  • you did it with a tablet or a cintiq ?

  • @azzurres1 Cintiq!

  • How do you compare photoshop with illustrator?

  • I'm looking for someone who is good at and enjoys inking. I'm mostly into pencil breakdowns. I create comics and I'm looking for someone to colaborate with. Look at my site for some of my samples @ bobottherobot (dot) net

  • Testing my Facebook-Youtube connection!

  • How do you get such smooth lines no matter what setting I put on the brush my strokes come out shaky and the transition from thick to thin is very bad when I try to use pressure sensitivity.

Mouse or pad it doesn't make a difference either.. and I tried 7000x7000 pixels at 500 dpi then reduce image when done.. that only made the lines worse..

  • @Basedeath I'm afraid there is no secrets, just training.

  • NICE

  • Wow, that's really awesome :3

  • what tool is being used

  • @Keanudabeast Brush Tool

  • Great tablet control, I should try working in giant res as well.

  • When i zoom in real close the edges of my lines look all pixely and don't look to smooth. At what print and screen resolution should i work in? Your videos are alot of help by the way! :)

  • @KiickrOcksz Hi buddy, I repplied this questions several times. See above.

  • very cool!

  • How do you get the thick pointy parts? (ie; the hair tips)

  • That is some precise inking!

  • Did you use a tablet for that?

  • how do you ink your lines so O_O perfectly! that pressure sensitivity is unbelievable ive installed my wacom tablet drivers and i use photoshop but ive never got any result like that, EVER! if you could give feedback as to what im doing wrong i would appreciate it so much! great drawing =D

  • do use the amount of pixels in inking and coloring? i meen, do you start a 7000 px canvas and then shrink it ...? cause its a lot of space man

  • Could you read the video´s description?

  • Default hard brush? Wow. Nice.

But, at what resolution did you do this in? I'm using 300, so I guess it's not enough, as none of my lines look as clear as yours, especially so zoomed in.

I use 8px, with 100% hardness, by the way.

  • Resolution is important when you are going to pring, the key is the amount of pixels. I use around 7000x7000 px canvas.

  • default hard brush? D:

    please answer mee :D

  • Yes!

  • are you using your tablet for this ?

  • I´m using a Wacom Cintiq 21 UX.

  • oh..i tried doing something like that with my mouse and failed miserably :P ...need more practice then maybe i'd be able to draw/color something close to that xD

  • Yes, is impossible inking like this with a mouse, even with a traditional tablet is hard.

For the colors it´s different, you can get good quality.

  • hmm...thanks for the advice...i guess i'll try some basic shapes with vectors and then practice coloring...

  • what's the song ?

  • yeah..YEAH what if? rofl

  • that all just brush?. So smooth. I usually lost patience ^^

What's the size of your canvas?

  • Around 7000x7000px

  • O_O wow, no lag? how big is your system? ^^

  • Not too big actually since there is just a couple of layers.

  • What are your brush settings for this? ;o

    The lines are so clean!

    Amazing picture, btw. >:D

  • Thanks :)

    Just default brushes.

  • Ah, that's insane!

Whenever I do that the lines come out a bit fuzzy, and the thinner lines appear grey.

    Anywho, I definitely subscribed.

I look forward to seeing more awesome stuff! :D

  • Disney? mejor Pixar :P

  • what's the difference in the tablet you use? Does it make much difference?

  • I have a Cintiq, it´s not a tablet but a monitor where you can draw directly over the screen.

It´s a big difference when drawing by hand, but not that much for painting, coloring or photo retouching.

  • is there any possible way of getting such smooth lines just using a wacom bamboo fun... i've tried the vector tools but 1) it takes too long and 2) it's also very tiring. I'm trying to ink my pencils, but all the "inked" lines come out too pixelated. I have no idea how you get those smooth lines. I would appreciate the feedback.

  • To ink by hand there is no a good choice, or you use vectors (boring and tiring) or you buy a Wacom Cintiq.

Try using a big canvas, around 5000x5000px and you will notice smooth it become.

  • I have the same problem, using brushes the lines are not so clean. I tried Corel Draw and Illustrator, both corrects the imperfections on the lines, but they both have limited types of brushes. Not sure if this it is required other type of "plug-in" or driver maybe.

  • i feel your pain, my bamboo tablet makes my inking look like i have parkinsons disease

  • @Nouseeker hahaha me too xD

  • @cuzimbilly try with Azdrawing or Paint tool SAI; both programs have a smoothing control, wich help you a lot to achieve a firm, tight stroke. i use those to ink and the results are equal or even better than using Ps.

  • saludso excelente trabajo, que brush utilizas?? opacidad ??? flow ???? dureza ??

  • THAT'S SO FUDGIN AMAZING!

  • does qany one know of any cheap tabs that i could buy that are good?

  • what are the tools ur using ?? i really need to know

  • Wacom Cintiq 21UX and Photoshop.

