this direct x error occurs only when i play modern warfare 2 on the new maps everithing was updated so that's not the issue and closing all background services was also useless. foolishly i tried it it's the most idiot fix. Ey and i use directx 11 by the way not 9 nooooooooooooooooooooo

@Akandesh It does not shut down the operating system, and will cause no problems whatsoever with your computer with this settings as permanent. Only when you continue to check all boxes, and restart then uncheck and restart etc will any problems actually occur.
@CollateralJacK I didn't know that a GTX 460, Windows 7, 4GB RAM and a Dual Core with 3 Ghz is a shitty PC, thank you for telling me. And I guess you have a Hexa-Core with 4 Ghz, 32GB RAM, Windows 9 and a GTX 790?
@Enduro5678 I'll get a Quad Core with 3,4 Ghz in a few days black edition too, and if you compare a gtx 560 to a gtx 460 or 4GB RAM to 6GB RAM there is not much of a difference. If you say compared to this my system is shit, you don't know anything about PCs

I'm 15 and BE's have a free multiplier which makes it way easier to overclock them
@DieTenkaichiMeister0 sounds about right but black edition means that your able to overclock them. its easier but only black edition processors can take the OC. Oh and you shouldnt judge just cause im 13 and im a bit egoist.
@Enduro5678 It's alright. You can OC any CPU btw, but it's easier with BE's.
Sorry for everything, it's just that I have a decent PC, that can run MW2 without any Problems and setting Specular Map and Normal Map Resolution to High helped me with it.

I had the same problem, i FIXED IT by installing my ATI drivers from the disk that came with the video card..it is a video card driver issue not dx9 etc

there is no exact solution for this problem.. if you wish to continue the game and encounter the error just restart your computer and play again.. to make the chance of commiting error just adjust the games contrast or brightness as you play then if you encounter the error in your first approach in the play.. restart your computer and play in another approach to resist of encountering the error in the play..

it's all about graphic drivers especially in windows vista/7 where ppl think that windows are recognizing drivers itfself. no,u NEED to install drivers aswell as direct x . im running game with x1650 without any problem ,if u were able to run cod4,this game will work on same components aswell.. install correct graphic drivers and direct x and all problems are solved. ty for your help

@omgplayer1 ok as soon as i took out the disk it gave me the same messege and by putting it again it didnt fix it, i had to restart my computer and put the disk in after loggin into steam. (note) you may get a messege saying you did not quit mw2 properly last time u exit, i clicked on "no" but im not really sure if this matters.

When i start any games inc. CoD About every second start a black screen shows up, i can hear the game music and everything but the screen is black, the coputer doesn't react to ctrl+alt+delete so all ic an do is restart or sleep then wake and then i see the error "Directx Has Encountered An Unrecoverable Error"
Make sure you download all available windows updates, service pack 1 etc. I just re-formatted my computer and that was the problem, didnt have the latest service pack on it and it fixed it.

for anyone who has multiplayer error while loading a map, try go into Options>Video>Advanced Video. Change Texture quality from Auto to manual, than change texture resolution from Extra to high. Works 4 me hoping IW would patch this

I played trough the whole game and at the last mission when you fall of the waterfall the game crashes and says direct x has found an unrecorble error help!!

I have a big problem
I have CODMW2 on 3-cd`s.First two cd`s i winrar,as iso file i mount it on DT-Lite,and instalation starts.So i put cd 3,coz it need couple more .sim.sid files from virtual "cd",and :E drive.No matter what i do,it continuously says to me:Please instal DirektX,C++, 2005 Redistributable(etc.)And i have all those.Whats wrong ?

i did all that and nothing happened. i just got windows 7 and had to install cod mw2 again and this didint ever happen to me on vista do you know any other solutions i can use:S plz respond as quick as possible

Check for graphics cards update, try system restore if it was working yesterday, and not today.

Have you got the latest directx? You may have a too new version for your computer, also you did install your graphics card right?

I Got a virus MW2 ran fine before virus so i had to restoe my PC when i did i reinstalled mw2 when ever i start it up i get DirectX has encounted a unrecoverable error i have no Xfire no norton no HP Printers. :[ Help pls

Have you tried re-installing the game? Updating DirectX? If they dont work, you may have a graphics card update

wow, thx it works :):):):) but, now i got another problem.

