
Swamp Thing

I noticed I made a mistake with the yays, Its Apollo, not Supreme but now for the Nays
Nays:
Several costume changes were unneeded
Is it just me or did they make an Ultimates version of DC and made it the mainstream universe? It almost seems like it to me.
Martian Manhunter joins the authority. I'm not exactly cool with that
Midnighter.......don't like him that much.
There are more but I can't think of them all at the moment

For the record, there are more than just three eras in DC.
I'll be back later to type in the eras.

I really dislike Wonder Woman's new outfit. The only annoying thing missing from her outfit is a sweat jacket tied around her waist.