  • lol i know , but i'm askin what are the tools you are using in PHOTOSHOP

  • Ops, sorry :P

Im using just standard brushes and eraser.

  • Could you tell me what the average size of your images are. in inches or other?

  • Around 6000x6000px.

  • thanks man keep up the good work

  • that is just simply amazing. It's a really cool character design and all that but what amazes me the most is how you manage to get those perfect lines with the brush tool. Oh lord you must have steady hands... O_O

  • Ur A Absolute Genuis!!I Love Ur Work! 5*

BTW How Do You Come Up With These Characters?

  • Thanks a lot buddy :)

Just feed my mind with books, films, other artists work, play games... and lot of practice.

  • what Kinda films you watch :D...i need to watch some to

  • Everything is good whenever its a good film. For practicing the best are any Disney film.

  • Thanks Man Do You Use Wacom Tablet?

  • Yep, I used a Intuos 3 for some years, now I have a Cintiq 21UX, its sweet!!!

  • WOW..i wish i could afford one of those

  • Are these characters in a book you are working on? If so, where is it or how can i get a copy? I like the look...

  • I do this work trough SOSFactory, my personal website portfolio (Google for it, I cant post links).

All work is comissioned work, sorry no book.

  • Awesome... can I ask you a couple questions?

    What resolution you use 72, 150, 300?

    What brush and size?

I tried inking on Illustrator, but it is hard, where do you recommend it easier?

    Thanks again!! :D

  • Sure :)

The resolution itself its not too important at time to ink, just for the final image if you need to print.

The important is the amount of pixels, I use canvas around 7000x7000px.

The brush size varies I really can say.

You should have at least a Wacom tablet, they are good to paint but not to ink though. If you really want draw confortably and fast you need a Wacom Cintiq, 12" is not too expensive.

Another choice is using vector tools.

    :)

  • Adding a question here...

I am trying to figure out a proper way to ink in photoshop (I have always hand-inked), but even with a tablet I can't get it to look so smooth - what are these "vector" tools? I can't seem to find ANY options that make neither pencil or brush look pixelated when I draw.

That, and I have been trying to learn how to use the pen tool with absolutely no success - I don't understand that tool at all.

  • Take a look to my blog SOSNewbie, the last post I have a compilation of tutorials to learn how to ink or draw in Photoshop, in the first one you have a link to a basic tutorial where I explain the use of the pen tool.

    Cheers.

  • Thanks... I have a Wacom Bamboo Fun tablet (can't afford a bigger one), I tried using your settings, but I just can't get smooth lines, I just ended inking on Illustrator.

Still trying to paint with it, but I just can't seem to get the blending shadows you get, I get hard and crisp colors!

  • Just practice mate :)

  • Nice work, I absolutely adore your line-weight!

  • That would be enough wonderful to paint like this, but you paint on the theme, thet ROCKS, with one of my favourite bands on the background... GREAT work and video!

    bom trabalho! (good job!) :}

  • If I only have a mouse and not a Wacom tablet can I still do good work as a mascot designer?

How long does it take to do a mascot design like this? Not the concept, but from the actual inking to coloring to completion stage?

  • Of course you can, the most important tool is your braind and hands though you will spend more time and you will need to use vectors, its not so fun as painting but it works, take a look to my blog sosnewbie (looks like I cant link here).

I spend around 2-3h for the inking and around 4-5 for colors.

    Cheers.

2,4 gb, 1,5gb ram, 40gb hard disk (+ disco duro externo)

    Saludos ;)

  • How do you get your brushes to paint so dark and sharp?

  • Those are default brushes, the key is the resolution, I draw at 5000x5000px.

  • What dpi?

  • Well, its not important since its not about printing. The important is using a big canvas.

  • what size do you ink/colour your images at?

  • The bigger the better, I usually do it up to 7000x7000px.

  • I really love your work dude, especially the colouring. Your an inspiration.

  • Thanks a lot, Im glad you do :)

  • Awsome stuff!!!It looks so easy when you do it. I guess i have to practice alot more. Did you draw this on your wacom?

Offtopic : what is the name of the song playing in background?

  • Thanks a lot buddy :)

Im using a Wacom Cintiq, so I can draw directly over the screen, its a great toy but expensive. Anyway you can always use the vector tools, see video in my gallery.

The song is "What if" from Creed, its in Youtube sound options.

    Cheers!

  • Tnx man!

One more question. Can you tell me on what computer are you working on? Spec and stuff.

    Tnx

  • Sure, I dont have a big machine.

My PC was from 3-4 years ago, Pentium processor 3ghz, 1gb ram, 200gb hard disk, ati x300 graphic card...

but it died an now Im working on another one even older until I buy a good laptop work station), it is:

2,4 gb, 1,5gb ram, 40gb hard disk (+ external hard disk)