I have the same error when i try to start the mp and I do not know from what it is because i've played MW2 since it came and before two days this error apeared "Directx Has Encountered An Unrecoverable Error" and got another bug on CoD 4 the same day - when I start a game (multiplayer) everything is black and there are no textures and I can only hear sound but can't see anything. Like I said i've played before so it's not from my hardware.

guys if the help from him didn't work here is my story + solution i have played like 6-7 months cod mw2 and 1 day that directx problem came i thought come on i can't believe this because i was going to have a clan battle. so i searched for like 3 days for a solution but nothing helped and i thought maybe i have an update so i looked and i had a g-force update i updated it and booom i could finaly play my game. i hope i helped you!!!

it's all about graphic drivers especially in windows vista/7 where ppl think that windows are recognizing drivers itfself. no,u NEED to install drivers aswell as direct x . im running game with x1650 without any problem ,if u were able to run cod4,this game will work on same components aswell.. install correct graphic drivers and direct x and all problems are solved. ty for your help

i also have that eroor.. but i played MW2 for about 6 months with no problem.. and suddenly one day.. i get this eroor.. i had always played with the same graphic setting..after that.. i have the system requiremtns.. and still.. after that.. i restored my pc.. thi is the only way to get direct x to work again.. and it didnt.. same erorr.. i dont know what to do.. plzzzzzzzzzzz help.. and btw.. i tried the method in this video.. and didnt work either..

I have a problem too..when I start the game, all the letters are squares..I can't read anything..is there some way to fix this? the game runs smoothly though..only the letters are jammed-up..

My game freezes and starts blinking randomly, before giving the error message. This is happening mostly on MW2, but it also happens on my other games where is blinks randomly but no error message. Can you help me?

I just had this problem and fixed it by updating my graphics card drivers and then inserting my mw2 disk in and starting the game, try it might work

@omgplayer1 ok as soon as i took out the disk it gave me the same messege and by putting it again it didnt fix it, i had to restart my computer and put the disk in after loggin into steam. (note) you may get a messege saying you did not quit mw2 properly last time u exit, i clicked on "no" but im not really sure if this matters.
Good luck and hope u get ur mw2 working, since a lot of people have had sooo many problems with it!!

A few people told me about that error. It can be fixed by reinstalling the game fully, and if it still doesn't work, lower your graphics.

i have a direct x problem too every other game during the map loading my codmw2 crashes and says the directx encountered unrecoverable error. i have a nvidia geforce 9600gt i do have alot of other games on my cp like cod4 cod waw they are all on full graphics and so is my mw2. is this the reaosn for it that my mw2 is on full graphics??? help plz

Hi, i have a different problem,
When i start any games inc. CoD About every second start a black screen shows up, i can hear the game music and everything but the screen is black, the coputer doesn't react to ctrl+alt+delete so all ic an do is restart or sleep then wake and then i see the error "Directx Has Encountered An Unrecoverable Error"

My graphic card is : G-Force 8500GT it's not grat but with 3gbs of ram and phenom 9550mhz it should be ok.
Id you mean the drivers then i've got the latest drivers from nvidia.

I answer myself now.
The graphic tarjet was having problems with the temperature so i clean it up and seems like ok... for now.
So was not a software issue, was a hardware problem.

Check there are no problems. If there are no problems, and it still doesnt work let me know.

Make sure you download all available windows updates, service pack 1 etc. I just re-formatted my computer and that was the problem, didnt have the latest service pack on it and it fixed it.

for anyone who has multiplayer error while loading a map, try go into Options>Video>Advanced Video. Change Texture quality from Auto to manual, than change texture resolution from Extra to high. Works 4 me hoping IW would patch this

freacking hell I reinstalle my windows and the game worked:D this game is great!!:D but then I decided to get the newest nvidia driver and after I installed it the game give me the direct x error and I realised that the newest drivers fuks up my games... I installed an older one and it worked again :D so if anyone still has this error try installing an older driver
